POPSPakistans terrorist war, and ours. Why is it that the Australian media has a fuller coverage of the ongoing anti-terrorist war than Britain. Is there a reluctance to remind the immigrant population that their leaders in the Himalayas want to destroy everything English speaking nations have created? For those who did not see the Nu Lieber Party conference, a sizeable part of the audience hold more affiliation to the Third World then they do to the Ancient Anglo Saxon society upon which there appears an attempt to destroy. Is this observation isolated?

POPSSocial welfare programs do not keep a country from prosperity
The Nordic states have also worked to keep social expenditures compatible with an open, competitive, market-based economic system. Tax rates on capital are relatively low. Labor market policies pay low-skilled and otherwise difficult-to-employ individuals to work in the service sector, in key quality-of-life areas such as child care, health, and support for the elderly and disabled. The results for the households at the bottom of the income distribution are astoundingly good, especially in contrast to...American social policy. The U.S. spends less than almost all rich countries on social services for the poor and disabled, and it gets what it pays for: the highest poverty rate among the rich countries and an exploding prison population. Actually, by shunning public spending on health, the U.S. gets much less than it pays for, because its dependence on private health care has led to a ramshackle system that yields mediocre results at very high costs.

POPSJohn Cecil Rhodes: Worse than Hitler Yet this is the man highly revered by Western society ... which shows its true colors. John Cecil Rhodes racism and accompanying genocide, slavery and theft would have made Hitler blush.

POPSChina's Century Can western democracy survive long enough to serve as an example to the next generation of Asian leaders? Or will liberal social and economic policies so cripple or society that we end up representing what they want to avoid becoming?

POPSOnline advertising poised to grow through recession A couple of very interesting figures regarding the resistance expected of the online advertising business in the forthcoming recession. I tend to believe the recession will actually amplify the shift of budgets from traditional forms to new forms of of marketing.

POPSFaking It (with books) To what end? Bayard finally reveals his diabolical intent: he claims that talking about books you haven’t read is “an authentic creative activity.” As a teacher of literature, he seems to believe that his ultimate goal is to encourage creativity. “All education,” he writes, “should strive to help those receiving it to gain enough freedom in relation to works of art to themselves become writers and artists.”

POPSTurkish Parliament approves Iraq offensive The vote was 507-19 They stressed the offensive against the PKK or Kurdish resistance, would not start immediately, and would proceed over a one year time period. President Bush said ":We don't think it's in their interests to send more troops in" Turkey already has troops stationed in Iraq. Oh yeah, their country is just a few miles north of the Real terrorism. So now he runs Turkey, but beside that, with all of the statistics and calls for help the U.S. Admin has issued with regard to help with the war in Iraq, the Turkish Govt's aim seems the same as the Iraqi's, to "Halt the terrorist activities of the PKK in Iraq," I don't know why the Turkish action won't achieve the same as that of the US. Perhaps the type help requested by the US is too specific. Bush wants WASPs (White Anglo Saxon Protestants), with a few notable Minority figures in charge.

POPSHalloween - From Celtic Samhain Eve There is a Japanese holiday, Urabon, that is similar to Halloween in some ways. Most of the Christian holidays coincide with the ancient or pagan holidays. "In many cases, this was the result of an attempt on the part of religious leaders to facilitate the transition of the people to the new religion: Rather than attempt to enforce a prohibition of the popular older beliefs, they scheduled their new holidays for the same time, and incorporated many of the traditional customs." This is a good article about several holidays and their origins.
