POPSThis is funny! Good for a chuckle...by
prin1 Yesterday 7:57 AM The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, "Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mr. Bush. I've told you already that Mr. Bush is no longer the president and no longer resides here. Don't you understand?" The old man looked at the Marine and said, "Oh, I understand. I just love hearing it. " The Marine snapped to attention, saluted, and said, "See you tomorrow, Sir."

POPSThe Palin Show hits Miami My suggestion to the GOP: come up with something substantial to offer Americans and Palin will just fade away. It's like the evil witches in fairy tales, stop believing in her and she will go away. Her 15 minutes are up.

POPSProp 8 Legal Challenge Filed Last May, the California Supreme Court found that depriving same-sex couples the right to marry violated equal protection – and that LGBT people are a "suspect class." A "suspect class" is a group that has suffered discrimination and needs protection. The central purpose behind equal protection is to protect unpopular minorities from a political majority who could take away their rights. You can’t simply change the Constitution by majority vote to take away the right of gay people to marry – because that right comes from the equal protection clause. As Herrera wrote in his brief, "without a judiciary that has the final word on equal protection, there simply is no such thing as equal protection."

POPSSaying 'no' to a new heart More: "It is excruciating to imagine the pain not only of this child but of her parents, trying to do the right thing. They are told one night that an ambulance would come and take her away because they were not doing their job to protect her. And yet you understand why doctors will err on the side of treatment. And why the doctor who called in the authorities was concerned about the ability of anyone, but especially a 13-year-old, to walk away from something that represented hope, however feeble. But you have to be grateful that the ultimate judges kept an open mind, let Hannah make her case and found it reasonable for her circumstances. This is ultimately what respect for life looks like; it means respecting an individual's right to decide how she wants to live, even if that involves knowing she will die. Mercy, detached from Justice, grows unmerciful, C.S. Lewis said. But surely justice detached from mercy grows unjust."

POPSUnfair and Unbalanced I listen to talk radio on occasion. It is available, along with sources of opposing view points, as the result of one of America’s greatest freedoms: free speech. I have never subscribed to the idea of following only individuals that I agree with. That kind of dedication, in my opinion, stifles the mind and leads to a myopic and very narrowed view of life. Democrats are talking about ending conservative dominance of the radio dial. They would accomplish this through the Fairness Doctrine. While I don't agree with conservative ideas people like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage and others espouse, they are experiencing a dominance because they have a following. That in itself doesn’t make what they say valid but we no more have the right to shut them down than we do to shut down liberal media outlets. Taking away freedoms granted by the Constituion is not the action of a free and enlightened society. Doing so will surely negatively affect us all.
