POPSFlorida town needs ACLU to show them why their principal is a BIGOT! And despite this, they still don't think he did anything wrong. Nothing? Punishing his students for something he has no right to? For displaying a very profound bigoted attitude towards some group of people, all because his outdated religious BS says he should? POPSBackground on Georgia President Saakashvili The Bush administration, with its broad assurances of support for Georgia, has come in for strong criticism in Georgia for having emboldened Mr. Saakashvili to challenge Russia. But Mr. Saakashvili has resisted the notion that he was somehow taken in. Asked in a recent interview on CNN if he believed Georgia could win against Russia militarily, Mr. Saakashvili said, “I am not crazy.”

POPSThose Damn Liberals Intolerance, hate, prejudice. Still alive and very active in large portions of the US. Incidents like this remind us to never become complacent and assume that actions like this are rare or isolated. Almost 8,000 hate crimes in 2006. And according to the Southern Poverty Law Center they are on the rise.

POPSAnti-Obama Movie On The Way: Citizens United One prominent Citizens United movie is “Celsius 41.11,” which says it tells the “truth behind the lies” of the Michael Moore movie “Fahrenheit 9/11.” Other Citizens United movies are critical of the United Nations, illegal immigration, and the American Civil Liberties Union, while one movie promotes Newt Gingrich and his ideas. The conservative group is also looking to the U.S. Supreme Court for help in advertising the anti-Hillary movie. It is opposing a federal regulation, under the McCain-Feingold Act, requiring that a disclaimer that identifies the group be placed at the end of television ads promoting the movie and criticizing Mrs. Clinton. It is also arguing that it should not have to disclose how much it spent to produce the movie and the ads, nor who contributed to it. The Supreme Court is scheduled to decide next week whether it will hear the case.

POPSConservative whining about appeasement has long history Conservatives even applied this critique to one of the most dangerous moments in human history: the Cuban missile crisis, during which the United States and the Soviet Union nearly came to nuclear blows over Moscow's deployment of missiles 90 miles off the American coast. When President Kennedy successfully negotiated a peaceful conclusion to the crisis, conservative icon Barry Goldwater protested that he had appeased the Soviets by promising not to invade Cuba if they backed down. POPSFREE EMAIL S2284 THE SENATE VOTE FOR DOMESTIC ENERGY PRODUCTION What the McConnell amendment would do: •Produce up to 24 billion barrels of oil when fully enacted—enough oil to keep America running for 5 years with no foreign imports. •Allow petitions for leasing activities on the Outer Continental Shelf—an area with 14 billion barrels of known recoverable oil. •As no new refineries have been built in the U.S. in 30 years, give the EPA authority to expedite permits for refineries •Establish a competitive oil and gas leasing program for ANWR •Repeal the $4000 fee for new permit applications to drill. •Repeal the 2007 provision that reduces mineral leasing revenue payments to the states. •Repeal the moratorium on funds to encourage the commercial leasing of oil shale. Isn’t it time Congress came to its senses and voted for U.S. domestic energy production?

POPSHow McCain Can Win the Base Mr. Jindal, who was elected to Rep. David Vitter's seat when Mr. Vitter ran for U.S. Senate in 2004, was re-elected for a second term with 88% of the vote. That's not enough experience? It's as much experience in Congress as Barack Obama has to show for his three years. Oh, and by the way, Mr. Jindal, in his last term, had an American Conservative Union rating of 100, with 96 for both terms. In addition he has consistently taken the No New Taxes pledge proposed by Americans for Tax Reform. In 1991 he was a young Hill staffer working for Rep. Jim McCrery. One day Mr. McCrery asked him to look over some Medicare plans being proposed in committee. A couple of days later, he brought back to the boss a totally revised system that was so impressive that Mr. McCrery remembered him and in 1995 introduced him to Gov.-elect Murphy J. Foster Jr. Mr. Jindal, at the age of 24, was appointed secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals.

POPSUK in Disarray Over European Union (EU) The grand chessboard to world government is not easy, it produces great conflict. While the EU has managed to alter the currency of all of Europe to the Euro, and used economics to usurp the sovereignty of the independent countries, citizens of UK are justly resisting, throwing their Parliament and leadership into scrambling for what to do to bring conformity. An attempt at a EU Constitution failed. Good. This is what will happen in America as they attempt a North American Union, then American Union (hemispheric, north and south)--which Chavez is resisting. African Union is also in the works, while a "war on terrorism" is seeking to conform and transform the Middle East, Indonesia toward the same goal.

POPS Primary and Caucus System Runs Amok
The system has been made worse every four years since the early ’70s when primaries began to proliferate and party leaders in other states began plotting to minimize the early influence of Iowa and New Hampshire or actually supplant them by either moving their contests to try to get ahead of them or by urging the creation of “super” and regional primaries that might prove more “representative” than these states. None of these machinations have come close to working. Thus, the desire of many to limit the importance of the early states has, in fact, had the opposite effect. Giuliani's strategy called for the former New York City mayor to essentially ignore the voters of Iowa, New Hampshire, Michigan and South Carolina (to say nothing of Wyoming) and concentrate his forces in Florida and the early mega-primary to follow. Florida, where he had a more than 20 point lead just a couple of months ago, would provide a “fire wall” that would stop Romney, McCain or whoever else.............

POPSThe European Bogeyman Since 2000, employment has actually grown a bit faster in Europe than in the United States — and since Europe has a lower rate of population growth, this has translated into a substantial rise in the percentage of working-age Europeans with jobs, even as America’s employment-population ratio has declined. Meanwhile, Europe’s Internet lag is a thing of the past. The dial-up Internet of the 1990s was dominated by the United States. But as dial-up has given way to broadband, Europe has more than kept up. The number of broadband connections per 100 people in the 15 countries that were members of the European Union before it was enlarged in 2004, is slightly higher than in the U.S. — and Europe’s connections are both substantially faster and substantially cheaper than ours.

POPS"A Love Story" gone sour. "Our Best Friend in EU" GONE ??? "America, America: After a visit to Poland, veteran New York Times journalist Thomas Friedman approvingly quoted Michael Mandelbaum, a foreign affairs expert, who described it as "the most pro-American country in the world - including the US." "The Poles are especially grateful to the United States for its support of the Solidarity movement during the period of the communist regime, for its part in the toppling of the Berlin Wall, and for the co-option of Poland to NATO in 1999. "Schooled in humiliation, and having lost its independence time and again, Poland is today linking its security and its future to maintaining close ties with the world's only superpower." ...Haaretz Oct 21 2007

POPSHistory of the NAU Founding Fathers This article definitely has a right leaning spin on just who are the founding fathers of the NAU. The author fails to mention the large contingent of Bush "area experts" who are also involved, but this will provide more information about the history of our current situation.

POPSW's Protest Manual: Conservative Treason. The manual demonstrates "that the White House has a policy of excluding and/or attempting to squelch dissenting viewpoints from presidential events," said ACLU lawyer Jonathan Miller. "Individuals should have the right to express their opinion to the president, even if it's not a favorable one." "To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -- Theodore Roosevelt

POPSFear and Loathing in Middle America
More: Lucky for us, Bageant didn't hop on the next plane back west, and didn't chalk it all up to a terrible, misconstrued nostalgia. Instead, he stuck to his guns -- literally -- and tried to understand why people in his part of the country, people he genuinely loves despite his utter detestation of their politics, are so dyed-in-the-wool conservative that it'd take the Apocalypse to prize them away from supporting George W. Bush. "In the days before the spine of the labor movement was crushed, back when you could be a gun owner and a liberal without any conflict, members of the political left supported these workers, stood on the lines taking beatings at the plant gates alongside them," he argues. "Now there is practically no labor movement, and large numbers on the left are comfortably ensconced in the true middle class... From that vantage point, liberals currently view working whites as angry, warmongering bigots, happy pawns of the American empire -- which begs the questions

POPSFred Thompson and the 'Laziness' Issue "Central casting?" , Republican National Committee here, "Our first group of candidates are boring. Can you send someone over?" "Uhmm..... POPSPoland's "Jerry Falwell" bashes Tinky Winky as Being Gay And here I thought that only Jerry Falwell was nuts enough to accuse a puppet on a children's television show of spreading moral decay by being gay. Obviously I was naive. Now Poland's Children's rights watchdog comes out with the same nonsense all these years later. The whole world is going nuts, I tell ya.

POPSVoting Against One's Own Interests: An American Pastime The Log Cabin Republicans never cease to amaze me. This is the party that continuously votes against any form of gay rights. They overwhelmingly support an amendment banning same-sex marriage and civil unions and have shown themselves to be hypocrites on top of it all. And then I read in this piece that membership in the Log Cabin Republicans increased by 200% even after Bush came out in favour of that Constitutional amendment making gays second class citizens. Many of my Canadian friends have asked me how come people in the U.S. have such a history of voting against their own interests. Poor people, blacks, Jews, gays or any minority you can think of, voting Republican just makes no sense in the real world. I wonder what flavour kool- aid they are drinking?

POPSTop 10 Conservative Senators of 2006 Liz Dole in the top ten? Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the votes she casts, but she isn't really the pinnacle of passionately held conservatism, is she? Surprisingly absent: Sessions, Brownback, Kyl???

POPSAre People Finally Starting to Smarten Up When It Comes to Coulter? Three papers so far are dropping her, and I understand she is beginning to lose invitations to speak to certain groups. Could this be the beginning of the end for this sick-o? This is the same thing that happened to "Dr." Laura. She went from being the be all and end all of conservative talk on hundreds of radio stations, and was given her own TV show. Then, because of her gay slander and hate-speech, her column was dropped from many papers, her TV show canceled, and her radio show is heard on only a fraction of the stations it used to be on in her hey day. As the old saying goes....every do has his/her day.

POPSThe SPP, NAFTA & the North American Union. As the North American Union gets closer and closer to a reality, the media seems to be unconcerned...as many Americans do. Personally, I find it quite disturbing that our government officials are taking part in an unsigned (as the US claims) contract with Canada and Mexico.

POPSMeet The Press...a love affair to remember! What is so aggravating about the constant noise about the "Liberal Press", is that this administration has gotten its way with the press and it certainly has not been a "liberal" love affair. The press and media should have been doing its job instead of pandering to this administration. If it has done its job (ie Watergate), then we might not right now be trying to figure out how the hell to get out of Iraq, and stop the maiming and killing of our sons and daughters ,not to mention all the Iraqi civilians...and their sons and daughters. This mess has been a "pipe dream" of a few old neo-conservative men who basically wanted to relive Vietnam, and force a different outcome. Google Neoconservative, Google PNAC (Project For The New American Century} , and then think about whether or not this war was a war of choice and the same old story about old men, and war.

POPSIf Bush and Cheney are Impeached, Nancy Pelosi is next in line! Bill Barnstead authors this article exposing and comparing Nixon's demise to the current situation of George W. Bush. It is a most revealing and authoritative article covering the wars (Viet Nam & Iraq), the two presidencies, impeachment, and what we expected to get from Bush compared to what we really are getting. You have to read the entire article. It also lays out the crisis at the Mexican border.

POPSCato: Staying in Iraq 'Monumentally Bad Idea' Too bad it wasn't sooner, but Cato has been telling fellow conservatives what they don't want to hear for a while now. If you haven't read Cato's last quarterly letter, you should. Tucker Carlson managed to sit down long enough to write this straight-talking essay: The Decline and Fall of the Republican Party (PDF)
