POPSBerkeley College:Arabs Attack Jewish Students
Husam Zakharia, who also attacked one of the performers, Yehuda De Sa. The fight was finally broken up by John Moghtader, a senator in the UC Berkelely student organization. Police were called in and arrested Zakharia along with others from his group, charging them with battery. Witnesses said that the Arab students shouted anti-Semitic curses and epithets throughout the incident, calling the Jews “Nazis” and “dogs,” and threatening to kill them. According to one witness, as many as 20 anti-Israel students participated in the attacks. In a statement, the Zionist Freedom Alliance said “we call on state officials, the President of the University of California, the Chancellor, the Dean of Students, faculty, and the student body to take a unified stand against the continued harassment of Jewish and pro-Israel students on this campus, particularly by members of Students for Justice in Palestine,” the anti-Israel group whose leaders began the incitement and attacked the concert goers.

I agreed, provided that he credit me and/or mention my name and site in the article, to which he agreed. We spoke on the phone at some length. In April, Wallsten wrote the story. Portions of it were lifted from my article. But I was never credited, contrary to Wallsten's promise. Even the Politico said Wallsten plagiarized me. I'm almost positive that the video Wallsten referenced in the story was obtained from Arab American Action Network founder Abunimah because my article--the one Wallsten ripped off from me--featured photos of Barack Obama and wife Michelle seated with PLO advisor Edward Said at another AAAN annual banquet and led Wallsten to contact Abunimah. I noted in my article--from which Wallsten got most of his info--that the pics were from Ali Abunimah's Electronic Intifada site, in which he wrote about Obama's 180 on Israel from those days of AAAN dinners and PLO confabs.

POPSIsrael's Gaza Blockade is "Collective Punishment" This situation is frustrating and insane. Collective punishment is illegal under all international law, and yet whenever anyone confronts the Israeli government with this fact, they are accused of being anti-Israel and/or an anti-Semite. As a Jew, I am very proud of all Israel has accomplished, and I yearn to see that tiny country live in peace with its neighbours. I do not fault Israel entirely for the situation that exists between them and the Palestinians. There is much fault and provocation to be found on both sides. While it is true that Hamas attacks Israeli towns with rockets, which must be stopped, there are constant attacks against Palestinians by Jewish settlers. And the story goes on and on. But collectively punishing an entire nation of people because of the actions of a few is quite simply, inhumane, and the world should condemn these actions by the Israeli government.

The Government permits but does not require religious instruction in public schools. Under the terms of the Constitution, the Department of Education must and does provide equal funding to schools of different religious denominations, including Islamic and Jewish schools. Although religious instruction is an integral part of the curriculum, parents may exempt their children from such instruction. On July 20, 2006, unknown persons painted anti-Semitic graffiti on the exterior wall of an office building during the conflict involving Israel and Hezbollah. The police promptly removed the graffiti but never identified those responsible for it. The Israeli embassy in Dublin received anti-Semitic and anti-Israel phone calls that expressed outrage at Israel's actions during the conflict with Lebanon.

POPSI Watch Al Jazeera English....Do You? It is virtually impossible to subscribe to the new Al Jazeera in the U.S or Canada. Many people in these countries, when they hear the words Al Jazeera, they immediately think of an Arab news channel that takes the side of terrorists in their reporting, and support Osama Bin Laden. They believe it spews anti-American and anti-Israel rhetoric 24/7. But I subscribe to it via Jump TV online, and it is absolutely nothing at all like that. Al Jazeera has some of the best electronic and newspaper journalists in the world working for them. Their production values are A+ and the news, although presented from a different perspective, is in no way anti-American or anti-Israel, and treats all reports in a reasonable even-handed manner. I urge people to go to www.jumptv.com and give Al Jazeera English a try. I think you will find your horizons expanding just a bit more.

I had never spoken of that conversation publicly -- until I read last week that he had canceled a talk at a London university, citing what he called “a widespread anti-Israel and anti-Semitic current in British opinion.” Weinberg and I are both employed at the University of Texas at Austin. He’s one of the university’s most celebrated faculty members, a highly touted Nobel laureate in physics, a professor who is often spotlighted by administrators to bolster UT’s claim to being a “world-class” university. I’m a professor of journalism who is, to say the least, not quite as accomplished or celebrated."

POPSAN Excellent Article Debunking the Muth of the "New Anti-Semitism As a Jewish man who spends a great deal of his time writing about and promoting Jewish culture, lifestyle and politics on the Web, I have become particularly incensed by the attempt of AIPAC and other right-wing lobbyist of branding anyone who criticizes Israel as being anti-Semitic and anti-Israel. It is a false allegation that is doing great harm to the Jewish community.

I clipped this article as an appalling example of the kind of extremist rhetoric that is being perpetuated by some right-wing political groups. Calling Carter an anti-Semite because of the title of his new book, and do not be fooled, the vitriol is based mostly on the use of the word "Apartheid" in the title, is totally dishonorable and disgusting. Now, trying to tag Wesley Clark as being anti-Semitic, and using his friendship with President Carter as a prime example of his anti-Semitism in a new low in all of this crap. As the editor of an online magazine promoting Jewish culture and lifestyle on the Web, I have no use for people who use criticism of Israel as a determining factor of a person's overall feelings about Jews. It is due to the efforts of AIPAC and other right-wing organizations that American Jews especially are being led to believe that only someone who is anti-Semitic would ever criticize Israel. I for one criticize Israel at times, and I am no anti-Semite.
