POPSOil-Rich States Starve the World Food Program The OPEC total amounts to roughly one minute and 10 seconds worth of the organization’s estimated $674 billion in annual oil revenues in 2007 — revenues that will be vastly exceeded in 2008 with the continuing spiral in world oil prices. This year, the U.S. had contributed $362.7 million to WFP just through May 4, according to the website. That figure does not include another $250 million above the planned yearly contribution that was promised by President George W. Bush in the wake of WFP’s April warning that a “silent tsunami” of rising food costs would add dramatically to the world population living in hunger. Nor does it include another $770 million in food aid that President Bush has asked Congress to provide as soon as possible. On the other hand, Saudi Arabia, with oil revenues last year of $164 billion, does not even appear on the website donor list for 2008.

POPSUS gives $216m in food aid First thing, drop the ethanol thing. It's a major cause of food price increases here in the US. Someone asked if it's in our Constitution that we are responsible for feeding the world? I wonder; are we creating a world-wide welfare system? And how much accountability will there accompany this great gift? I wish we'd send some John Deeres, the Peace Corp, and of course, some military to protect them...and help these starving people to be able to help themselves. (sigh) There really will be no end or even a significant decrease. We and those poor hungry people will be robbed blind.

POPSCharity SHOULD Start at Home!
US Government ONLY gave over 3 billion dollars in aid and grants to Latin America in 2005. Chavez is critical of the US saying we should do MORE to help their region...I say no. Not right now. We should do more to help OUR region. That 3 billion in aid to Latin America in 2005 would have been better spent at home. OUR HOME! A 2006 report: "US spent over 1.4 billion dollars to support relief efforts in New Orleans for Katrina victims...all of it fraudulent." A BIG FEMA oops. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,199348,00.html 07-27-07: Many nations tried to come to the aid of Katrina victims (even our adversaries) to show of compassion. That aid was flat out denied! http://www.citizensforethics.org/node/29651 A high school-er wrote in 05': "Remember, charity starts at home. Why does it take a hurricane to make people want to help the needy?" http://www.decaturdaily.com/decaturdaily/teenpage/columns/050913a.shtml "WE" do help the needy...while the US Gov. helps its own agenda.

POPSChernobyl - What's Left It's good to know that nowadays we know how to build safe nuclear reactors, isn't it? Er... hang on a sec... wasn't that what we were told 20 and 30 years ago? "Nuclear Energy - the cheap, clean, safe alternative"?
