POPS$3,589 Worth of Elephant Shaped Chocolates When money is no object... -$20,000 simply on items classified as "event-donor gifts." -$9,000 at a jewelry and political paraphernalia shop in Washington D.C. -$6,000 to an art restoration company in Kensington, Maryland -$4,249.07 At Lands End -$955 On Golf Carts ...is this a sampling of McCain's idea of "fiscal responsibility" ? Seriously. This is how they are spending other people's money now, what does it tell you?

POPSIn defence of plastic "New plastics that change from liquid to solid on impact are finding applications in protective clothing and plastic products are being developed using the principles of nature - an area of research called biomimetics. So plastic can be valuable and can be used for functions where it needs to last for a considerable length of time. Concepts of green design should now be applied to all new plastics products so that disposable items, such as plastic packaging and throwaway consumer items, biodegrade and do not fill landfill sites or litter the landscape or seas"

POPSBelltown: a daylight visit to Seattle's Haven of Hip Okay, nothing to do with affordable housing, but Belltown is the coolest neighborhood in any city I've ever been in. If you're ever in the Emerald City, swing uptown and dine at either Mama's Mexican Kitchen or the Noodle Ranch.

POPSDeco Print Embellished Tunic I've been noticing a quiet resurgence of Art Deco themes in plus size clothing - is there some revival or big anniversary coming? I want to see this on a live person; it's either fabulous, or a horror.

POPSA scarf made to look like bacon! What a great idea! Made of "21.5 micron merino wool" for that luxurious, bacon-on-skin feeling. Unfortunately it's sold out. The creator's comments: "It looks like a real slice of bacon, with all the striations of fat and meat.... Seriously, do a search on 'bacon scarf' and look at the other bacon scarves out there. They use a paltry two colors, and they don’t look as realistic as this!" Wow... The stuff you find on Twitter...

Change in the Conservative Personality Equals Change in the Offender with a Resultant Reduction in Recidivism by Michael D. Parsons and Jennifer G. Parsons Abstract Offenders have many of the characteristics of the conservative personality as defined by Adorno, Collins, Wilson, and Boshier. The characteristics of the conservative personality limit change necessary for rehabilitation. Until that personality is modified, it is very difficult to reduce recidivism. Modification of the conservative personality through education and environment can lead to change in the offender’s behavior. Is it possible to reduce violence by the criminal offender during incarceration? This paper presents the basis for a model which deals with certain offenders through an educational effort to modify some of their negative characteristics which include violence. The model in this paper is based on the concept of a conservative/authoritarian personality as it is found in offenders. The concept of t

POPSArt/Pop Nerds of the World Unite: the Music of Stephin Merritt Okay, it may make me a culture snob or a geek, but I've got to admit, I wear brown, and I loved "69 Love Songs." And from the looks of this photo, Stephin Merritt has stolen my appartment. Still, great to see him getting some press. I recommend his music to everybody. On a deeper, more disturbing level, the fact that he wears the same clothes as I do, has the same apartment as I do, and seems to listen to the same music as I do makes me suddenly insecure about the uniqueness of my identity! I guess I'm different, just like everyone else. :P

POPSSound Art Concert in Second Life That concept is anathema to the listening rules of classical music, where the music is understood as the sum of its movements. The audience at a traditional concert has a static relationship to sound. They quietly sit for a discrete amount of time, immersed in a bath of sound waves, as physically passive receivers of music. Sound art is not quite so static, and this is why the Philharmonic’s performance was more installation than classical performance. During the Second Life concert, avatars listened while removing their clothing, gyrating in the aisles, conversing with other concert-goers, or reading newspapers. As in all installation art, part of the point for the Second Life show was that the audience and its antics were an integral part of the performance, changing the way that the music was heard and experienced.

POPSWho Rules America? And Why Do They Hide? Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Too many politicians and so called religious leaders are wearing a MASK of piety. Beware wolves in sheeps clothing... there are forces they SERVE that is not nation or God. And man cannot have two masters.
