POPSForkd: save, adapt, modify recipes From the "About Forkd" page: 1. We don't believe in One True Recipe for anything. Rather than pretending that anyone could ever make, say, the Ultimate Lasagna, we were more interested in encouraging as many versions as possible. We find it fascinating the way that recipes change over time, in different hands. 2. When you like a recipe, you make it yours. All recipes on Forkd have an Attribution Sharealike licence. While we believe in always acknowledging influences (this happens automatically), when you fork someone else's recipe, it becomes yours to change in any way you wish. It's like you cut it out and stuck it into your recipe file.

POPSRussians Defy Cease-Fire: Troops In Georgia Digging In
Elsewhere in Georgia, it appeared very clear that Russian troops were staying put, building ramparts around tanks and posting sentries on a hill near Igoeti, a central Georgia town only 30 miles (50 kilometers) west of Tbilisi. Russian troops still effectively control the main artery running through the western half of Georgia because they surround the strategic central city of Gori and additionally the city and air base of Senaki in the west. Both cities are on the main east-west highway that slices through two Georgian mountain ranges. Russia also confirmed Sunday that it had taken over a major power plant in western Georgia. Rice noted that the text of the cease-fire, negotiated by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, the current leader of the European Union, outlined a very limited mandate for the soldiers that Russia calls peacekeepers who were in Georgia when hostilities escalated. She said these soldiers can go on limited patrols within the two separatist areas but in Georgia

POPSIran Warns of its Capabilities of Self Defense "Attack us and we will shut down the gulf which is what controls the flow of oil to the West". That summarizes the story behind this very slanted and propaganda-driven news article from the "liberal UK media", which states everything in such a manner as to suggest this as an offensive, instead of defensive, measure. So the US goads the UN into new economic sanctions in the game to eventually go to war, and Iran seeing this clearly warns of the consequences that attacking Iran will be no cake walk. Iran has missile systems to take out battle ships. The chess game continues, and war and oil prices (effecting all Americans daily lives) hang in the balance.

POPSA Myth That Kills Unless a person chooses to be in those "well-defined risk-behavior groups" your chances of getting AIDS is almost nil. The exceptions are tainted blood transfusions and unknowingly having sex with an infected person...which is easy to prevent.

POPSPrasugrel Delayed The Food and Drug Administration will take another three months to make a decision on Lilly's blood thinner. Given the lack of an advisory panel and the controversy surrounding the drug, this is not a huge surprise. Exactly what info the FDA needs going forward is not clear.

POPSHerbal Medicine Favourites There are a few staple herbal remedies in my medicine cabinet & this is one I can't do without. It's amazing for healing sprains & increases the rapidity of the healing of bruising. I lent a pot (blended with peppermint & hypercium) to a friend of mine who works in an area where there are frequent injuries & the medical powers that be were so impressed they've started using it on a regular basis

POPSRussert's massive heart attack. People have to die from something. Sooner or later. Nobody can avoid the end. Tim Russert was exposed to the dangers of our modern life as nobody other. Journalism itself, politic, traveling, long work day, stress of high level of management, some routine health problems and lifestyle. May be some of these components were too excessive. A kind of dissonance from harmony.

POPSLow Spending Is Taking Toll on Economy "Growth" is now clearly a meaningless concept. On the necessities side -- food, fuel etc. -- inflation is counted as "growth". (No more food or fuel is being produced or used.) This is balanced against deflation and recession in the discretionary economy, and is interpreted as positive growth. These are two different phenomena and cannot be added together in a meaningful way. Yet achieving this growth is what economics is supposed to be all about. Just another reason why the so-called science of economics is literally nonsense and innumerate to boot.

POPSLos Angeles McDonald's Introduces "Good Luck, Laughter And Prosperity"
The makeover elements are meant to help diners achieve happiness and fortune -- whether they realize it or not. That's because the restaurant was redesigned using the principles of feng shui, the ancient Chinese practice of arranging objects and numbers to promote health, harmony and prosperity. The concept is an unlikely fit with fast food. But the restaurant's owners say the designs are aimed at creating a soothing setting that will encourage diners to linger over their burgers and fries, and come back again. The makeover is part of the attempt by McDonald's Corp. in recent years to remodel hundreds of its restaurants to attract more patrons with unique decor and amenities that might entice them stay awhile. The only familiar signs at the McDonald's in this large Asian community are the golden arches, the drive-through and the menu. Leather seats, earth tones, bamboo plants and water trickling down glass panels have taken their place.
