POPSCodex Sinaiticus While it is fabulous to be able to get news in a second and wonderful to view online albums of photos from friends, one of the best parts of the Internet and its functionality is getting access to materials to which ordinary people would never have access. The project to digitize the Codex Sinaiticus has been several years in the making and it is finally coming online this week. While most people won’t be able to read the ancient text, having access and being able to puzzle over the words yourself without an intermediary provides the opportunity to translate the Bible yourself and make your own interpretation.

POPSWas the Sistine Ceiling a Papal Insult? look at the shape that frames God, and the flowing fabric that falls down from it do you actually see a spinal cord? "Now, what's interesting is in Kabbalah we have different kinds of wisdom," said Doliner. "The right side of the human brain in Kabbalah means wisdom chokhma." And God is appearing from the right side of the brain in that fresco. How about the fresco of Adam, Eve and the serpent in the garden? Most depictions of the Garden of Eden show an apple tree, but not on the Sistine ceiling. As in an ancient Jewish tradition, the tree is a fig tree. Blech finds it another hidden message. "I think this is one of these powerful proofs, that not only did Michelangelo know Jewish texts, but he felt it important to incorporate the ideas of these texts into some of these frescoes."

Ever wonder about hieroglyphic, the inscription on Egyptian monuments as well as a variety of written texts on papyrus. n 313 BC. Alexander the Great invaded Egypt. His legacy was carried on by his general Ptolemeus and his successors in Egypt. That legacy, simply stated, was to have a universal culture. Such culture would of course be the Greek or Hellenistic one. With the culture comes the language, so it became the proper way for the educated classes to learn Greek and encourage their children to learn it for the economical as well as the social advantages. In script, the Greek was far superior to the Demotic, the last surviving Egyptian script at the time. It offered 24 characters all pronounceable as opposed to over 400 symbols that only a small percentage represented sounds and the rest were ideograms. The Greeks learned their writing system from the Egyptians through the frequent travelers of the ancient world, the Phoenicians. In the course of their commercial dealings with

POPSGospel of Judas - 2 I was asked to watch the National Geographic movie; I did and found this web site. I think the Gospel of Judas reveals how an ancient text in very bad shape (15% is missing ) still has the ability to say something authoritative to this age. Although 15 out of every 100 words are not there the Gospel of Judas… suggests new insights into the disciple who betrayed Jesus. strengthens the claim that there was a Jesus, disciples, a Judas, authorities, an arrest, a crucifixion, etc. affirms the Gnostic teaching that the body is evil, the spirit good and that the spirit is locked up in the prison of the body. All of these assertions we are to believe based on a text written hundreds of years after the fact. Could this line of reasoning apply to other Gospel accounts like Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John for instance? What National Geographic would have us believe is… that we can learn something substantial from corrupt texts that we can learn someth
