Why does SEX bother the same people who seems so at ease with KILLING people? What is going on here??? Sex between two consenting adults who care deeply for each other is a beautiful, wonderful, and awesome thing. And sexual orientation is fixed and CANNOT be changed through prayer or counseling, and it's NOT a matter of choice. Why do some people want to interpret the question of immorality with reference to themselves as far as sexual orientation is concerned?

The life-giving power of literature
tidbit2
by tidbit2  2-1-2008    13
I used to get bored out of my brain before I started reading I could never latch on to it to easily till I found words of wisdom and writing that could be applied to life also learning about the outside world/universe through factual writing like national geographic and the guardian newspaper has really opened a lot of doors for life, conversation, enjoyment and distraction reading offered answers to the meaning of life and the universe which had seriously distressed me beforehand the quote from volataire sums it up: Despite the enormous quantity of books, how few people read! And if one reads profitably, one would realize how much stupid stuff the vulgar herd is content to swallow every day." — Voltaire this is particulary true in the days of crappy prime time tv shows and hyped up media I also read somewhere about the calming effect good reading material promoting creative thought can have on ones nerves which I found very true oh and the source goodreads is awesome che

My Space Profile
sahara
by sahara  10-9-2007    1
A Note about My Age: Despite what the profile here on the MySpace says about me, I'm a good deal older than 99. Actually I am nearly 800. MySpace just won't let me enter a birthday from the thirteenth century. I've seen a lot happen - the invention and spread of constitutional democracy has been extremely encouraging. And though it may seem trivial to you, the idea of a machine that can make ice is really quite a marvel. Civilization has advanced well beyond what the men who wrote the Magna Carta could have imagined. But the principles they started with are as important as ever and, I hope, as enduring. With your help, I'll still have "My Space" in the Constitution 99 years from today. Habeas

Rolling Back The Clock?
DizzyDezzi
by DizzyDezzi  11-25-2006    2
There is something creepy about parents trying to ban a book that has been part of a school's curriculum for more than a decade; a book by one of this country's most prolific authors. I have to wonder if it's just the "rape" scene that these people have issue with or "something else"? But I won't go there. If they had actually read the book (which most censors do not, they usually just read the cliff-notes or have someone else tell them about it; they rarely, if ever actually read it for their own edification, to verify whether or not the book certainly is or is not for their young adult) they would see that the book is an eye, not just on one person, one young woman, but is a reflection on American History (which ACTUALLY might be the issue these parents have with the book). I didn't read the book until I was an adult, but I wished that I had read it as a youth, it probably wouldn't have helped me form in much more positive and profound ways than I turned out.
