POPSLabour ignoring needs of patients While claiming to be proving choice to the public, Labour has actually set about abolishing any bodies which had the power to oppose their control-freak policies, such as community health councils.

POPSTory calls for Haw to be moved on. An uncharacteristically authoritarian call by Alan Duncan to force protesters outside Parliament to be move on does nothing for the Tory party at a time when it needs to be countering growing Labour authoritarianism

POPS'If You're Against Torture, You're Not a Conservative' The GOP has long been a party of followers in search of leaders, making it home to authoritarians and police-state types of all stripes -- frightened children in search of daddies, to be blunt. But it seems that under Bush, the Republican Party has moved beyond authoritarianism to unapologetic evil. No wonder they're screwed.

POPSThe Conservtive Gov't of Canada is imitating the Bushies Canada has always been far more democratic than the U.S. when it concerns access to information and transparency in government. Not perfect, for sure, but terrific compared to some of the tricks used in my home country of the U.S. But since the Conservative government, which is essentially made up of remnants of the failed Reform Party, has come to power, they have done everything in their power to imitate the machinations of the Bush administration and its policies of secrecy and outright lying. This article explains how they have now, without any notice whatsoever, closed down the access to information database that is used by journalists and the public to track the goings on in government. Canada must dump Stephen Harper and his gang of regressive assholes, and bring back transparency in government before the entire system turns into a carbon copy of the Bush administration. Harper has said his political hero is George W. Bush.

POPSFrom Russia With Love:Prime Minister Putin
Foreign investments, though at record levels, remain less than 3% of GDP, on the whole foreigners remain reluctant - not to say scared stiff - to touch Russia. Worse yet, though foreign investments have grown, they usually go to mineral extraction, not to production of finished goods. During Putin's reign oil and gas production nearly trebled, to nearly a full third of the entire economy, and four-fifths of all exports. Putin initially capped government spending and ended the derelict printing of cash, last year - according to The Economist - the state bureaucracy expanded by more than 50% to 828,000 people, while government spending rose 20%. PUTIN'S MAIN message has been that the demise of communism and the Warsaw Pact, and even the arrival of former communist states in the EU and NATO, don't yet spell freedom's historic victory. The world has been introduced to a new authoritarianism, one which emulates the kind overseen a generation ago by Chile's Augusto Pinochet

POPSThey aren't Conservatives, they are Authoritarians Which is the point to sociologist Altmeyer's book, who has been researching authoritarianism for thirty years, and can now publish a popular work (for free) because he's about to retire and can't be fired for his temerity.

POPSPolitical Correctness - From where does it come?
"just as in classical economic Marxism certain groups ( workers and peasants) are good, and other groups ( the bourgeoisie and capital owners) are evil. In the cultural Marxism of Political Correctness certain groups are good – feminist women, (only feminist women, non-feminist women are deemed not to exist) blacks, Hispanics, homosexuals. These groups are determined to be "victims," and therefore automatically good regardless of what any of them do. Similarly, white males are determined automatically to be evil, thereby becoming the equivalent of the bourgeoisie in economic Marxism." For the classical Marxist, it’s Marxist economics. For the cultural Marxist, it’s deconstruction. Deconstruction essentially takes any text, removes all meaning from it and re-inserts any meaning desired. America today is in the throws of the direst transformation in its history. We are becoming an ideological state, a country with an official state ideology enforced by the power of the state.

POPSHerbert Marcuse - The seeds of Materialism in American Culture 1964 Marcuse published One-Dimentional Man, a critique of both advanced capitalism and communism. It looks at the loss of potential for revolution and new forms of social control in capitalist society. ______________________________________________________________ Marcuse's popular lectures at the university were harshly critiques of American civilization. His audience included many students who would eventually make their own marks as influential thinkers, such as Angela Davis and Abbie Hoffman. ______________________________________________________________ Marcuse died in July of 1979.

POPSRussia and China’s challenge for the west Russia and China no longer espouse communism. But both have nonetheless separately arrived at very similar political doctrines. At home, the formula is authoritarianism, combined with rapid economic growth and nationalism. Internationally, both see their rising economic power as the basis for righting past humiliations.

POPSRing-wing as a psychological trait Significant Correlations Altemeyer discovered a wide range of correlations over the years, which can be organized into four general categories. (The Authoritarian Specter) 1: Faulty reasoning — RWAs are more likely to: * Make many incorrect inferences from evidence. * Hold contradictory ideas that result from a cognitive attribute known as compartmentalized thinking. * Uncritically accept that many problems are ‘our most serious problem.’ * Uncritically accept insufficient evidence that supports their beliefs. * Uncritically trust people who tell them what they want to hear. * Use many double standards in their thinking and judgments.
