GOP shouts "Booga-Booga" about Dem takeover
masbury
by masbury  11-2-2008
Without the all-important "checks and balances" provided by sturdy, real-world Republican senators and congressmen, we might even find ourselves overstretched in a couple of ill-advised wars around the globe, with a trigger-happy and arrogant foreign policy, which could do irreparable damage to our image globally.

It would have been bad enough to vote against the pipeline bill even if it had hurt the caribou. A sane person would still say: Our enemies have us in a vice grip. Sorry, caribou, you've got to take one for the team. But when the pipeline goes through and the caribou population sextuples in the next 20 years, you really look like a moron.

The Keating Five
arnaz
by arnaz  8-29-2008
"Keating asked the five Senators to tell the feds to bug off, and the five Senators, later known as the Keating Five, obliged, meeting with federal investigators twice and pressuring them to stop investigating Keating’s crimes." "Keating blew $3.4 billion through illegal personal loans and bad investments, and the FDIC eventually had to reimburse Keating’s customers who had been ripped off. (The FDIC is a part of the federal government funded by taxpayers dollars, so when Keating stole from his customers you and I were the ones who paid for it.)" "Ever since the scandal, when McCain lies today, it’s never questioned, because he’s a “straight talker”. The man has more skeletons in his closet than any politician in history. The Keating Five is just one bone."

Housing Bill Threatens Personal Privacy Email Petition
merrie
by merrie  6-24-2008    2
The Senate is currently considering a $300 billion mortgage bailout for the riskiest borrowers and their banks. Recently, it was revealed that Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), the primary architect of the compromise bill that ultimately ended up on the Senate floor, had received a special “VIP” loan from Countrywide Financial, which stands to be one of the primary beneficiaries of the bill. Unfortunately, the irresponsible economics and the VIP scandal are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the bad policy in the mortgage bailout. Hidden within the bill is a provision added by Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) that would greatly expand the power of the Internal Revenue Service to monitor what Americans buy online. Sen. Grassley’s provision would require the nation’s electronic payment systems to track, aggregate, and report information on nearly every electronic transaction to the federal government.

A Clear Majority Of Americans Want To Drill Here
merrie
by merrie  6-24-2008    3
Al Gore, philanthropist, Climate activist, and winner of the Nobel Peace prize, is the single greatest advocate in the war against humanity. Millions of innocent lives, people whose only crime is being poor. We need to protect not only others wellbeing, but our own freedoms, our own rights. We need to defend ourselves from Eco-Terrorist ideas, perpetuated by cheap theatrics and scaremongering. We need to defend ourselves against Eco Evangelist Al Gore. Energy Independence: President Bush asks Congress to lift the 1981 drilling ban on offshore oil. The no-drill Democrats will call it flip-flopping. We call it change you can believe in. The Democratic response to Republican determination to end our dependence on foreign oil has been to call for more taxes on oil companies and to pressure, even sue, OPEC. A group of 10 Democratic senators on Tuesday called for Bush to file a complaint against OPEC. http://www.smartgreenusa.com/

To stop funding the war! For the life of me, I don't know where the money is coming from. Perhaps it's China who is really funding this illegal war to the detriment our children and grandchildren's future. When will the madness end? Never, if we continue to throw good money after bad ideas. It reminds me of the Problem Gambler who can't quit his chronic habit and continues to gamble in spite of losing because he psychotically believes the BIG WIN is just a few more bucks (and in war, a few more lives) down the road.

Republicans See Storm Clouds Gathering
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  3-16-2008
More: "It's no mystery," said Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.). "You have a very unhappy electorate, which is no surprise, with oil at $108 a barrel, stocks down a few thousand points, a war in Iraq with no end in sight and a president who is still very, very unpopular. He's just killed the Republican brand." Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain (Ariz.) helped Oberweis raise money, and the NRCC pumped more than $1.2 million into the district -- using more than 20 percent of its cash on hand -- to no avail. "Even if it was mostly about Jim Oberweis, it's a terrible sign," Rothenberg said. "It adds to Democratic energy and further depresses the Republicans. And you can't dismiss the idea that there is an atmospheric advantage for the Democrats." Barack Obama campaigned on behalf of Bill Foster, who took over Dennis Hastert's vacated seat.

Vehicle Delay Blamed For Marines' Deaths
merrie
by merrie  2-18-2008
The letter to the senators is evidence of the "bad advice" senior Marine Corps leaders receive, Gayl contends. The letter, he says, portions of which were probably drafted by the Combat Development Command, omitted that the urgent 2005 request from the Iraq battlefield specifically asked for MRAPs — and not more heavily armored Humvees. It also ignored the Marines' own findings that armored Humvees wouldn't stop IEDs. If MRAPs arrived to Iraq late, or proved too bulky for certain missions, the Marine Corps should have come up with different and better solutions several years ago when the IED crisis was growing, Gayl contends. He has been an outspoken advocate for non-lethal weapons, such as a beam gun that stings but doesn't kill and "dazzlers" that use a powerful light beam to steer unwelcome vehicles and people from checkpoints and convoys. Biden and Bond rebuked the Marine Corps in September for "apparent retaliation" against Gayl.

HOW THE CLINTONS WILL DESTROY JOHN MCCAIN Dr. Jack Wheeler
merrie
by merrie  2-4-2008    3
Allegations of this nature have been made over the years, many by Vietnam veterans. There is an even an organization, Vietnam Veterans Against McCain. But they are based on suspicions and circumstantial claims. There has never been any hard direct evidence. What T says the CIA has is such evidence. Its release would destroy McCain. The threat of its release could force McCain to take a fall, blow the election and lose on purpose. And just who do you suppose would know what the CIA has and work with them to release it? Someone who has been a CIA asset since he was recruited by London station chief Cord Meyer while a student at Oxford in 1968? "They all darkly point to Bill's participation in anti-war peace conferences in Stockholm and Oslo, and his trip to Leningrad, Moscow, and Prague while he was at Oxford. We recruited Bill the first week he was at Oxford. Bill's been an asset of The Three Bad Words ever since." h/t lonewacko.com/blog/

WE MUST STOP THIS INSANITY!
merrie
by merrie  11-17-2007    1
Thankfully -- and not a moment too soon -- the bill brought forth by Rep. King introduces a much-needed measure of common sense to the current debate, and he already has 156 co-sponsors. As House Republican Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) said earlier this week, "These lawmakers understand, as do the vast majority of Americans, that allowing illegal aliens to sign up for valid, legal ID is bad transportation policy, worse immigration policy, and an unconscionable national security policy. And though it may take another week or two for Sen. Clinton and Gov. Spitzer to arrive at that conclusion themselves, the American people knew it the minute it was offered -- and have since joined the rest of us in looking on in sheer bewilderment."

Trent Lott, R-MS, votes for Mexicans while Thad Cochran, R-MS votes for Americans
protofear
by protofear  6-29-2007
When will we get rid of Trent Lott? He has proved his uselessness with this vote. The Republicans are obviously trying to win over the latino vote, because they know that without their support their party is doomed with American citizens. It was the latino vote that saved Bush's ass in the last election, and this is Bush's way of securing that for republicans in the future, but the sad thing is, IMO, Bush has squandered the Republicans chance to lead us, unless they break away from him now. Bush has driven this country further into debt than any other president! He isn't focused on what is important, like America, and Americans! The last thing we need is a 13 million new cheap legal workers in america further driving down the wages!! It's already hard enough! Come to Mississippi and I'll show you hell!! I'm sure it's not so bad in other states, but here it's the pits! Get the illegals out!! Make room for Americans and raise our damn wages!

Not hard to be a conservative when news like this is so commonplace. If lawmakers don't respect me enough to inform themselves about the statutes they enact, why should I respect either them or their statutes? Yeah, go ahead and raise my taxes so some yahoo in DC or my state capital will have some more money to throw away. I would only spend it on something unnecessary like food.

McCain hires Nixon's Jew counter
jklugman
by jklugman  4-5-2007
John McCain hires Fred Malek as his national finance co-chair. Turns out Malek worked in the Nixon administration, and worked to identify Jews in the Bureau of Labor Statistics, whom Nixon thought were conspiring against him. There is some evidence that Malek's work resulted in the demotion of a couple of the individuals he identified as Jewish. In 1988, when George Bush pere installed Malek as deputy chairman for the Republican National Committee, Woodward dusted off his notes and, with the Washington Post's Walter Pincus, further revealed that two months after Malek filed a memo on the matter--he'd counted 13 Jews, though his methodology was shaky--a couple of them were demoted. (Malek denied any role and said Nixon's notions of a "Jewish cabal" were "ridiculous" and "nonsense.") The 1988 story raised a predictable ruckus, and Malek beat a hasty retreat from the RNC.

AIPAC Continues to Beat the Drums of War
zasel
by zasel  2-25-2007
AIPAC is lobbying, nay, pressuring congressional representatives and senators to push Bush into bombing Iran's nuclear facilities. Their tactics are identical to those used when instigating war with Iraq. Thankfully, the vast majority of Jews living in America are vehemently against such an action and will not easily fall under AIPAC's sway as they did leading up to the Iraq war. They have learned their lesson, which hopefully will encourage congress to stand-up to AIPAC and tell them know. Their constituents are against attacking Iran, and they will no longer fall for your standard line that not supporting what Israel wants is equivalent to anti-Semitism. It is my sincere hope that congress will have the courage to do this, and to stop permitting AIPAC from essentially blackmailing them with the Jewish vote. Jewish voters will NOT support any member of congress who presses for war with Iran.

One Hundred Million Dollars!!!

by bjglesener  2-11-2007
 1) When you vote, are you voting for the right person, or just the least bad of the worst choice? 2) Since there are 300 million people in this country. Only 537 individuals are elected to federal office (President, VP, Senate and House of Representatives). Are these 537 the best people for the job? Are they the most qualified to lead this country? Are they the one-tenthousanth of one percent that have achieved the right to lead? Hell, do they even have the capability to lead? 3) Or have they bought their way in?! Think of these points the next time you vote. Ask your Senators and Representatives if they feel our service men and women are being treated with respect and dignity. Ask them what they are going to do to compensate those that have served this Country. Ask...ASK!
