POPSLiberty redefined Our democracy requires us to maintain a balance between cooperation with others and self reliance ( between society and individualism). I agree with this letter-writer that we had gone much too far in the direction of narrow self-interest. We had forgotten there was such a thing as altruism.

POPSFirst Bush-Obama Meeting: Hard Feelings and Hand Sanitizer
"I hope you don't mind me giving you a piece of advice." "Not at all, Mr. President," Obama told the commander-in-chief. "You've got a bright future," Bush said presciently. "Very bright. But I've been in this town awhile and, let me tell you, it can be tough. When you get a lot of attention like you've been getting, people start gunnin' for ya. And it won't necessarily just be coming from my side, you understand. From yours, too. Everybody'll be waiting for you to slip, know what I mean? So watch yourself." Bush then noted that he and Obama had something in common. "We both had to debate Alan Keyes," the president said. "That guy's a piece of work, isn't he?" Obama laughed and even "put my arm around his shoulder as we talked," he recalled, although he added the gesture "might have made many of my friends, not to mention the Secret Service agents in the room, more than a little uneasy." Despite this display of bonhomie, Obama said the president's demeanor turned down

POPS“Yavelow Study Confirms Ayers Hand In Obama’s ‘Dreams" Another example is what Yavelow calls “attributions”—e.g., he “asked,” she “said,” they “wondered.” Some authors use as few as three. Many use fewer than twenty. Dreams, however, uses 36; Fugitive Days 34, and with only four exceptions—three of these used only once—the two books use the very same attributions. Yavelow compares the two books on any number of other characteristics and concludes, “There is a strong likelihood that the author of Fugitive Days ghost-wrote Dreams From My Father using recordings of dialog (either tape recorded or notes). Alternatively, another scenario could be possible: Ayers might have served as a ‘book doctor’.”

POPS Osawatomie: The Weather Underground Newspaper Don’t believe me? Read the quotes for yourself, and see them in context on the full pages below. As with my earlier posts about Prairie Fire and Obama’s review of Ayers’ book, media members and bloggers are granted full permission to use the images and transcriptions on this page freely and without restriction. Many thanks to Zomblog contributors experiencedtraveler and Sharmuta, who did the actual legwork of tracking down and obtaining this rare document. (Coincidence? The image on the left shows the Weather Underground Organization logo in 1975, and the Obama for President campaign logo in 2008.) The following quotes are scanned directly from Osawatomie, with a transcription below each image.

POPS If Iraqis Could Vote It Would Be For McCain Iraqi men watch a repeat of the final US presidential debate between candidates Barack Obama and John McCain as they smoke waterpaipes at a coffee shop in Baghdad on October 16, 2008. Iraqis in the Baghdad neighbourhood near Rasheed Street say if they could vote in the US election they would choose McCain.

POPS Obama's Not ‘New’ from government intrusion but as the possession of goodies provided by government. “Necessitous men are not free men,” FDR proclaimed. It’s a statement Obama surely agrees with Wilson, Roosevelt and now Obama — all their ideas sprung forth from the work of John Dewey, the most important liberal philosopher of the 20th century. Dewey held that “natural rights and natural liberties exist only in the kingdom of mythological social zoology,” and that “organized social control” via a “socialized economy” was the only means to create “free” individuals. Dewey proposed that statism be taught as a kind of civic religion in our schools so that Americans could be raised to see the government as the solution to all of our problems. Ayers, now an education professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, often invokes Dewey when justifying his own dream of indoctrinating public school students in “social justice.”

POPSCrossing Paths Daily: Obama & Ayers Shared Office
Do you think maybe Obama and Bill Ayers ran into each other once in a while? This Chicago Annenberg Challenge website from 2002 shows the total amount of funds given to Bill Ayers’ Small Schools Workshop from 1995 to 2001. The amount is not the $175K I had reported earlier. According to this page, the total given under Barack Obama’s direct supervision was $1,056,162. Adding that amount to the money given by the Joyce Foundation and Woods Fund during Obama’s tenure brings the grand total to $1,968,718. Just shy of two million dollars! That’s a lot of scratch, to put it bluntly. And don’t forget, this doesn’t count the 3/4 million that went to John Ayers during the same time period. Now here’s the second and bigger break, again big hat tip to Morgen for his work on this… Bill Ayers and Barack Obama shared an office. Ayers’ Small Schools Workshop, the one Obama directed all that money to is located at 115 S. Sangamon Street, Chicago, Illinois 60607 enlarged view @ flickr

POPSGuess Who Else Has Tax Liens? Because, you know, associations matter when choosing a plumber, but apparently not when choosing a President. If tax liens are such an indicator of character and trustworthiness, wouldn’t it have more significance for the treasurer of a presidential campaign than for a man who just asked a question of the candidate? If the national media has such an interest in investigating a plumber who made a couple of national appearances, why wouldn’t they have at least the same interest in the people running a major party presidential campaign? Of course not. The same people who instruct us that Barack Obama’s 20-year membership in Jeremiah Wright’s church while Wright called 9/11 “chickens coming home to roost” now interrogate Joe the Plumber on national TV about his brief flirtation with the Natural Law Party.

POPSPalin's Big Lie As McCain's Straight Talk Express sinks deeper into a morass of lies and accusations, Palin is giving it a push by blatantly lying about her being vindicated by the the Troopergate investigation. The sheer audacity of her lie is incredible.

POPSIt's a Pirate's World Aye, they be e'erywhar, and some people in the world you just don't screw with. Unfortunately you can't always tell who those people be until tis' too late. Aye, the Wall Street and corporate scandals that began with Enron may be astonishin' for the scope and audacity o' their criminality, but they be not by any means unprecedented. In fact, Wall Street has been dogged by spectacular acts o' financial banditry since its earliest days. Gar We would ne'er glamorize criminals. We don't want any o' our young t' grow up t' rob or steal, at least not from us. Gar, Where can I find a bottle o'rum?

POPSReligious Non-sense - alive and well today. So what non-sense is the church putting forth today -- that is impeding science? How about the idea that a ball of 150 or so cells is a human being -- and is thus stifling research into embryonic stem cells. When does the idiocy end?

POPSJesus was a Community Organizer, Pilate was a Governor Thank you to my friend Daniel, who has done community organizing from Harlem to LA to Boston. Thank you to Biko Baker of League of Young Voters, who I once interviewed and was immediately impressed by. Thank you to Saul Alinsky, largely considered the father of community organizing (pictured above). Thank you to all of you I don't know, who every day, make the choice to listen to ordinary people's stories and help them link these stories into a template for honest-to-goodness social change. And, yes, thank you to Barack Obama, for making the choice to be a community organizer so many years ago and for continuing to be proud and loud about the importance of the role of the community organizer for our nation's well-being.

POPSObama's recognitions/honors while a Senator Distinguished service recognitions received during his four years as a U.S. Senator. You are certainly free to disagree with Obama, but the suggestion that his service as a Senator is less than exemplary is simply ill-informed propaganda.

POPSMore on The War in Georgia It should be clear by now, the EU slept at the wheel, US egged Saakashvili on, Russia responded with a vengeance. There is no just war, and never has been, never will be.

POPSChutzpah, With a Capital "CH" Can you believe the audacity of McCain? First he manipulates Obama into taking his trip to Iraq and Afghanistan, which also resulted in a successful European tour. When that worked out too well for Obama, McCain declared that his opponent was being presumptuous, and acting as if was already president of the United States. Now that Russia has stormed into Georgia, McCain decides to send Lieberman and Graham to Tblisi to try to work something out. On what authority will the traitor Lieberman, and Howdy Doody Graham discuss anything of substance, with any officials in Georgia? On top of which, Condie Rice, Madam Secretary herself, is on her way to Georgia to assess the situation. She, at the very least, speaks for the president. For whom do these two McCain puppets speak?

POPSMcCain's Hero Status is Phony
McCain's war hero image is fair game and needs to be challenged as well, especially since the Senator beats his chest as the self-appointed arbiter of national military honor and homeland security. The history has been well documented that John McCain received special treatment when he was prisoner of war in Hanoi, in exchange for making over 30 propaganda commercials for the North Vietnamese. In fact, fellow POW's have testified that McCain was considered the best candidate for these films by the North Vietnamese, because he was willing to do anything to avoid torture. They note that the communists even called him "THE SONGBIRD". Ted Sampley, founder of 'Swiftboat Veterans for Truth' and now one of the founders of 'Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain', has stated on their website that even after McCain came home from his captivity he went so far as to deny that MIA's might even still be in Vietnam alive. McCain had the audacity to criticize and ignore the very same people who

POPSThe Audacity Hustle Exposed It's all part of the Audacity Hustle. Obama is running the most audacious campaign in American history. But the Hustle only works for the real suckers. His German Tiergarten speech with "Citizens of the world!" -- a direct echo of "Workers of the world!" from the Communist Manifesto of 1848. "We are the change we've been waiting for!" It's repeated in The Obama Hustle over and over again. But it's just Fidel Castro's slogan, "La Revolucion Somos Nosotros!" --- "We are the Revolution!" Most Americans don't know that Obama's Soviet Realism pics are just imitation Lenin posters. The same thing for The Decembrist rock band to echo the Russian Decemberist rebellion. That's why the Decembrist rockers play the Soviet National Anthem to start their concerts. Get it? The whole idea that Obama is a devout Christian is another fraud; he's a militant atheist, just like Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright.
