German equivalent of Mi5 & the FBI puts Scientology in the same category as Islamic extremists
cultwatch
by cultwatch  11-13-2008
tl;dr Scientology is very fucking dangerous. And creepy. And scary. Why can't the police just handle Scientology? It's because the cult are known for courting corrupt police officers and public officials. (google 'Kevin Hurley + Scientology' to see how they've been giving gifts to a certain London police chief superintendent) (click on the link next to the paperclip to go straight to the German site. It's in English)

One Company's Toxic Agenda or Our Poisonous Way of Life? Marie-Monique Robin's "The World According
brightlight4
by brightlight4  11-12-2008
Both text and film are extraordinary models of investigative reporting, each comprising chilling and compelling indictments of a company with a long history of producing varieties of poison. I have no doubt that had a human individual, rather than a multinational corporation, been responsible for the death, suffering and destruction Marie-Monique Robin documents, the International Criminal Court and other jurisdictions around the world would be clamoring for that person's head. Yet, Monsanto continues to operate so much more freely than the disguised Radovan Karadzic. Only last week The Independent reported that Gordon Brown and other European leaders are secretly planning to promote GMO food - 90 percent of which is produced by Monsanto - over the objections of their own populations. Both Ms. Robin's film and her book use a montage of Monsanto advertising, promotional films, claims and pledges to illustrate the fantasy chemical, then biotech/life sciences company it purports t

Who Would Be A Good Pick For AG? How About That Woman. . . . .

who erected the "wall" between the CIA & FBI? uh, NO!!! pointing to her experiences at both Fannie Mae and the Sept. 11 commission." To that, my response is to jump up and down with both hands waving frantically as I shout, "Damned right we are! Damned right!" Short of appointing an actual member of al Qaeda, I cannot imagine a more offensive symbolic repudiation of the Global War on Terror — nor a more enthusiastic embrace of the chronic mismanagement, cronyism, and graft which led to this fall's credit crisis — than the appointment of Jamie Gorelick as attorney general. When Obama choose an amoral, souless Hard Left hitman like Rahm Emanuel to be his chief of staff, I was willing to grant that such is his right for such a position, and I didn't even grumble. Indeed, because Emanuel is likely to be effective in doing his principal's wishes, that simply means that Barack Obama himself can be held strictly accountable for his administration's successes and fai

Sudan welcomes Obama expresses hope for change
tommy2balmy
by tommy2balmy  11-7-2008
"We would hope that the slogan of president Obama – ‘change’ - would be reflected in the foreign policy in the United States, especially towards Sudan and oppressed countries, the Palestinians, the Iraqis and the Somalis, said foreign ministry spokesperson Ali al-Sadiq. He called the elected president to engage dialogue with the Sudanese government in order to normalise bilateral relations. "We want to exchange interests and to work together, "Sadiq said.

Nicholas Burns: We Should Talk to Our Enemies
arifsali
by arifsali  10-27-2008
Nicholas Burns started his career as a foreign service officer in 1983. He served in Cairo and Jerusalem, before working in the State Department’s Department of Soviet Affairs. Then in 1990 he shifted onto the National Security Council staff. In 1995 he became Acting Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, and in 1997 he was appointed Ambassador to Greece. In 2001, the George W. Bush administration made him the United States’ Permanent Representative to NATO, and then in 2005 they made him Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs — the number three job in the State Department. This career diplomatic, widely respected and widely experienced, trusted with key missions by the Bush administration, has an article in Newsweek about how yes we should engage in direct, high-level talks with “bad guy” regimes:

Earthjustice Joins in Fight to Stem Mining Pollution in Mongolia

(cont.)Moreover, the situation is likely to grow worse. The opening-up to foreign investment in 1997 -- and the discovery of some of the world's largest deposits of coal, uranium, copper, and gold -- has led to an explosion in the mining sector. Thousands of exploration licenses have been issued to foreign mining companies from China, Russia, the United States, Canada, and elsewhere eager to exploit these vast resources.

"Lotus Feet"
