The Concept of Race
zizzy
by zizzy  11-3-2008
I want to be clear from the beginning, we do know of any gene, no one has ever found a gene, I'm not saying they don't exist, but in all the searching, no one ever has found a gene in which one so-called race has 100% of one form of the gene and some other race has 100% of another form of the gene. There are no single genes that differentiate Africans from Asians, Asians from Europeans, Europeans from Australian Aborigines and so on.

Circumcision - cutting the competition
dakotayii
by dakotayii  6-24-2008    10
Some forms of genital mutilation have obvious effects on fertility. For instance, several African and Micronesian societies practice testicular ablation—the crushing or cutting off of one testicle. Some Australian aborigines engage in subincision, which exposes part of the urethra and thus causes sperm to leak out of the base of the penis. Circumcision does not have quite such clear-cut effects. But there are several ways it may affect fertility: most obviously, the lack of a foreskin could make insertion, ejaculation or both take longer. Perhaps long enough that an illicit quickie will not always reach fruition. Older men are in a position to form alliances with younger men—passing on knowledge, lending them political support and giving them access to weapons. By insisting that the young undergo genital mutilation of some form as a quid pro quo, an older married man can seek to ensure that even if he is cuckolded, he will still be the father of his wives’ children.

Uri Avnery: Apologizing for past wrongs as a part of modern political culture
Rasmus
by Rasmus  6-16-2008    1
I BELIEVE that peace between us and the Palestinian people - a real peace, based on real conciliation - starts with an apology. In my mind's eye I see the President of the State or the Prime Minister addressing a special extraordinary session of the Knesset and making a historic speech on the following lines: MADAM SPEAKER, Honorable Knesset, On behalf of the State of Israel and all its citizens, I address today the sons and daughters of the Palestinian people, wherever they are. We recognize the fact that we have committed against you a historic injustice, and we humbly ask your forgiveness. Uri Avnery Deutsch: Frieden in Israel und Palestina - Texte von Uri Avnery

Abid Mustafa: "The West to the World: Accept Our Values or Die"
Rasmus
by Rasmus  2-21-2008
The West armed with its secular doctrine and materialistic world-view proceeded to exploit, plunder and colonize vast populations in order to control resources and maximize wealth. In pursuit of these newfound riches the West succeeded in destroying civilizations such as the Incas, American Indians, Aztecs, and Aborigines. Those who survived colonization were forcibly converted to Christianity, stripped of their heritage and sold into bondage to western companies. For the indigenous people of Africa, India, Asia, the Middle East and others, the promises of freedom quickly evaporated and were replaced by colonial rule. Resistance offered by the natives towards their colonial masters was met by brute force . When the West was not destroying the natives they were too busy annihilating each other in a desperate bid to cling on to their precious colonies. World Wars I and II are prime examples of the destructive nature of western values.

Equivalent to the Pope building a Protestant church in Vatican City, or to Bush saying he was wrong to invade Iraq. The symbolism is momentous. On a par with Australian PM Rudd's recent offer of a long overdue apology to the Aborigines, but most welcomed by right thinking persons. The Orange Order did not have a distinguished history in Ireland. If we can do it why not ...

Apology will foster victim mentality: Opposition
tabsey
by tabsey  1-29-2008
The only better things Labour has to do with it's time is to clean up the mess left behind by the arrogant, the white supremacists and the "couldn't make it in the real world, so I took up politics" Liberals. Another example of the hypocrisy that we have worn for the last 10 years. The most positive thing about the election was the number of Liberals who lost seats because they didn't see themselves as answerable to their electorates.

Australians cook up wild cat stew
Amergin
by Amergin  9-4-2007    3
But it was a recipe for feline casserole that impressed some of the judges at an outback food competition in Alice Springs. Preparing this unusual stew seems simple enough. The meat should be diced and fried until it is brown. Then lemon grass is to be added along with salt and pepper and three cups of quandong, which is a sweet desert fruit. It is recommended that the dish be left to simmer for five hours before being garnished with bush plums and mistletoe berries. Marinated moggie was not to everyone's taste. One of the competition judges found the meat impossibly tough and had to politely excuse herself and spit it out in a backroom. Wild cats are considered good eating by some Aborigines, who roast the animals on an open fire. This outback cuisine does come with a health warning. Scientists have said that those eating wild cats could be exposed to harmful bacteria and toxins.
