Debate revealed Elitism and Bigotry
spirithiker
by spirithiker  9-27-2008    5
Did anyone else notice that McCain refused to look at Obama? How about the patronizing way in which McCain often responded to Obama's remarks with his smirks and condescension? McCain consistently displayed a typical elitist trait to speak to a third party as though the second party (Obama) wasn't in the room despite the moderator (Jim Lehrer) to entice the candidates to speak to each other. This is a tactic that told Obama he wasn't worthy of speaking to. Can this also be interpreted as bigotry? I'm sure Obama recognized it as such. John McCain disclosed a lot more of himself than I think he wanted to. This is not presidential material.

Healing Wounds Inflicted by the medical system
Maureen Farrell
by Maureen Farrell  9-11-2008
Dr. Pauline Chen's new column debuted today on the NYT online edition. Judging from the first one, it looks like it will be worth keeping an eye on. Her aim -- to lessen some of the distrust between doctors and patients - is a worthy one, and the written word may be a good start.

John McCain needs to spend a little more time talking about John McCain. Make a case or shut up.

McCain Can't Answer Whether He'd Roll Back Women's Rights

Well, McCain is probably a little sexiest (checkout the second tube), but I agree with him that Obama can and should conduct a respectful campaign (and that those allegations are going a little too far).

Chris Hedges: (I) Don't Believe (in) Atheists
Johanna_G
by Johanna_G  3-22-2008    6
The bestselling author of The New Fascists speaks out against religious and secular fundamentalism as he explores the New Atheists: those who attack religion to advance the worst of global capitalism, intolerance and imperial projects. Hedges claims that those who have placed blind faith in the morally neutral disciplines of reason and science create idols in their own image — a sin for either side of the spectrum. He makes an impassioned, intelligent case against religious and secular fundamentalism, which seeks to divide the world into those worthy of moral and intellectual consideration and those who should be condemned, silenced and eradicated. Hedges shatters the new atheists' assault against religion in America, and in doing so, makes way for new, moderate voices to join the debate. This is a book that must be read to understand the state of the battle about faith. ISBN: 9781416567950 Author: Hedges, Chris Publisher: Free Press

Radical Life Extension and Religious Evolution

"Technology will inject competition into religion and force religious authorities to clarify what they mean by immortality." This is important, according to Cole-Turner because "there is currently a lot of evasiveness about what immortality means."

Sworn fact: I did not change anything on this entry. All hilarity and editing aside, I consider Coulter not worthy of true debate, as she is a rabid (single) dominatrix. Commenting on her marital status, I am quoted (here, now) as saying, "I wonder why."
