Global Warming Lies Will Bring On An Economic Recession
merrie
by merrie  11-17-2008    5
October 2008 went down as Fairbanks’ fourth-coldest October on record since 1904, according to meteorologist Rick Thoman with the National Weather Service in Fairbanks. The average temperature of 15.1 degrees was 8.4 degrees below normal. … There were 13 days when the low temperature was zero or colder, the most sub-zero days in October since 1965, which holds the record of 14 sub-zero days in October and ranks as the second-coldest October on record. These 2008 records challenging levels going back to 1904 and 1965 prove that CO2 levels cannot be the driver of global temperatures claimed by the alarmists on the left and inside the UN. CO2 levels are very high compared to 1904, let alone 1965, and so is the world’s human population. For example, in 1900 the world population was 1.65 billion people, in 1965 it was 3.33 billion and in 2005 it was 6.45 billion.

Novelist-Screenwriter Michael Crichton, Dies At 66
merrie
by merrie  11-5-2008
Crichton would visit that theme again with his triumphant Jurassic Park -- the story of a billionaire entrepreneur who tries to thwart nature and evolution by creating a theme park of genetically engineered dinosaurs. Again, the villain was of our own creation and just doing what nature dictated. In addition to being a prolific novelist, Crichton was an accomplished screenwriter (Extreme Close-Up, Twister) and director (Coma) -- the latter also a scientific cautionary tale by a British MD turned writer, Robin Cooke. He believed that there was a phenomenon he called "consensus science" that invented or exaggerated the existence or effects of such things as global warming and second-hand smoke. No less a believer than Al Gore dismissed Crichton, and presumably his 2004 novel State of Fear, by telling a U.S. House committee: "The planet has a fever. If your baby has a fever, you go to the doctor....

They must not have listened to Ugh Gore’s dire predictions when he chiseled out his rockumentary “An Inconvenient Twooth: How Woolly Mammoth Drivers Are Killing The Planet!”. The fools. The KPCB Green Growth Fund will also enable the firm to extend its existing collaboration with the London-based Generation Investment Management, whose chairman Al Gore, former Vice President of the United States and Nobel Laureate, joined KPCB as Partner last year. Through their alliance, the firms actively work together to find, fund and accelerate green solutions with the greatest potential to help solve the climate crisis. Generation co-founder and Managing Partner David Blood said, “There is a significant gap between the capital needed and the capital currently deployed to create enduring solutions to the climate crisis. http://tomnelson.blogspot.com/2008/05/al-gore-continues-his-brazen-efforts-to.html

Are Global Warmists Pulling A Cool Fast One?
merrie
by merrie  5-5-2008    4
The New York Times rolled out Kevin Trenberth, a climate scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, in Boulder, CO. Tremberth told them that "the global climate will continue to be influenced in any particular decade by a mix of natural variability and the building greenhouse effect" and that "a cool phase does not mean the overall theory of dangerous human-driven warming is flawed." And then added what appears to be the latest greenie talking point: "Too many think global warming means monotonic relentless warming everywhere year after year. It does not happen that way." Is anyone else noticing a trend developing here, beyond the "we never said that warming patterns would be steady" shuffle? Each explanation, whether by Willis, Keenlyside and Latif, Wood, or Trenberth implies that some climate forces natural are more formidable than those anthropogenic.

The excuse to end all excuses
willhelm
by willhelm  3-4-2008    14
"This is as lovely a non sequitur as you’re ever likely to find. I can’t help but wonder if he blushed when he wrote it; I know I did when I read it. This excuse is absolutely bullet proof. I am in awe of it. There is no possible observation that can negate it. Whatever happens is a win for its believer. If the temperature goes up, the believer can say, “Our theories predicted this.” If the temperature goes down, the believer can say, “There was no way to know the future.” What the believer in this statement is asking us to do, if it is not already apparent, is this: he wants you to believe that his prognostications are true because AGW is true, but he also wants you to believe that he should not be held accountable for his predictions should they fail because AGW is true. Thus, AGW is just true."

How much scientific abuse can a polar bear?
Wadard
by Wadard  11-6-2007    2
A favourite deceit of AGW sceptics is to present Bjorn Lomberg as a "scientist." He isn't. His PhD is in Political Science — a humanity. There are different methodologies between those used in "hard" and social sciences. Social sciences don't really use the scientific method. This is clearly demonstrated through out a recent Salon.com interview with Bjorn, and was especially telling in the discussion of Bjorn's use of polar bears. Here is a response to the writer quoting one expert's opinion (a front-line researcher in polar bears). "OK. But I've talked to a different expert that's up in Greenland, who works for the Danish government, and he has looked over my chapter, and said that it's OK." If only all experts were equal. Bjorn's referencing of another expert is supposed to counter the point, but he never makes a commitment on which has the better data and the better hypothesis — a fundamental step in science. We will be tested over the next twenty years, so we w

The War on AGW Denial, Part 2
Wadard
by Wadard  6-19-2007
Holocaust denial is illegal in civilised countries of the world. So why shouldn't we render the orchestrated efforts of the well-funded global warming denial industry to nought, by making anthropogenic global warming denial illegal (unless it's genuine scientific research published in peer-review journals)? Advertisers are not allowed to make false and misleading claims about their products. Isn't it time we subjected fossil-fuel funded think-tanks and 'foundations' to the same scrutiny as advertisers?

Will Aussies voters wear the green and gold?
Wadard
by Wadard  4-29-2007
I predicted early on that global warming is going to be a major factor in the Australian federal elections planned for the end of this year. Last week Prime Minister John Howard belatedly recognised this in attempting to divert the focus away from AGW and onto economic management, when he claimed that, "climate change is not the overriding moral challenge for Australians". Then he contradicted himself by clearing the way for a nuclear powered future, using global warming mitigation as his Trojan horse. This weekend Labor pressed on with its perceived electoral advantage, announcing a policy to subsidise home generated solar energy for households earning under $250,00 per year by way of interest free loans. One big benefit of this approach, to my mind, is that it would stimulate a local solar and renewable energy industry.
