GOP Sen.: Electoral Rout McCain's Fault
Wisco
by Wisco  11-16-2008    1
Am I the only one who sees that freedom and "religious-based values" are often contradictory? After all, the Taliban has "religious-based values." DeMint in his own words: McCain, who is proponent of campaign finance reform that weakened party organizations and basically put George Soros in the driver's seat. His proposal for amnesty for illegals. His support of global warming, cap-and-trade programs that will put another burden on our economy. And of course, his embrace of the bailout right before the election was probably the nail in our coffin this last election. And he has been an opponent of drilling in ANWR, at a time when energy is so important. It really didn't fit the label, but he was our package. I totally called this . DeMint -- and a lot of GOPers -- believe they lost because they weren't crazy enough. Good news for Democrats in future elections.

Obama's thinking Clinton or Richardson for Sec. of State

I had not thought of Clinton for this position, but it is not an implausible choice. I would like to see Richardson as Sec. of State -- He has the credentials to go meet with foreign leaders of all stripes to get things done diplomatically.

Prop 8: not a sign of the future, but the "last gasp of a fringe movement"
Lexica
by Lexica  11-13-2008    1
More: On the front page of the New York Times today, reporters Jesse McKinley and Laurie Goodstein assert that the success of anti-gay marriage iniatives in California, Arizona and Florida has “ignited a debate about whether the movement to expand the rights of same-sex couples had hit a cultural brick wall.” That, frankly, is ridiculous. Here's why: … Therefore, this week’s victories for the religious right in California, Arizona and Florida are really the last gasp of a fringe movement trying to forestall the inevitable, rather than proof of a new “cultural brick wall.”

Rep. Jon Kyl vows to filibuster Obama's possible Supreme Court nominees

"Kyl said if Obama goes with empathetic judges who do not base their decisions on the rule of law and legal precedents but instead the factors in each case, he would try to block those picks via filibuster." I guess this idiot has never heard of making decisions on a "case by case" basis.

Google Follows Flu Trends by your Key Stroaks
glennbah
by glennbah  11-12-2008
There is a new common symptom of the flu, in addition to the usual aches, coughs, fevers and sore throats. Turns out a lot of ailing Americans enter phrases like “flu symptoms” into Google and other search engines before they call their doctors. That simple act, multiplied across millions of keyboards in homes around the country, has given rise to a new early warning system for fast-spreading flu outbreaks, called Google Flu Trends.

2010 Senate Map May Not Be Much Better for the GOP
dulios
by dulios  11-8-2008    1
And given Democratic gains in Ohio in 2006 and 2008, the party will almost surely try to knock off Sen. George Voinovich (R) in 2010. Republicans could have another seat to defend in Arizona if Sen. John McCain (R) chooses to retire in 2010. Popular Gov. Janet Napolitano (D), who is term limited, is said to be interested in running for the seat, especially if McCain retires. Another object of retirement rumors, Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), who will be 80 in two years, has announced he will run for re-election. Democrats could try to take Sen. Kit Bond’s (R) seat in 2010. Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan (D) would clear the Democratic field and give Bond a run for his money. Bond, too, could choose to retire. He will be 71 in 2010. Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) won his first term by a single point margin, making him a likely target for Democrats in 2010.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's War On The Leftist Media
merrie
by merrie  11-7-2008    1
The Republic used to be a middle of the road newspaper until Keven Willey became editorial page editor in 1998. Under her lead, the paper took a hard turn to the left. Willey left in 2002 to become editorial page editor of the Dallas Morning News. That newspaper has had a steep decline in circulation throughout Willey's tenure, most recently decreasing 11.7% since 2007. At the same time the Republic began declining, a right-leaning blog called espressopundit.com emerged and devoted considerable coverage to the Republic's demise. Blog owner Greg Patterson had access to inside information, revealing in advance layoffs and other shakeups at the paper, accompanied by photographs of a sinking ship.

Big Religion won yesterday in California. After spending $74 million they had the dubious distinction of stripping a minority of the right to get married. Californians have nothing to be proud of in this bigoted piece of legislation.
