POPStaxes/clinton-bush OK taxes were higher during Clinton, but pretty much everyone except the over 150K income bracket is making less money now. Clinton used this formula to eliminate the federal deficit. Where is it now after 7.5 yrs of Bush and his lower taxes? So the real question is: would you rather pay slightly more in taxes for a Clinton type deficit, or keep your Bush tax cuts and kick the ball down the road to future generations like your kids?

POPS"Obamanomics" A "Recipe For Recession" Thus, while Mr. Obama also proposes an alternative minimum tax (AMT) patch, he could instead wind up with the permanent abolition plan for the AMT proposed by the Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel (D., N.Y.) -- a 4.6% additional hike in the marginal rate with no deductibility of state income taxes. Marginal tax rates would then approach 70%, levels not seen since the 1970s and among the highest in the world. The after-tax return to work -- the take-home wage for more time or effort -- would be cut by more than 40%. That would, obviously, devastate the economy. Worse, it is unfair. It is simply immoral for the state to confiscate 70% of anyone's income. It would be deeply ironic if, at a time when the rest of the world is moving toward greater freedom in the form of lower tax rates, the United States were to regress to the stultifying statism of the 1970s. Yet that is exactly what Barack Obama promises.

POPSObama fights back on FOX The Illinois senator then took his seat and began to discuss how he would repair the Alternative Minimum Tax, reform military spending and offer affordable healthcare to the poor and working poor of America I know it's just satire, but FOX really deserves something like this.

POPS Pelosi And Reid's "PayGo" Is Now "PayGone" The budget deficit is a little above 1% of GDP, which is below the 25-year average, and should remain so as long as the economy keeps growing. But paygo shouldn't be allowed to expire without everyone kicking sand on its grave. That's because it has been nothing but a confidence game from the very start. Paygo doesn't apply to domestic discretionary spending, and it doesn't restrain spending increases under current law in entitlements like Medicare and Medicaid. Its main goals are to make tax cutting all but impossible, while letting Democrats pretend to favor "fiscal discipline," a la Ms. Pelosi's boast above. ...

POPSCongressional Foolery For all the fools out there that look forward to getting a refund check. You refund check is nothing more than a interest free savings account that the government benefits from. Now that check may be slow in getting to you. Do some homework at tax time, adjust your tax withholding so that you either pay some tax or get close to a zero tax return.

POPS Trash-talking, Whining, Finger-pointing And Bickering
Sen. Reid's fury over the inability to move the Democrats’ legislative agenda seemed to have deepened since Tuesday, when he accused President Bush of “pulling the strings on the 49 puppets he has here in the Senate.” That reference to the Republicans, in a speech on the Senate floor, prompted Senator Arlen Specter, Republican of Pennsylvania, to accuse Mr. Reid of violating a rule prohibiting senators from imputing “any conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a senator.” “It is my view that being called a puppet is in direct violation of that rule,” Mr. Specter said. He added: “I wonder if he is up to the job when he resorts to that kind of a statement, which only furthers the level of rancor.” On Thursday, Mr. Bush once again criticized Congressional Democrats, saying they were not doing enough to help homeowners hurt by the mortgage crisis. “The Congress has not sent me a single bill to help homeowners,” he said. (Senate Democrats blame Republicans for blocking such bills.

POPSWill Your Tax Refund Be Delayed? Democrats have backed themselves into a corner on this one. 23 million taxpayers are not going to forgive Congress if they get hit with AMT in January. And Senate Republicans aren't going to raise taxes to offset AMT relief. The options: add $50 million to the deficit, find a compromise quickly, or delay refunds. Time is running out. --Brian Wingfield

POPSAll the Makings of a Carnival, Except the Fun That I found this in the NYT is interesting....Reid acting the fool and clown. It *is* a very sad state of affairs, but signs of our times. Our Country is significantly divided, politically, and Congress is simply fleshing that out. It also amazes me that candidates can dogmatically make sweeping claims about what all they're going to do "if only I get elected"...and then they're shocked and incensed to discover that they are not as powerful or persuasive as they thought they were. Petty, spiteful, bitter, arrogant, boastful....a pock on both their Houses. Did I mention 'petty'?

POPSHouse passes $80 Billion dollar Tax Relief bill The White House said the bill will never pass. The bill will mainly affect investment fund managers. AMT, was created in 1969, to stop wealthy using deductions and tax breaks to avoid paying tax. It has never been indexed for inflation. Every year more and more middle income earners fall into the bracket. The Democrats have been 'patching' the Legislation, What was the average income in 1969? Why should middle income earners pay tax for the sake of investment fund managers?

POPSChomsky: If US was a true Democracy!
On all these topics, White House policy is completely at odds with what public opinion wants. But the media rarely publish the polls that highlight this persistent public opposition. Not only are citizens excluded from political power, they are also kept in a state of ignorance as to the true state of public opinion. There is growing international concern about the massive US double deficit affecting trade and the budget. But both are closely linked to a third deficit, the democratic deficit that is constantly growing, not only in the US but all over the western world. The US press sometimes publishes even my work, and the US is not a totalitarian country. But anyone who fails to fulfil certain minimum requirements does not stand a chance of becoming an established commentator. One of the big differences between the propaganda system of a totalitarian state and democratic societies go about things. Exaggerating slightly, in totalitarian countries the state decides the official li

POPSDemocrats go to War The Dems seemed to have picked the summer season to go to war with their favorite enemy; the evil rich. It is hard for them to find a terrorist or dictator not to their liking, but the thrifty, productive, and successful bring out their battle flags. As per usual, they have a bit of trouble figuring out their exact quarry ... $500K, $200K, even $75K the Democrats are far better with nearly anyone's money than the people themselves, so they feel it is a huge benefit to all if they can just get it away from those nasty folks that have managed to make it. Subsidize what you want more of -- retirement of productive people, more ineffective union educators, scads of government union employees. Tax what you want less of -- business, productivity, income. Soon some Democrat will tell us that "the best years of the US are behind us" ... no doubt it will be Bush's fault!
