POPSIn Defence of Social Workers This blog does not reproduce the whole article, so I implore all followers to go to the original and read the whole piece. If you are from the UK try and get an reaction from your MP. If you have one like mine, because I am not homosexual, a thief, a miscreant and a former regular soldier, you will get no response. But try anyway

POPSWaiting for the Light... "The quality of light influences how we react to what we see, whether we’re looking at a landscape, a building, a person, a picture, whatever. Because the effect takes place on an almost subliminal level, most people go through life totally unaware of it happening"

POPSReligion - Emotional or Spiritual A negative conception of religion. I had high hopes for this heading and was completely disappointed in the discussion that followed. the only emotions the writer discussed was guilt, fear, and anger. My emotional tie to my Unitarian religion has a large emotional component. The emotions of love, hope and compassion. Maybe I have a spiritual understanding but because that concept is undefined by the writer I'm not sure what difference he makes between spiritual and emotional. There are many out there who are open minded about their search for truth and meaning, who earnestly attempt to figure it out for themselves what its all about. Not all religious people have closed minds and it is closed minded to think so.

POPSDarfur activists pitch tents in Washington Former U.S. Special Representative to Sudan Roger Winter said that he urged activists to widen their advocacy from Darfur to Sudan as a whole. Winter noted, “Sudan can get much worse. Note that I did not say Darfur can get much worse; I said Sudan can get much worse.”

POPSThe God of Genesis "What I find disappointing about most religious beliefs is that they are a kind of statement of contempt for nature and reality. It's absurdly hubristic. It holds the myths of a few thousand years above nature's many billion-yeared journey. It says reality is inferior and less satisfying than the stories we make up."

POPSHow Personalities Evolved "Game theory’ is used to predict the behaviour of individuals when making choices that depend on the choices of others. First developed as a tool for understanding economic behaviour, game theory is increasingly used in many diverse fields, ranging from biology and psychology to sociology and philosophy. Using a mathematical model developed by Professor John McNamara the team adapted the theory to allow individuals playing the ‘game’ to have some variation in their personalities to start with, and to monitor each other’s cooperative tendencies as the game was being played."

POPSLATimes covers Mexican drug wars " In the year and a half since Calderon launched a crackdown against drug gangs, about 4,100 people have died." it's well past due, but coverage of the madness just below our border will raise awareness of just how dire the situation is, and how it is in our best national interests to actively help the Mexican gov't deal with the situation.

POPSNewsweek Editors: “Creepy,” “Deeply Manipulative,” “Creature”
THOMAS: He writes about this metaphor being a screen upon which Americans will project. He said they want of Barack Obama; I’m not sure I am Barack Obama. We don’t know anything about him. It’s creepy, never seen a victory speech with nobody on stage, what is this making fun of Biden, by the way? ROSE: Mmm! THOMAS: He had — he has the self-awareness to know that this creature he’s designed isn’t necessarily a real person, and he’s self-aware enough – ROSE: Ahhhhhh! RUSH: Ahhhh. Charlie Rose, light goes on, ahhhh. Self-aware enough to know that this creature he’s designed isn’t necessarily a real person. That is fear. These guys are looking at Obama and they’ve seen him the exact way we have, all of this time. They only now after they think they got him into office are now starting to talk about their fears about how nobody knows anything about him, his resume is thin, he’s only written two books, and they’re autobiographies, we don’t know what other books he’s read. POPSThe Venus Project
continues: The plans for the Venus Project offer society a broader spectrum of choices based on the scientific possibilities inherent in current technology and direct that knowledge toward a new era of peace and sustainability for all cultures. Through the implementation of a resource-based economy, and a multitude of innovative and environmentally friendly technologies directly applied to the social system, The Venus Project proposals will dramatically reduce crime, poverty, hunger, homelessness, and many other pressing problems that are common throughout the world today. One of the cornerstones of the organization's findings is the fact that many of the dysfunctional behaviors of today's society stem directly from the dehumanizing environment inherent in the existing monetary system. Moreover, the currently utilized random implementation of automation and other technologies have resulted in a fragmented, self-defeating trend occurring throughout the manufacturing and high-tech sec
