POPSObama Speechwriter Switches to McCain
One day after a hearing on Darfur, we were walking back to the office. I was still hobbling from a very bad ankle injury and in a very kind and gentle way he offered his arm when we approached the stairs. But later in debate preps and phone conversations and meetings, I realized that I had made a mistake. I didn’t belong. No matter how hard I tried, my heart wasn’t in it anymore. ...The final straw came the other week when Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher (a.k.a Joe the Plumber) asked a question about higher taxes for small businesses. Instead of celebrating his aspirations, they were mocked. He wasn’t “a real plumber,” and “They’re fighting for Joe the Hedge-Fund manager." Having worked in politics, I know that absolutely none of this is on the level. This back and forth is posturing, a charade, and a political game. These lines are what I refer to as “hooker lines”—a sure thing to get applause and the press to scribble as if they’re reporting meaningful news.

POPSSpreading the wealth? US already does it the gap between rich and poor Americans has grown markedly in recent years as middle-class wages remained largely stagnant while corporate profits and high-earners' salaries soared. McCain, like President Bush, wants to "give more and more to those with the most, and hope prosperity trickles down to everyone else." The RNC is counting on us being ignorant enough to vote against our own interests, and why shouldn't they? It's been working for a long time.

POPSJon Stewart to Sarah Palin: "[Expletive] You." Jonathan Leibowitz....such a small man; in mentality and vocabulary. FTA: "The media has devoted hundreds of stories of late to the tenor of audience comments at McCain-Palin rallies, fretting about "rage" and "incitement" by the campaign, but the only account of Stewart's appearance is a one-sentence mention in the Boston Globe, and his abusive Palin comments are not included." I guess his Moma would be so proud.

POPSImpeached Federal Judge Alcee Hastings' Stupid Rant
Hastings, who is African-American, was explaining what he intended to tell his Jewish constituents about the presidential race. “Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks. So, you just think this through,” Hastings added as the room erupted in laughter and applause. Let's face it. There is no way a Republican could say anything this foul and still have a career. Then again... There aren't any impeached Republican judges currently serving in the US House. The New Editor has more on this disgusting attack on Sarah Palin by a Democratic leader. To Florida Democrat Rep. Alcee Hastings, people who own guns and hunt apparently hate Jews and Blacks. Seriously. And 'enlightened' people who hear a politician say this react by laughing and cheering. POPS It's A Party! -- Kinda' [& NO Applause for Ahmadinejad] While the United States and Israel left their ambassadorial seats empty, here is the Jew-hatred greeted by enthusiasm at today’s U.N. In its entire history, the United Nations General Assembly has never adopted a resolution dedicated to denouncing and combating the scourge of antisemitism in all its forms. Now we know why. Less than half of U.N. members are fully free democracies and among them there is no consensus that discrimination and demonization of Jews and the Jewish state is wrong. On the contrary, at the U.N. vicious antisemitism is met by a round of applause. — Anne Bayefsky is a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute and at Touro College. POPSThe moral collapse of the Republican Party "For Republicans, there is no longer any moral taboo whatsoever against lying outright... So what of it, if offshore drilling will not reduce gas prices. It's fine to say it anyway...So what of it, if Sarah Palin says crooked things with a straight face? Name me one Republican who will object....you would be hard pressed to find even a single, lone Republican in Washington willing to buck the moral collapse of their own party... To hell with facts, there is another election to be won

POPSHeard on the Hill: Rollcall News: Senator Chris Matthews? Saying What Holly-wouldn’t. Sunday’s screening of the Hollywood-goes-conservative film “An American Carol” brought out some of the movie’s principals, including Kevin Farley (brother of the late “Saturday Night Live” funnyman Chris Farley), Jon Voight and producer David Zucker, for some conservative laughs. Actor and outspoken Republican Kelsey Grammer, who plays Gen. George Patton in the film, appeared in a video to address the crowd. Grammer, who recently had a heart attack, got applause from the audience when he told them that “against doctor’s orders, I watched a little of the coronation coverage. I mean convention coverage,” referring to the Democrats’ Denver confab in which they named Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) their main man.

POPSPennsylvania Gov. Rendell: Obama Coverage Was "Embarrassing" At that point, PBS's Judy Woodruff, who was moderating the moderators event, said: "Why don’t we let Governor Rendell sit down." That was met with applause from the crowd of big-time media figures, which included Arianna Huffington, Gwen Ifill, Al Hunt, and Chuck Todd. Woodruff allowed Brokaw to respond, and in defending the network, he said that Matthews and Keith Olbermann are "not the only voices" on MSNBC.
