Become a Bank Holding Company
LoPhatt
by LoPhatt  Yesterday 12:10 PM
Like them, I’ve got some bad loans out there, and I’m suffering from “market turbulence.” My nephew is into me for two grand on a college loan, and he can’t seem to get a job that doesn’t require a hair-net. Meanwhile, my bartender at the Chug-a-Lug will testify that I’m behind on my bar tabs because of the “unusual and exigent circumstances” roiling financial markets. That’s the very line that American Express used to get its snout into the public trough, so why not me?

by mobilemen  11-16-2008
superdeallist.com has the best tool to navigate the credit card jungle, and find the best reward card for our personal spending situation. There is no reason not to use a reward credit card. The savings could be very significant. And if we don’t,we’re effectively subsidize the ones who do use and get rewards.credit card companies make their money through merchant fee,and through interest charges if the balance isn’t paid off. They’re just taking portion of those money and giving back in the form of rewards,so we should take them.More best practices can be seen at superdeallist.com

Great for AEX but notta for it's borrowers getting all the benefits of US Government protection and virtually nothing given in return. I'd like to thank Mr. Paulson again for showing how much he cares about us who are burried in interest charges from companies like American Express. Thanks Henry.

Credit Cards: Who gets the rate increase?
Brian Wingfield
by Brian Wingfield  10-29-2008
That's the big question here. Also, doesn't this make it more difficult to pay? Seems to parallel the teaser rates on mortgage loans--when rates jumped, borrowers couldn't pay, exacerbating the problem.

As Economy Slows, Lenders Begin to Curb Credit Cards
jatfla
by jatfla  10-28-2008
It's about time!!!! Even after my parents "declared" bankruptcy after years of using them for medical, motor vehicle, what they considered necessities....my Mom is still receiving offers from Credit Card companies. Stop it!!! The elderly and the 20-40+ use these things like there is no tomorrow. Well, tomorrow has come. While the card-holders have a responsibility to pay their debts, so do those who *throw* cards at an irresponsible market bear major responsibility for their practices.

Obama Joined Democratic Socialist Party In 1995
merrie
by merrie  10-9-2008    10
...the NP's '96 Political Program has been enormously successful with 3 of 4 endorsed candidates winning electoral primaries. All four candidates attended the NP membership meeting on April 11th to express their gratitude... Barack Obama, victor in the 13th State Senate District, encouraged NPers to join in his task forces on Voter Education and Voter Registration. Obama is not simply an ultra-liberal. He is a Marxist. He campaigned on the Socialist ticket, signed the Socialist contract, and attended Socialist meetings. I'll ask it again: just who in the hell is Barack Obama? And who sent him? Update: American Thinker, Gateway Pundit, Newsbusters and Jammie Wearing Fool have more. Original DSA newsletters: #47 and #42. Linked by: Ace o' Spades. Thanks!

John McCain's Terrorist Ties
zizzy
by zizzy  10-7-2008
Liddy also said he should have recommended shots to the groin instead of the head. If that wasn't enough to inflame any nut cases, he mentioned labeling targets "Bill" and "Hillary" when he practiced shooting. Given Liddy's record, it's hard to see why McCain would touch him with a 10-foot pole. On the contrary, he should be returning his donations and shunning his show. Yet the senator shows no qualms about associating with Liddy -- or celebrating his service to their common cause. How does McCain explain his howling hypocrisy on the subject? He doesn't. I made repeated inquiries to his campaign aides, which they refused to acknowledge, much less answer. On this topic, the pilot of the Straight Talk Express would rather stay parked in the garage. That's an odd policy for someone who is so forthright about his rival's responsibility. McCain thinks Obama should apologize for associating with a criminal extremist. To which Obama might reply: After you.

Budgeting Time?
Maureen Farrell
by Maureen Farrell  10-3-2008
Times' "Your Money" Ron Lieber suggests we skip the dreaded "B" word and try out a free web site to sort expenses. A good idea for small businesses owners and everyone. Why not take control over the things we can control like discretionary spending? Most small business owners fund at least some of the business with personal savings. Might be time to keep an even closer eye on the personal budget.

Rolling Over to Rescue the Bailout
katsteevns
by katsteevns  9-30-2008    1
contAll of cable and the networks are rolling over for their bellies to be scratched, helping the dodge that the bailout supporters were not really asking for a bailout, only a rescue. See? There was a great deal of hyperventilating last night on most of the talkies and news, sort of an "Oh No! What have we done!" chorus: We misnamed the rescue a bailout. Missing from this steady stream of thumb-sucking was any mention of the substantive reasons voters were outraged. What precisely was in the bailout bill for taxpayers, homeowners, renters? Was there any real cap on the greedy executive compensation packages? Investment in job creation? Rescue for homeowners in foreclosure? Along with the Oh No What Have We Done is the mantra of The Great Credit Freeze: small businesses won't be able to meet payroll; 401k and pension funds are cascading in value; there may not even be money in the ATM machine. The media herd, incredulous that its losing supporters of the bailout, is re-tool

Fed and Treasury Bailout Includes Foreign Banks
blueridge
by blueridge  9-21-2008    1
Yep, tax dollars for foreign banks. They call it a "distinction without a difference to the American people". Welcome to global government rising, led by the so-called Federal Reserve--which is about as "federal" as Federal Express. They are in fact a consortium of privately held international banksters, linked primarily to England. The financial consolidation of power now is beginning upon an economic 9/11 under the plea of "necessity", as usual: Officials expect passage by huge margins in both chambers because Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke have told congressional leaders the country’s financial stability depends on it. Those who print the money, make the rules.

New hyperspace engine could roundtrip Mars in 5 hours
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  8-31-2008    5
The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics awards prizes for the best papers presented each year. Last year’s winner went to a paper authored by physicist Jochem Hauser, calling for experimental tests of Heim’s theory. “This hyperdrive motor,” Hauser said, “would propel a craft through another dimension at enormous speeds. It could reach a star eleven light years away in just eighty days.”
