POPSLevitation in the Lab continues: Several years ago, acoustic levitation was introduced to keep a droplet separate from its surroundings but the equipment required for this is complex, big and expensive. Alternatively, the technique of bouncing droplets was introduced in 2005 but until now it could only be used on a specific range of droplets with high viscosity. The new technique which the physicists began work on three years ago, when one of the researchers noticed that certain bass notes emanating from his iPod speaker could make droplets 'roll' and appear to dance, works for a much larger range of viscosity fluids than previous techniques and also for a larger range of droplet size – making it much more useful for chemists, biologists and food scientists.

POPSNevermore Nevermore is a North American thrash metal band from Seattle, Washington assembled in 1991. Their precise musical style is debated by fans and critics alike. The band incorporates elements from styles such as death, speed, and progressive metal into their songs, and also makes use of acoustic guitars and a wide range of vocal styles. Nevermore started in the beginning of the 1990s, when the band Sanctuary was pressured by its recording label to change its musical style, switching from heavy metal to grunge, which was obtaining mainstream success at the time due to bands such as Nirvana. Two members of the band - vocalist Warrel Dane and bassist Jim Sheppard - didn't agree with the change, and thus proceeded to create a project of their own - Nevermore.

POPSTrock (Timelord Rock) continues: The band also has a new song called "Exterminate Regenerate" - it's got a synth flair and is actually quite a bit better than "Blink." You can hear it on the band's MySpace page. What can we expect next from Trock? Hopefully a huge upswelling of tragic tales of love and betrayal featuring the Master, along with some angry breakup songs from Sarah Jane. I am prepared to fully back this awesome new trend, as long as nobody spins it off into Twock - you know, Torchwood rock. I am not ready to face that quite yet. Thanks, Ria!
