POPSCalifornia economy loses $28 billion yearly to health effects of pollution Considered the most lethal form of air pollution, microscopic particulates expelled from tailpipes, factory smoke stacks, diesel trucks and equipment can penetrate through the lungs and enter the bloodstream. Exposure to these fine particles has been linked to severe asthma, cancer and premature deaths from heart and lung disease. "In the South Coast basin, an average 64% of the population is exposed to health-endangering annual averages of particulates," Hall said, "and in the most populated county -- Los Angeles -- it is 75%. "In most years, the South Coast and San Joaquin basins vie with the Houston, Texas, area for the worst air pollution trophy, but this year we took it back," she said. "That's not a prize you want to be handed. Essentially, imported T-shirts and tennis shoes are being hauled to Omaha and the big-rig diesel pollution stays here."

POPSBush's Brave New (Financial) World, Orwellian Policies
Financial fascism step by step. In case you missed it Bush announced yesterday that the federal government is "taking" a share in the 9 top banks, who were FORCED to sign papers in Bush's office and accept $250 billion in cash (created from thin air and the Bailout plan) and the governments terms, like it or not! (See my clipmark on Great Bank Bailout). Yes, the Federal government "made an offer they could not refuse", mafia style, to these top banks. One of the bank CEOs protested loudly, saying his firm was not in trouble. He was forced to sign anyway , as Bush government makes up the rules (apart from the Constitution) in this Brave New Dictatorship. Mish continues: Bush, Paulson, Bernanke, and others are responding with measures that lead one further down the path of fascism, supposedly to "preserve the system". "9/11 changed everything", ergo, "the financial crisis changed everything"--the same pattern and excuse for gov't control.

POPSFinancial Crisis: Fed Becomes Rogue Power
The Fed under Bernanke does whatever it wants. There is little constraints on it by law, being a creature actually outside of government. The "central bank" is actually a consortium of private banks with authority to print money "from thin air", as it states here. The Federal Reserve is no more "federal" than Federal Express. The only reason the Fed Chairman Bernanke went to Congress for a Bailout Plan (by using Treas. Sec'y Paulson to front, and hiding behind Bush) was to cover his hindquarters, and gain "consent" (by fear and coercion) of Congress, and putting Americans on the hook with them. Note the article states that the Fed acted already on its own to bailout Bear Stearns and make other "loans" (print money) without Congress: The Bernanke Fed first invoked rarely used 1930s powers to intervene — with taxpayer backing — in March when it provided a $29 billion loan as part of JPMorgan Chase & Co.'s takeover of Bear Stearns. The Fed is now Czar.

POPS Wind Blows Kite Surfer Into Bldg. Caught On Tape (CBS4) ― A man in Fort Lauderdale seeking some thrills on the rough surf didn't heed that warning and ended up in the hospital after being hurt in an astonishing kite boarding accident. The kite boarder was harnessed into his sail when the wind violently picked him up and slammed him onto the sandy beach. Then, he was dragged across the sand before being lifted up into the air again and blown across the street where the wind slammed him into a building. Fort Lauderdale fire rescue crews quickly arrived on the scene and transported him to Broward General Medical Center. He is currently listed in critical condition, but his friends continue to insist they believe he will make a full recovery. Kearney's friends say he was strapped into a harness with emergency releases. However, everything happened so fast, it's possible he had no time to think about unhooking his clasps. POPSChina pays a high price for environmental indifference! As it vandalizes much of the natural World in its bid to exploit natural resources China's years of indifference to environmental woes is coming to haunt its leaders. Bravo! All the pomp and ceremony could well be shrouded by a real "pea soup" of pollution. It fits well in a nation which obscures its abuses of human rights, its willingness to tolerate so much fake in medicines, products, etc. Its time for China to "come clean" in more ways than just its smog!

POPSFeds Charge Two With Conspiracy To Export Aircraft Parts To Iran
Federal agents executed a search warrant at Bujduveanu's home and business immediately after his arrest. Agents found boxes of military aircraft parts stored on Bujduvenau's property, including hundreds of parts for the C-130, the F-5, and other military aircraft. "Today's defendants are charged with illegally selling US military equipment to Iran, thus helping that country build up its military strength," said R. Alexander Acosta, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida. "We owe it to the many service men and women who defend us to vigorously prosecute illegal exports of American military equipment." "Disrupting illegal procurement networks that attempt to circumvent our sanctions against Iran is a top priority of the Bureau of Industry and Security," said Special Agent in Charge, Michael Johnson. "This case demonstrates the importance of team work in preventing diversion of sensitive US goods," he added.

POPSIsrael: Massive Rocket Barrage In South It was the first indication that the blast was caused by an accident, a claim earlier made by Israel "We deny any connection to this incident," IDF spokeswoman Maj. Avital Leibovich had said, adding that the army had not been operating in the area at the time. Meanwhile, IDF soldiers opened fire at a car that approached the border fence in northern Gaza. The army said the Palestinians in the vehicle apparently attempted to infiltrate Israel. Earlier, three Palestinian gunmen were killed by IDF soldiers operating in Gaza. The army said that two gunmen were identified alongside the security fence near Beit Lahiya and were fired upon by Givati Brigade troops, who confirmed a hit. A third operative was killed in an IAF air strike in the nearby Jabalya refugee camp. Palestinian sources claimed that Fatah operatives had attempted to infiltrate an IDF outpost in the northern Gaza Strip and were killed in the ensuing gun battle.

POPSGermany bans chemicals linked to honeybee devastation The company says an application error by the seed company which failed to use the glue-like substance that sticks the pesticide to the seed, led to the chemical getting into the air. Bayer spokesman Dr Julian Little told the BBC's Farming Today that misapplication is highly unusual. "It is an extremely rare event and has not been seen anywhere else in Europe," he said. Clothianidin, like the other neonicotinoid pesticides that have been temporarily suspended in Germany, is a systemic chemical that works its way through a plant and attacks the nervous system of any insect it comes into contact with. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency it is "highly toxic" to honeybees.

POPSMcCain's Miserable Record on Hurricane Katrina More: He voted against allowing up to 52 weeks of unemployment benefits to people affected by the hurricane, and in 2006 voted against appropriating $109 billion in supplemental emergency funding, including $28 billion for hurricane relief. Shortly after the disaster in New Orleans, McCain did introduce a bill that sought to improve communications mechanisms for first-responders and authorities. The bill failed to go anywhere, and McCain later voted against other bills that had similar provisions. McCain may talk sympathetically about New Orleans' recovery this week, but the record shows that when it mattered most, McCain failed to act.

POPSAnother step..... .....to the North American Union. This is FACT. There IS an agreement, signed secretly by Bush and the PM of Canada and the Pres of Mexico (Fox at the time) to end the United States as we know it. Our country is doomed if we allow this to continue. We will, just like Europe, have one currency, the Amero, and that's that! If this don't piss you people off, nothing will.

POPSGunman Kills 8 Israeli Students At Jerusalem Seminary
The Free Galil Brigades and Group of Imad Mughniyeh and Martyrs of Gaza'' claimed responsibility for the attack. The Soviet-made weapon has a longer range and is more lethal than the Qassam rockets primarily used by militants in Gaza. ``Israel will never allow terrorism to achieve its goals,'' Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said in a statement after the Jerusalem attack. ``Israel is at the forefront of the struggle against terrorism and will continue to defend its citizens, who are exposed to this threat on a daily basis.'' Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski said it was ``a sad day'' and called on the government to complete the construction of a barrier to separate the city from the West Bank. Hamas has ruled Gaza since ousting troops loyal to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and ending a partnership government with him. Abbas said yesterday he intends to resume peace talks with Israel. Hamas refuses to recognize Israel and rejects negotiations with the Jewish stat

POPSCanadian Troops To Patrol US Cities As Food Riots Feared "It is interesting to note, too, that the Canadian peoples, like their American neighbors to the south, were not told of these plans for their Military Forces, and as we can read as reported by Canada’s Canwest News Service, and who say: "Canada and the U.S. have signed an agreement that paves the way for the militarizes from either nation to send troops across each other's borders during an emergency, but some are questioning why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal. Neither the Canadian government nor the Canadian Forces announced the new agreement, which was signed Feb. 14 in Texas." "
