 • The Amish are relocated en masse to unelectrified penal colonies in Alaska because they refuse to pledge allegiance to anyone but God; they fail to accept that Obama is God. Unlike other deportations, this one saves the People's State money because the Amish are pacifists. Their formerly productive farmland is redistributed to ACORN staff and people George Soros likes (until he quits liking them; people do not think about what happens after that). Results similar to those in Zimbabwe fail to be reported in the state media. • The Amish are joined by those Rastas too stoned to fight back, although some Rastas merely remain under state suspicion after conceding that, as per Bob Marley, "the Almighty God is a living man" refers not to Haile Selassie but Barry Obama. • The Red Cross becomes the Red Circle (aka the Red 'O') and blood donations become mandatory. Those without recent donations are denied bread rations. . Mandated "volunteer" camps teach youth educational value of

The Next Financial Bailout Bill Will Not Work
blueridge
by blueridge  10-1-2008    1
The truth is often so politically-incorrect. You will note that this was published in the UK, not in a US newspaper, and certainly not from the MSM. In other words get ready for a second hard sell since the first bailout bill was rejected (due to pressure from average citizens). Bush will bully-pulpit, Pelosi and Ried will scream again, and even republicans will line up, both Obama and McCain will push the same pitch and try to get wary Americans to sign on the bottom line. But the plan would not work. He says this is why bank stocks, not just investment firms are falling too: traditional banking – collecting retail deposits and making loans to ordinary customers – is barely profitable. Compared with the potential gains from a day at the currency-swap races, or a night in the derivatives casino, current accounts are cold potatoes. That is why bonus-hungry executives, at what we used to think of as boring banks, were so keen to spin the red-hot wheel of fortune. [/quo

Al-Qaeda breeding ground in Pakistan
tommy2balmy

no international relief agency (United Nations, Red Cross, etc) is in sight. Some efforts made by the local government have also run aground by rampant corruption and lack of will to acknowledge the plight of these people at the highest government level. Worst of all, neither the Pakistan or American army, whose bombs have displaced thousands of children, women and old men, fail to acknowledge the consequences of their actions. To them the matter is closed and is not worth discussing. Let us write to our senators, congressmen, our national and provincial assembly members, our presidents and prime ministers and ask them one question. “We can authorize billions of dollars for the bombardment of the region, but can we also authorize a few bucks for the betterment of the local people?” I have said it before, and I will repeat again, “No amount of bombing can win the hearts and minds of the disgruntled populace.”

interactive guide: Who in the Bush administration broke the law, and who could be prosecuted
papananook
by papananook  7-24-2008
Each scandal is represented by a colored circle that encompasses the people who are implicated. As it's easy to see, many of the players here are mixed up in two, three, or more of the alleged crimes. Hence all the overlapping circles (Venn-diagram heaven!). The best way to make sense of this legal tangle is to mouse over the title of an individual scandal, which will highlight everyone implicated. For example, the wiretapping bubble ensnares George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, David Addington, John Ashcroft, John Yoo, and Alberto Gonzales. At the same time, Ashcroft and Gonzales fall into the overlapping circle for monkey business related to DoJ hiring. Mouse over a person's name for information on how each person is involved. Mouse over the title of each circle for specifics about the particular scandal. And if all else fails, fall back on this golden rule of wrongdoing in the White House: All roads lead to Gonzales.

Lwalessness In USA- Red Cross and Others...
klippety
by klippety  7-12-2008
Lawlessness as the American way. No accountability, only protection of those who break the laws with a spineless democratic leadership paving the way. There is no turning back now. We are hopelessly sunk in the swamp of right wing garbage. They have tried for 100 years and finally succeeded. We have no more justice.

Official: 4 Dead After Twister Tears Through Scout camp
merrie
by merrie  6-12-2008
Bauwens, the Red Cross nurse, said many of the injuries happened when a brick fireplace in one shelter was ripped apart by the storm. The shelter was one of four where scouts had run for cover. The National Weather Service was referring to the event as a tornado by late Wednesday. It said it received a report of a touchdown at 6:35 p.m. Officials at Burgess Memorial Hospital, about 20 miles from the ranch, said they had treated several patients injured by the storm Wednesday night and that injuries ranged from minor to serious. A spokesman for Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City said two children had arrived at the hospital by helicopter. "These are traumatic injuries," said spokesman Mike Krysl, who said the regional trauma center is "in disaster mode." Heavy downpours hit the region over the weekend, with more thunderstorms predicted for Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Americans in WW1: B&W pics
righthand
by righthand  2-12-2008
"Of the approximately 115,000 American dead in the Great War, only about 52,000 died of battlefield wounds. More than 200,000 became more or less seriously wounded. Some 60,000 soldiers and sailors died of disease, mainly the complications of the global pandemic flue (influenza). During the war over 4,355,000 American men and women served in the armed forces. At the end of the war 1,950,000 Americans were actually fighting in France and Flanders. One in five was foreign-born and one in four was functionally illiterate."

Lessons From Katrina Being Applied To Fire Response
merrie
by merrie  10-24-2007
Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Tuesday that lessons learned from Hurricane Katrina will be used in the federal government's response to wildfires in Southern California. "I think there's no question that a couple of the lessons from Katrina which we have put into effect here," Chertoff said. "First of all, planning and preparation in advance for these kinds of challenges, so that we have worked together and planned together with the Defense Department and with state authorities well in advance of the crisis. That's been a big help here," Chertoff said before boarding a California-bound Coast Guard jet with Federal Emergency Management Agency Director David Paulison; Mark Everson, president and CEO of the American Red Cross; and Matt Bettenhausen, homeland security adviser to California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger

History Will Not Absolve Us: Leaked Red Cross report sets up Bush team for international war-crimes
sahara
by sahara  10-1-2007    5
No matter how you feel about the current administration, we all should hope and pray this does not happen. The best case scenario would be for us to denounce the actions through either impeachment or at the least, censure. If not, it will not merely be the administration being tried, it will be the US as a whole for going along with it, not doing anything!
