POPSHunger on The Increase in the USA One of the biggest myths about the USA is that it's a land of plenty enjoyed by all. But last year 36 million Americans went hungry without access to food. Many of them were children. Yet during the last 7 years the wealthiest among us knew enormous economic growth. Those who thought that the Lord of the manor was disposed to throw the remains of the meal to the serfs were kidding themselves. When possible they will consume every last morsel. Trickle down economics is a mere talking point when in fact the spigot is mostly turned off.

POPSMedia's Mum On Fannie Mae's "Love Connection" “Herb Moses, who helped develop many of Fannie Mae’s affordable housing and home improvement lending programs, has left the mortgage industry,”Darryl Hicks wrote for NMN. “Mr. Moses - whose last day was Feb. 13 - spent the past seven years at Fannie Mae, most recently as director of housing initiatives. Over the course of time, he played an instrumental role in developing the company’s Title One and 203(k) home improvement lending programs.” While Moses served at Fannie Mae and was Frank’s partner, Frank was actively working to support GSEs, according to several news outlets. In 1991, Frank and former Rep. Joe Kennedy, D-Mass., lobbied for Fannie to soften rules on multi-family home mortgages although those dwellings showed a default rate twice that of single-family homes, according to the Nov. 22, 1991, Boston Globe.

POPSFather and 13 Year Old Daughter Accused Of Dragging Their Horse Behind Truck A father and daughter were arrested near their home in Florence after a Pinal County Sheriff's deputy saw them drag a horse tied to the back of a truck and then kick the horse in the head, officials said. Gordon Allen Bates, 51, and his 13-year-old daughter, who has not been identified, were arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty on Monday in Florence. Deputies were dispatched to E. Javelina Drive around 6:30 a.m. for a welfare check after a caller told them the owner of a horse was going to kill the animal. The horse, now doing well in the care of the Arizona Department of Agriculture, was bleeding severely from his nose. The horse also had road rash and multiple cuts and abrasions. Bates then told the deputy that the horse would not obey and he needed to get it to another location, PCSO said. Both suspects were arrested and released. Animal cruelty charges have been submitted to the County Attorney's Office.

POPSWhy do we gain weight? we eat more. i know it sounds simplistic, but before linking obesity to viruses and other sophisticated theories, one should look straight to the facts, we eat more in quantities, more processed food. We are too reluctant to consciously restrict the availability that we face. a point to think about.

POPSMagical Thinking vs. Reality amount to $1.05 to $1.38 per gallon, or 42 to 55 percent of ethanol's wholesale market price. Ethanol does not reduce gasoline prices. If you lived in urban areas that used reformulated gasoline last summer -- that's the environmentally "clean" gasoline required for areas with air pollution problems -- you might have paid up to 60 cents a gallon more for gasoline. That's because the federal government required oil refineries to use 4 billion gallons of ethanol in 2006, regardless of price, and gas pump prices last summer reflected the fact that ethanol was twice as expensive as conventional gas in wholesale markets, and far more costly to deliver. The truth is that if ethanol has commercial merit, it doesn't need the subsidy. And if it doesn't, no amount of subsidy will bestow it.
