POPS‘Hook’ Imam Denied Extradition Appeal: To Stand Trial In U.S. They also say he assisted extremists who kidnapped 16 foreign tourists in Yemen in 1998. Three British tourists and one Australian visitor were killed in a shootout between Yemeni security forces and the captors. Al-Masri also is accused of facilitating terrorist training in Afghanistan. The former imam at London’s Finsbury Park Mosque, al-Masri is one of Britain’s best-known Islamist radicals. The Egyptian-born preacher is blind in one eye and has hooks in place of the hands he says he lost fighting Soviet troops in Afghanistan in the 1980s. Under his leadership the Finsbury Park mosque became a magnet for extremists. Its worshippers included Sept. 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui and “shoe bomber” Richard Reid.

POPSAl-Qaeda Iraq leader 'arrested' This is wait-and-see since he was said to have been killed last year, I think. The word "detained" is troubling, indicating that there might be a chance for his release; but maybe the BBC was being polite & diplomatic. He had a $5m bounty on his head. Even if he has been captured an amazing *escape* is always possible.

POPSUPDATE: Al Qaeda in Iraq: al-Masri Captured: US Military Yet To Comment "The police raided this house and arrested him. During the primary investigation, he confessed that he is Abu Hamza Al-Muhajir, the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq. Now a broader investigation of him is being conducted," he said to Iraqiya. If confirmed, the arrest would represent a major blow to Al Qaeda in Iraq, which has been on the run for the past year following a shift in alliances by Sunni tribesmen in western Anbar province, and elsewhere, and an influx of thousands of U.S. troops. "The commander of Ninevah military operations informed me that Iraqi troops captured Abu Hamza al-Muhajir the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq," al-Askari told The Associated Press by telephone. He did not have any further details nor did he say when the Al Qaeda leader was arrested. According to unconfirmed reports he was caught Thursday evening in the Tayran area in central Mosul, 225 miles northwest of Baghdad.

POPSOrder To Extradite Accused Terrorist Abu Hamza al-Masri To U.S. Signed The former preacher at London's Finsbury Park Mosque was arrested on the US charges in May 2004, but subsequently was tried for incitement to murder at the Old Bailey and jailed for seven years. His leave to appeal to the House of Lords was turned down last year and the "fast track" extradition hearings re-opened at Westminster Magistrates Court. If Hamza appeals Jacqui Smith's decision to extradite him, he may not set foot in America until this time next year, legal experts said. Mark Spragg, the solicitor at London firm Jeffrey Russell Green, warned that the extradition of Hamza is likely to be a long and arduous process taking anything up a year.

POPSNo "Increase in Anti-Semitic Violence in Britain" US Dept of State Who did you trust U.S. Department of State or Foxcrap? These OFFICIAL figures are fractions of the attacks on Muslims in the UK. The misnomer anti-Semitism figures were 18 persons charged and 8 convicted!!! Get a grip. There is no comparison in the public perception of Jews as against Arabs, the true Semites, in Britain!!! In whose interest is it to talk up virtually none existent figures to give the mainly tolerant Brits a bad reputation??? Not England's! Not Arabs! Who??? Pseudo victims?
