They Wanna Know
debbyski
by debbyski  10-20-2008
"In exchange for the decoding of their DNA, participants agree to make it available to all — along with photographs, their disease histories, allergies, medications, ethnic backgrounds and a trove of other traits, called phenotypes, from food preferences to television viewing habits." The project has drawn criticism from scientists and bioethicists who caution that even its highly educated volunteers cannot understand the practical and psychological risks of disclosing information long regarded as quintessentially private."

Facts About Epi Pens
keepingscore
by keepingscore  10-1-2008
Anaphylactic shock is a serious and sometimes deadly reaction that can be experienced by people who have a variety of allergies, including peanut allergies. The most frightening thing about this condition is that it can strike at any time. People most often experience this reaction when they are away from home, and consuming foods with unfamiliar or unlisted ingredients.

Study links paracetemol to asthma risk
pokkets
by pokkets  9-19-2008    1
I'm sure too many people give children paracetemol because they are crying through hunger or fear. Because an adult has a headache from the crying so the Child should? No The Primary use for Paracetemol in Children, is to reduce fever, when it goes over 38.5 degrees, because children can be particularly sensitive to fever, because it can cause convulsions. Only a small reduction is usually needed (0.5 deg) before the chances are minimalized . In any other case the damage caused by the solution, can far outweigh any benefit

Parents arrested after hospital standoff over baby
tommy2balmy
by tommy2balmy  9-15-2008
The Canadian government has no jurisdiction over Moorish-Americans, the religious leader argued, adding the baby should not have been seized by the Children's Aid Society. "It basically infringes on his nationality," he said. For decades, the U.S.-based Nation of Moorish-Americans has espoused that, thanks to a historic treaty, millions of black Americans are actually a divine and sovereign people, and also citizens of Morocco. The Canadian chapter led by Mr. Sut Tekh El is relatively new, but he said he has about 30 members.

The Dog's Diary vs The Cat's Diary
swampfoxz
by swampfoxz  8-16-2008    1
Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates my capabilities. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. Bastards! There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Northeast States Praised for Allergy Policies
Allison Van Dusen
by Allison Van Dusen  8-13-2008
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation has given top marks to Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Jersey for having policies that support kids with asthma and allergies in school. The group estimates that more than 5 million children in the U.S. have asthma and 2.2 million have a food allergy. States were graded based on their efforts to institute 18 policies, including those that protect students' access to their medications, promote the development of emergency protocols for dealing with asthma and anaphylaxis episodes and ban tobacco use in schools. Those states with the lowest rankings include South Dakota, Georgia, Wyoming and Oklahoma.

Collateral damage of milk consumption
AudiTy
by AudiTy  8-3-2008
Terminate Your Milk Habit Doctors and nutritionists now recommend that we all stop drinking milk because it’s been linked to heart disease, allergies, some cancers, and even osteoporosis, the bone-weakening disease that we used to think it would prevent. Dairy products contain no fiber or complex carbohydrates and are laden with saturated fat and cholesterol. They are often contaminated with cows’ blood, pus, pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics. For more information on kicking the dairy habit, check out www.MilkSucks.com
