POPSMy website This site is made, from scratch, by me. Everything in it and everything made, I did it. I took 2 free online courses. The first was writing your own code in Notepad and the 2nd was designing your own site and placing things where you wanted. I am very proud of myself for what I have accomplished. A lot of hours (and swearing lol) went into making it. I only wish I could remember how to do it all now as I made it back in 2003, and my life has changed a heck of a lot since then.

The highly charged rhetoric used by McCain and Palin to tie Obama to terrorism and Islam is once again an affront to all Muslim Americans. We saw this type of fear and backlash just after 9/11. We see it also in the McCarthy-like invocations of Michele Bachmann. I challenge Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin to tell this grieving mother that her son is anti-American because of his faith.

POPSYelapa Paradise lost and found Already thinking about the next break? Well, Jalisco way, wintertime is the best time to vacation. This little village, YELAPA, nestled in the Bay of Banderas on Mexico's west coast is a treasure waiting rediscovery. I had the good fortune finding this gem by chance. After one week was ready to pack up and relocate. This is not a place for those seeking creature conforts (they can also be found) rather, this is where you go to be a part of the community or just to RELAX. Electricity only arrived a couple of years ago, no automobiles to be found. All transportation is by foot, horse, mule or boat. No street lights, no streets. Flashlights needed. This is where you go to contemplate the possibilities, to reevaluate, to find that inner child and let her/him go free. The locals are warm, friendly, open, reseptive to ALL only asking that you in turn respect and enjoy this haven. Isabel is a remarkable woman and reason alone to visit Yelapa.

POPSGuns: This Is Why I live in Texas, a big gun-loving state. Just a few days ago when discussing the recent Supreme Court decision, I missed my opportunity to get on my soapbox when someone baited me by asking, "What, you wouldn't allow me to protect myself?" This is why, dumby: You are far more likely to blow yourself away than to protect your precious dvd collection. When people talk about guns, the words they use include "rights, freedom, American, 2nd amendment, protection, safety, etc." But somehow suicide and accidental gun injuries and death never rise to become part of that conversation. For the life of me I don't know why. Is it that we are confronted daily with images in the media of heroic gunfights between the bad guys vs. the good guys? But what about the good guy vs. himself? Or the bad guy grabbing the good guy's gun and using it against him? Or the good guy's young child accidentally shooting her foot off? Why do we never talk about these things?

POPS USS Georgia Ready For Return Georgia is scheduled for their first deployment in July 2009. The Georgia crew has been back in port for a week working the plethora of details that it takes to pull off a successful ceremony of this scale. Working the detailed life on board a submarine at sea makes the crew familiar with this type of up-tempo. There are a number of submarines that are named for a state and could potentially be stationed in their home state – Texas, Hawaii, Virginia, Connecticut and North Carolina. The fact that Georgia is currently the only one that is stationed in its home state isn't lost on McIlvaine. Following the return-to-service ceremony, the boat and its crew continue with their busy timetable. The boat has scheduled May 3, as the official date for their crew split to Blue and Gold, in conjunction with an exchange of command ceremony.
