BREAKING: ACORN’s New Orleans Office Raided by Louisiana Attorney General
merrie
by merrie  11-6-2009    1
According to NOLA.com: Attorney General Buddy Caldwell has served a search warrant at the ACORN office at 2609 Canal Street, according to Tammi Arender Herring, a spokeswoman with the office. Investigators in khaki pants and polo shirts loaded several dozen computers and other electronic items into an SUV. They are also carrying records out of the building on handcarts. The large office building sits at the corner of Dorgenois and Canal. ACORN staffers were given no notice that a search would be conducted today, Herring said. From WDAM in New Orleans: Caldwell said investigators will copy records and hard drives, then return them to ACORN. He said the original allegations of embezzlement were made last year by ACORN board members who were fired after they asked for a forensic examination of the group’s books. ACORN fired the longtime director of its Louisiana chapter last month, citing a lack of accountability. by Capitol Confidential Big Governm

ACORN-linked groups from neighboring Pennsylvania and New York "appear to have moved into the state," Fund wrote. Fund also reported that the state's Democratic Party is pressuring county clerks around the Garden State to downplay signature checks on absentee ballots. Without such checking, it is very difficult to detect absentee vote fraud.

Does President of SEIU Have Preferential Access To White House?
merrie
by merrie  11-1-2009
But you can't automatically disqualify an entry because of a large number of visitors: Stern was among the 393 guests at the White House's St. Patrick's Day event. As far as I can tell, THE Andrew Stern was the top outside visitor to the White House with approximately 20 visits, or about three visits per month, including four relatively small meetings with the president and a dozen with other White House staffers. Stern has openly bragged about the SEIU's $61 million investment in Barack Obama. It certainly bought him a lot of access. Update: And while we're on the subject of the SEIU, here's an interesting entry: On March 3, ACORN spokesman Scott Levenson met with White House political affairs director Patrick Gaspard, who came to the White House from SEIU. Unsurprising, given the groups' close ties. I wonder what they talked about. 10/30

SEIU Needs Socialized Medicine To Stoke Its Underfunded Pensions

and union employees at the expense of the rank-and-file. To regain some semblance of fiscal stability, the SEIU has wagered heavily on forcing other employees to help fund its drying pension reserves. That was the motivation behind the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) ("Card Check"), a major Democrat initiative for 2009, and one on which the SEIU spent tens of millions of its members' money. Since Card Check is in serious trouble with lawmakers, state-run health care would be a suitable alternative. • The public option could force hospital and other health care workers into underfunded pensions, putting their retirements at risk • The average union pension has resources to cover only 62% of what is owed to participants • Less than one in every 160 union-represented workers is covered by a union pension with required assets • The PBGC already supports upwards of 30,000 pension plans • Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation (PBGC), the governmental pension insurer,

Congress Must Pass Republican Leader Boehner’s Defund ACORN Act

or any other form of agreement to this criminal organization. ACORN ally Representative Jerrold Nadler has lead the charge against the Defund ACORN Act. He has claimed that it is an unconstitutional *" Bill of Attainder " an argument that has been thoroughly rebutted by former FEC Commissioner Hans von Spakovsky. Nadler had no such reservations when he co-sponsered legislation to punish AIG employees who had been awarded bonuses. *A legislative act pronouncing a person guilty of a crime, usually treason, without trial and subjecting that person to capital punishment and attainder. Such acts are prohibited by the U.S. Constitution. Congress moving to cut off funds to ACORN for the next 50 days is a merely a first step. An organization with ACORN’s history of voter registration fraud, tax evasion, and criminal activity should never again be eligible to receive any federal funds. Stopping payment to this criminal enterprise is not enough.

All it would take for ACORN funding to resume is the absence of any specific defunding language. If that language is not there, then federal agencies would again have the discretion of sending taxpayer dollars to ACORN. What happens in December could be the key to ACORN's future.

ACORN foresaw the foreclosure crisis in 2001
Lexica
by Lexica  10-23-2009
More: Moreover, Oakland's law would have gone much farther than requiring that borrowers could afford loans. In 2001, ACORN officials already recognized that the driving force behind the subprime lending was the ability of brokers to chop up risky mortgages, repackage them with good loans as "securities," and sell them to other banks on a largely unregulated market. When homeowners who couldn't afford their loans later defaulted on them, these securities became widely known as "toxic assets" and were the primary cause of the world financial crisis… But if Oakland's law had been widely adopted, the bailout likely would have been unnecessary and the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression probably averted. Why? Because the city's ordinance not only would have held mortgage brokers liable for making bad loans, but also every other bank that later bought pieces of those bad loans after they were securitized. In short, the market for subprime loans would have dried up.

ACORN Video: Prostitution Scandal in Philadelphia, PA Part I

posing as a prostitute and her boyfriend, soliciting advice about a possible housing loan from workers in the Philadelphia office of ACORN Housing Corp. Previous videos showed the same pair, also posing as a prostitute and her boyfriend, visiting ACORN offices in other cities. The Philadelphia visit is significant because of a dispute over statements ACORN has made defending what took place when Giles and O'Keefe visited the Philadelphia office last summer. Supporters of O'Keefe and Giles said ACORN has lied about whether the two were thrown out of the Philadelphia office, how much time they spent there and whether they explicitly told ACORN workers that Giles was a prostitute. At a news conference, O'Keefe went through an edited version of what he said was a 32-minute visit to the Philadelphia office. "At no point were we kicked out, at no time were we asked to leave," O'Keefe said after playing the video. http://biggovernment.com/

Healthcare Applied to AIDS in DC.....Theft & Fraud
merrie
by merrie  10-21-2009    3
More than $500,000 was earmarked for a housing program whose executive director had a string of convictions for theft, drugs and forgery. After the D.C. Inspector General’s Office could find no evidence that he was operating an AIDS nonprofit group, the city terminated the grant but never sought repayment. All told, the Health Department’s HIV/AIDS Administration awarded more than $25 million from 2004 to 2008 to nonprofit agencies marked by questionable spending, a lack of clients, or lapses in record-keeping and care, a 10-month Washington Post investigation found. The conservative solution to AIDS would be to stop spreading it by indulging in degenerate behavior. The liberal solution is to shovel mountains of other people’s money at corrupt ACORN types. Guess which approach will be used under ObamaCare. On a tip from Puffdaddy. Cross-posted at Moonbattery.

To some media observers, it’s almost the definition of a “chilling effect” " a governmental attempt to steer reporters away from negative coverage " but the White House press corps has barely uttered a word of complaint. Fox denies its news coverage is slanted, and even White House aides say the network’s top correspondent there, Major Garrett, is a straight shooter. But in its non-news hours, Fox mixes in a steady diet of criticism of President Barack Obama by its prominent conservative commentators Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck. It’s a formula that works for Fox, with the highest ratings in cable news. A day after White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Obama senior adviser David Axelrod said other journalists .

Gorilla poses as prostitute: ACORN tells it to pose as illegal alien instead

The "gorilla" responded in perfect English: "Do you take Visa or Mastercard?" "Yes, but not American Express, Diner's Club or personal checks," Riola told the undercover reporter. Digital video was obtained by ABSNN that showed the ACORN staffer pocketing a large wad of US currency, after counting it several times. She then proceeded to fill out the paperwork. "I'll sign it for you, since gorillas can't write, but that will cost an additional $395, monkey," she said. The Crockashit News Network reporter paid the additional money and asked for a receipt, but was denied one due to the fact that ACORN had no such item in stock. "You'll just have to trust us, sugar. Come back in two weeks for your money, less of course, our 58% fee. Now, get your monkey ass outta here,' Riola told the "gorilla."
