POPSOrwell's Children Too many of us... have become just like the denizens of Jonestown: Orwell's children -- enraged into constant militancy against eternal enemies, oblivious to the notion of a Blessed Creator, melded into the consciousness of the party hive, divorced from history, hypnotized by images, inoculated against reason, stripped of family, and existing only to serve the cause. There were specific elements necessary for nations with a heritage of freedom to slide intoabject slavery..... What are the characteristics of the Orwellian state? 1. Start with God. He must go. 2. Truth must go too. 3. Language must be brought to heel. Marxism foisted upon us words like "capitalism," which means nothing at all but which has so infected our minds that we reflexively use this silly nonsense word instead of freedom. Politically correct language is rampant. Image and symbols replace words.

POPSAsking ‘Why Do Species Go Extinct?’
A. In 1978, I went to Hawaii, supposedly a tropical paradise. I am an enthusiastic birder, and I looked forward to getting into the lush forest to view the abundant flora and fauna the islands were famous for. Here you had this rich island chain, out in the midst of the Pacific, full of wondrous birds and plants — a place supposedly richer in natural diversity than even the Galápagos. I had brought with me field guides to the fauna and flora, all published in the early 1970s. Yet once in the Hawaiian forest, I had a shock: my books were listing species that were extinct — or about to become so. I was in the forest six days a week and I kept thinking, “If I give it enough time, I’ll certainly see most of the species still left.” But I saw very little. In fact, in Hawaii today, I’d say there are only about 10 remaining native land bird species, with another 10 clinging to survival. So suddenly this extinction business seemed very real. Whenever you’d meet biologists over coffee, th

POPSThirty years of warmer temperatures go poof For nearly 30 years, Professor Christy has been in charge of NASA's eight weather satellites that take more than 300,000 temperature readings daily around the globe. In a paper co-written with Dr. Douglass, he concludes that while manmade emissions may be having a slight impact, "variations in global temperatures since 1978 ... cannot be attributed to carbon dioxide." Moreover, while the chart below was not produced by Douglass and Christy, it was produced using their data and it clearly shows that in the past four years -- the period corresponding to reduced solar activity -- all of the rise in global temperatures since 1979 has disappeared.

POPSOn the terror war quagmire-a Pakistani view Terrorism is the sword of extremism, whether it is religious, ethnic or regional. Islamic fundamentalism in its present form was nurtured by the absence of democratic rule in the Muslim world; the short-sighted and exploitative terms of engagement employed by the western powers to deal with Muslim majority countries, which included support to dictatorships, monarchies and oppressive rules; economic injustice meted out to the majority of the population in collaboration with comprador local elite and western corporations; and finally the issue of Palestine and the sentiment it broods across the Muslim world.
