Orwell's Children
willhelm
by willhelm  11-16-2008    1
Too many of us... have become just like the denizens of Jonestown: Orwell's children -- enraged into constant militancy against eternal enemies, oblivious to the notion of a Blessed Creator, melded into the consciousness of the party hive, divorced from history, hypnotized by images, inoculated against reason, stripped of family, and existing only to serve the cause. There were specific elements necessary for nations with a heritage of freedom to slide intoabject slavery..... What are the characteristics of the Orwellian state? 1. Start with God. He must go. 2. Truth must go too. 3. Language must be brought to heel. Marxism foisted upon us words like "capitalism," which means nothing at all but which has so infected our minds that we reflexively use this silly nonsense word instead of freedom. Politically correct language is rampant. Image and symbols replace words.

ICED EARTH
JCPTEXAS
by JCPTEXAS  11-15-2008
Iced Earth is an American heavy metal band that combines influences from thrash metal, power metal, NWOBHM with gothic touches, and claims to be one of the few modern bands still producing 'true heavy metal' and refusing to accede to trends. The central figure of Iced Earth is rhythm guitarist and songwriter Jon Schaffer, who formed Purgatory in Indiana in 1984. After moving to Florida and changing their name to Iced Earth, the group's Enter the Realm demo was popular enough that they released an eponymous debut LP with Century Media Records. Since then the band has gone through numerous lineup changes, thanks in part to the authoritarian rule of Schaffer. Vocalist Matt Barlow joined the band (after a three-year band hiatus following Night of the Stormrider) for Burnt Offerings, largely based on Dante's Inferno. Barlow's vocals proved extremely popular and he remained with the band for many years, eventually parting amicably with the band in June 2003 to pursue a career with the U

Leave Our Sex Alone
debbyski
by debbyski  11-6-2008    7
"These treasures are so personal, so exclusively private and our own, and at the same time so irrelevant to the lives of others, that, really, the pleasures of our own flesh are the most natural and innocent of all pleasures human beings pursue. Enjoyment our own bodies and those of other people in consensual harmony takes resources away from no starving people; it exploits no one, nor defrauds them of their labor. It humiliates no one and costs nothing. It is so purely human, innocent and wonderful that it is no wonder that organized humanity has gotten jealous of our ownership of it, and so eager to drag it kicking and screaming into the public eye, where it can be "defined" and dirtied, lied about, battered in filth and deep-fried in faith to create this new, needlessly unhealthy monstrosity."

Teaching Every Student in the Digital Age: Universal Design for Learning
akipta
by akipta  11-3-2008
This book is the result of 15 years of thought, research, and development conducted by the Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST) and a number of collaborating individuals, schools, districts, and states. CAST was founded in 1984 with a mission to develop and apply technologies that would expand learning opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Our premise was clear: Students with disabilities should be equipped with particular technologies-new tools and approaches-that would help them access a print-based curriculum.

US like developing nations in income inequality
masbury

USA more like Sri Lanka, Mali, and Russia in income inequality than it is like Sweden, Switzerland, or the UK. We're turning into a developing nation with huge differences between the very rich and the rest of us.

akipta
by akipta  10-26-2008
If I were a curriculum person in an administration, the first thing I would do would be to set up accounts for each teacher to post one daily update. It would give me insight on my school and encourage my teachers to keep a running record of what was accomplished (as opposed to the lesson plan, which usually is not accomplished).

The geometry of the Dupli.Casa is based on the footprint of the house that previously was located on the site, originally built in 1984 and with many extensions and modifications since then. The new building echoes the „family archeology“ by duplication and rotation.

Rachel Maddow on Palin Lies
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  10-14-2008    1
How refreshing to hear someone tell the truth! This clip is a comment made yesterday (10/13/08) by Rachel Maddow concerning the ruling passed down on the Troopergate issue. 1984 is now. Maddow is erudite, quick witted, and knowledgeable. Later in the show she responds to David Frum of hte National Review. The video is there but Clipmarks doesn't support it so you'll have to go to the post to see it. Well worth the detour.
