POPSThe God of Genesis "What I find disappointing about most religious beliefs is that they are a kind of statement of contempt for nature and reality. It's absurdly hubristic. It holds the myths of a few thousand years above nature's many billion-yeared journey. It says reality is inferior and less satisfying than the stories we make up."

POPSMcCain/Palin and the Lunatic Fringe When reporters tried to leave the designated press area and head toward the bleachers where the crowd was seated, an escort would dart out of nowhere and confront him or her and say, "Can I help you?'' and turn the person around. When one reporter asked an escort, who would not give her name, why the press wasn't allowed to mingle, she said that in the past, negative things had been written. The campaign wanted to avoid that possibility Monday. http://blogs.tampabay.com/breakingnew... What is the McCain Camp trying to hide? Perhaps all the negativity has awakened the large Lunatic Fringe inside the republican base and The McCain Campaign does not want the rest of us to see their ignorance. A youtube member got around the restrictions and was able to capture some of these pathetic souls in all their ignorance. POPSGet Back to Jesus Somewhat of a follow up to the clips made from yesterday's blog. It is so easy to get sucked into planting a church and the "nuts and bolts" of what it takes and forget that we are making disciples. It actually takes longer to make disciples than it does to start a church. Jesus spent 3 years with his disciples. It took a betrayal, deserting, misunderstanding and the Holy Spirit to come to start the church. These ideas are what I'm trying to remind myself daily.

POPSObamacans: True Independent Voters Great blog! This is a breath of fresh air in the middle of lots of hot air. Who cares when some reporter got a text saying Joe Biden was Obama's pick? This site is about substance and dialogue - I highly recommend it!

POPS Obama Takes Experience Lead Over McCain -- Again - there’s only one serious candidate in the race. Sister Toldjah McCain is demonstrating that when it comes to criticial foreign policy issues, his near 30 years in the Senate dealing with foreign issues as well as domestic, along with his long career in the Navy...... Hot Air Now, the media has awakened to truly historical events in the Caucasus, and McCain has commanded their attention with his leadership — while Obama hides in Hawaii. Macsmind You would think with 300 advisers THE ONE would have some words of wisdom from his Mount Olympus. The silence is more than telling and quite possibly a view into how Obama would actually handle such events as President. Surfs Up Dude! The New Republic McCain has had a prominent and strong presence in the news while Obama has been fairly invisible. Obama deserved a vacation but the timing–I assume his team figured the Olympics would drown out any other story.

POPSObama’s Speech: Consider These Goalposts Moved! For the men and women of Reverend Wright’s generation, the memories of humiliation and doubt and fear have not gone away; nor has the anger and the bitterness of those years. But the anger is real; it is powerful; and to simply wish it away, to condemn it without understanding its roots, only serves to widen the chasm of misunderstanding that exists between the races. Really? How about understanding its roots but not condemning it? That’s what Obama did for 20 years, implicitly lending himself to the cause of racial division — he finally admits early in the speech that he heard “remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church,” although these appear to be of a lesser grade somehow than the stuff that’s been airing on Fox — and only now with the presidency at stake has he awakened to the perniciousness of silence. POPS"paintings are talking you, beyond word" ...Buddhist art... "The Buddha did not initiate the creation of sacred images. Once he said to a disciple, who wanted to see him before dying: «Oh, Vakkhali, why do you want to see this body, composed of unclear substances? He who perceives Dharma, Vakkhali, perceives me. He who perceives me perceives Dharma». Thus, as far as we know, there was no worship of the Buddha’s image in the early Buddhist community after his Parinirvāṇa.

POPSOUR BRAVE NATION Are we brave enough, AGAIN, to be accounted for? Do we show up or just complain? Where are the protesters? Where are the participants? America once was the beginning of a world wide MOVEMENT and now we seem to be at the end. Let's meet at the next rally, outside, not web side. Or are we that afraid of looking ridiculous? What is stopping us now? Participation required, not just mental masturbation and making our feelings some room.

our self-restraint, our concern for the innocent and less fortunate, our dreams of a more decent future. While the military calls nuclear weapons a deterrent, they are only useful to threaten or to incinerate many thousands of people. The Bush effort to make smaller, 'more useable' weapons could turn conventional conflict into nuclear conflict. Many top leaders from the State Department and our military have agreed that our security and efforts to stop proliferation would be improved by negotiating the elimination of nuclear weapons. But, the dragon has been so engorged under President Bush and his congressional lemmings that it will be an arduous task for the administrations that follow to shrink it down and drive it down into its cave. To do that will require the support of a popular movement and international pressure to offset the influence and lobbying of this lethal industry. The peace movement must learn to tell the truth about every threatening aspect of the nuclear busin

Mudra (Mudhra) is a word in Sanskrit language that is used to signify a gesture, or a mystically significant position using the hands or body posture. The word Mudra is derived from the Sanskrit words Mu (as in Mudhaavaham or welcome) meaning bliss, and dhra meaning dissolving, Mudra is that which dissolves duality and brings together the divine and the devotee. Mudras are meaningful gestures with a specific attitude or frame of mind, performed with the hands, eyes and head position, body postures, with bhandans (locks as in hands or legs locked in a particular positon) and adhara (how they support their body in a particular position) and are used in a process of expansion of awareness. Mudras influence the mind through direct stimulation of the brain via the nervous system, and indirect stimulation through the brain via a manipulation of the prana (life force). Mudras in a spiritual context, are not a mere creation of an inventive mind of some Yoga teacher, but originally came spont

POPSFormer Speaker Hastert's Congressional Seat is Lost to a Newbie Democrat! If this is any indication of things to come, and it is, the Republicans have a lot to worry about come November. This seat has been reliably Republican for decades. The Democrats didn't even contest a couple of elections in Hastert's area. Just two weeks ago it appeared the Democrat didn't stand a chance. I really believe the country has finally awakened to the facts that the Bush administration, and their supporters in Congress has taken the country in a terribly wrong and deadly direction.

POPSCHRONIC PAIN IS AN EPIDEMIC
No library of books or bank accounts drained for money to pay for unsuccessful treatments can begin to speak of the devasting physical, monetary and emotional losses that are at the root of a LIFE unlived, promises unfulfilled, hopes and ambitions that fuel the bonfire of desperations that rage inside the human psyche. As long as you have your health you can change your circumstances (give up the mind chatter about all the reasons why you can't) and LIVE...just live out the what and who of your Being. Therein lies the answer to you maddening questions, the light in the darkness of the crater you roam endlessly, a lone and weary survivor of despair and melancholy. Why do we go on? Despite all our efforts to balance the tangible manifestations of our corporeal existence, we are swept into a maelstrom of futile corrections, ports of call that promise to HEAL, and a bankrupt Soul. We witness the last rites of our simple leaving only to be awakened again and again...still bound.
