POPSCalifornia economy loses $28 billion yearly to health effects of pollution Considered the most lethal form of air pollution, microscopic particulates expelled from tailpipes, factory smoke stacks, diesel trucks and equipment can penetrate through the lungs and enter the bloodstream. Exposure to these fine particles has been linked to severe asthma, cancer and premature deaths from heart and lung disease. "In the South Coast basin, an average 64% of the population is exposed to health-endangering annual averages of particulates," Hall said, "and in the most populated county -- Los Angeles -- it is 75%. "In most years, the South Coast and San Joaquin basins vie with the Houston, Texas, area for the worst air pollution trophy, but this year we took it back," she said. "That's not a prize you want to be handed. Essentially, imported T-shirts and tennis shoes are being hauled to Omaha and the big-rig diesel pollution stays here."

POPSA BREAST of Fresh Air Seeing this article reminded me that profession often dictates perspective i.e - a surgeon will want to operate, a baker will want to bake... and in this case a doctor specializing in asthma... will look for a way to suggest suckling milk increases lung efficiency? While this is a good news article - I think too often the truth is slighted and spun in favor of one's own professional bias. But alas, we live in a world of bias. PS - who is paying for all these studies to tell us breast milk is good for babies... isn't that fact just as old as human beings? Search google for "oligosaccharides in breast milk" if you want the bigger scoop. To sum it up breastmilk is the only natural source of all necessary glyconutrients which are derived from oligosaccharides contained in breaskmilk. These are responsible for cellular communication, bacterial intestinal health, brain development, lung health, allergy health, immune system. More to come... I am on a BREAST QUEST!

POPSRoyal Marine thief I wonder how different this case is from the one when a Royal Marine Association elected representative was denied access and freedom to speak to the annual RMA gathering , who was not allowed to take his place because an unelected member was already an unelected trustee sitting in his stead? To steal anything is wrong but to deny democratic rights is more heinous than pilfering property. It goes to the soul of our being. That's one of the reasons why so many former BOOTNECKS are not members of the local RMA. Is that why the trustees would not allow a large group of non-conforming bootnecks to for their own Association.

POPSOutdoor pools more 'breathtaking':study
They were studying the way exposure to chlorine vapor can cause Asthma. It was believed that out door pools allowed Chlorine to evaporate more quickly. This was more an assumption than a fact. Chlorine Gas and HCl or Hydrogen Chloride, which becomes Hydrochloric Acid, when it dissolves in water as a matter of course, is best in the stomach for digestion, or with or with the Alkali NaOH (Sodium hydroxide) which becomes the neutral Salt It Does Not Belong in the Lungs. Why do we use chemical Pan Microbicides, when there is the potential to give water its own version of an immune system? Creeks, rivers and Oceans Don't need Chlorine to remain clean. Why should we think we have a better defense using Chlorine. killing all microbes can turn water Sterile and Stagnant. We need Oxygenated Water,(Waterfall) and microbes can be part of a self contained Eco=system Pools don't need Chlorine, they need things like Fish . this will also help recycle biological 'waste' we produce naturally

POPSStudy links paracetemol to asthma risk I'm sure too many people give children paracetemol because they are crying through hunger or fear. Because an adult has a headache from the crying so the Child should? No The Primary use for Paracetemol in Children, is to reduce fever, when it goes over 38.5 degrees, because children can be particularly sensitive to fever, because it can cause convulsions. Only a small reduction is usually needed (0.5 deg) before the chances are minimalized . In any other case the damage caused by the solution, can far outweigh any benefit

POPSGov. Palin opposed California air-quality improvement efforts In Oakland, the 4th busiest container port in the US, where air quality issues are an ongoing problem , pollution related to the port has been shown to be linked to serious health and environmental problems in West Oakland, including shorter life expectancies (10 years lower for children growing up in West Oakland) and high rates of asthma, chronic lung disease, and heart disease.

POPSHas American Society Gone Insane? Diabetes, obesity, heart disease, physical weakness, osteoporosis, asthma, bodily misalignment and chronic pain... I'm fully in favor of adding depression and mental illness to the list of ways our society makes us unhealthy. The very nature of how we live is unhealthy.

POPSThe Uninsured are Dying Who says it isn't hurting anyone to be without health insurance....not I...it makes sense to put off check ups when you don't have the money to pay or to wait as long as you can hoping you feel better when you get sick...They know it is hurting us, They did a Study on on it. So how can we ignore the truth?

POPSNortheast States Praised for Allergy Policies The Asthma and Allergy Foundation has given top marks to Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Jersey for having policies that support kids with asthma and allergies in school. The group estimates that more than 5 million children in the U.S. have asthma and 2.2 million have a food allergy. States were graded based on their efforts to institute 18 policies, including those that protect students' access to their medications, promote the development of emergency protocols for dealing with asthma and anaphylaxis episodes and ban tobacco use in schools. Those states with the lowest rankings include South Dakota, Georgia, Wyoming and Oklahoma.

POPSRevoke EPA’s Licenses to Pollute Behind the veil of “clean skies,” however, smog and soot and very small toxic particulate matter are still pouring out of the pipes of cars, trucks, the containerized shipping industry that drives global commerce, airplanes, incinerators, large farms and factories. These microscopic particles cause inflammation and injury to the lungs and the blood, killing thousands and condemning many more to life with asthma. Runoff from agribusiness, industry and suburban trophy lawns still flows through our (non-burning) rivers, creating dead zones off our shores and sickening swimmers on our beaches. This is happening because industries have become experts at delaying and manipulating the work of EPA through political pressure and legal tactics. And EPA analysts cut and paste corporate-generated studies and analysis into their findings. As a result, the EPA often acts as if it were protecting the earnings of regulated industries rather than the public’s health.

POPSWere Ancient Viruses a Key to Human Evolution? These viral fragments are fossils that reside within each of us, carrying a record that goes back millions of years. Because they no longer seem to serve a purpose or cause harm, these remnants have often been referred to as “junk DNA.” Although many of these evolutionary relics still manage to generate proteins, scientists have never found one that functions properly in humans or that could make us sick. That is until Thierry Heidmann who runs the laboratory at the Institut Gustave Roussy, on the southern edge of Paris, brought one to life. Heidmann long suspected that if a retrovirus happens to infect a human sperm cell or egg, which is rare, and if that embryo survives—which is rarer still—the retrovirus could have the evolutionary power to influence humans as a species becoming part of the genetic blueprint, passed from mother to child, and from one generation to the next, much like a gene for eye color or asthma.

POPSPregnant women keep away from nuts Pointing out that moderate amounts did not seem to have any effect on the newborn, the researchers say that it is early to say whether pregnant women should give up nuts as they contain nutrients and fats that is much needed for the development of foetus.

POPSSmog Rule: Aussies Can Pull Out Of Games Beijing has been cloaked in pollution for the past month and pollution levels have been at their highest in the past week - ironically ever since the authorities introduced strict new measures to try and improve the air quality. These include shutting down polluting industries nearby and introducing an odds and evens system for car users. Meanwhile, the Greek modern pentathlon association has filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport contesting the right of Australian modern pentathlete Angie Darby to compete in the Olympics. This is the last final appeal in a saga that has been going for a month, but Darby will not be allowed to come to Beijing until her status is confirmed.
