POPSNano Superbug-Killers -Identifies Bacteria That Have Become Resistant to Antibiotics The drugs to be tested work by latching onto the bacteria and literally ripping its cell wall to pieces, exposing the vulnerable core to destruction by the surrounding environment. When a drug can latch onto the mucopeptide, it bends the cantilever and alters the reflection of the laser. The response to the drug can be observed almost instantly. While this technique only works for surface-latching antibiotics (by no means the only antibiotic mechanism), Professor McKendry and colleagues are already planning an upgrade where entire bacterial cells will be pinned to the nano-lever and stretched by drugs.

POPSLongest Serving Monach-In-Waiting Turns 60 There were media reports of an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, now Charles' second wife. And then the tragic death of Diana in a car accident in Paris. Now, at 60, he seems happily remarried and is clearly proud of his two grown sons, both popular royals in their own right. During six decades he has carved a niche as one of Britain's leading charity patrons, raising around $150 million a year for 20 charities. "People do pay attention," said Fitzwilliams. "There are jokes about his talking to plants, but he has earned the right to be taken seriously." Prince Charles, asked in a recent BBC interview how he defined his role as prince, said, "I didn't. I made it as I went along as you have probably seen."

POPS Does Time really Slow Down in a Crisis? Eagleman added this illusion "is related to the phenomenon that time seems to speed up as you grow older. When you're a child, you lay down rich memories for all your experiences; when you're older, you've seen it all before and lay down fewer memories. Therefore, when a child looks back at the end of a summer, it seems to have lasted forever; adults think it zoomed by." And though the results of this study can lead towards disorders linked with timing, such as schizophrenia, Eagleman believes "it's really about understanding the virtual reality machinery that we're trapped in,"Our brain constructs this reality for us that, if we look closely, we can find all these strange illusions in. The fact that we're now seeing this with how we perceive time is new."

POPSSuspicious: Mexican Minister Killed in Plane Crash Could be a hit job, for he was also a rising political figure, and had many other officials on the plane, including former asst. Attorney General (read Prosecutor). Has alot of the marks of a political targeting (Mexican mafia cartels), not just an accident. It crashed into the financial district too. Someone was "sending a strong message" perhaps, that "accidents can happen" to those who mess with the drug cartels. Video by BBC at link. Who wants to be the next Interior Minister in Mexico (involved in battling drug trade)? Any takers?
