Nov 4: Qudrat - 13th Month (Bahá’í)
egsnyder
by egsnyder  11-4-2008
The Bahá'í Calendar Every new religion has its own calendar and the Bahá'í Faith is no different. The year is based on the solar year of 365 days, five hours and some fifty minutes. Each year is divided into nineteen months of nineteen days each with four Intercalary Days (five in a leap year), called Ayyám-i-Há, which Bahá'u'lláh specified should precede the nineteenth month called 'Alá' (the month of fasting).  The World Heritage List was established by UNESCO in 1972 to identify, protect, and preserve places of “cultural and natural heritage of outstanding universal value.” So far, 184 nations have signed the World Heritage Convention, which defines the general standards of selection for the list, and more than 850 sites have been recognized, including natural areas, such as East Africa’s Serengeti and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Parents Come Together to Teach Virtues to Children of Many Faiths
urbanlife
by urbanlife  3-24-2008
Classes stress the development of moral values as taught in all world religions, such as patience, honesty, and compassion. Parents work with the children to teach them to respect the different cultures and religions of the world. The moral basis of the program is to encourage children to look at their own behavior and how they contribute to a better world. "Parents of my generation feel incredible pressure to make our kids read earlier, to know math sooner and better, to get into the top preschools and then the best schools," "But what many of us forget is the other side of the character of our children, not just the academic side, but the spiritual side and their character side."

Stop Child Executions In Iran:::Sign The Petition
merrie
by merrie  11-7-2007    1
The usual method of execution is hanging, but Iranian law also opens for stoning as punishment for adultery and incest. In 2002 the head of the judiciary announced a moratorium on stoning. Iranian judges have later imposed sentences of stoning, but these are usually overturned higher up in the court system. However, Amnesty International has reported that in May 2006, a man and a woman was executed by stoning in a cemetery in Mashhad, by members of the Revolutionary Guard and Bassij Forces This is in direct violation of Iran's obligations as a state party to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). By signing them, Iran has undertaken not to execute anyone for an offense committed when they were under the age of 18. These treaties also prohibit the use of torture and cruel, inhuman, or degrading punishments Capital offenses in Iran include murder, rape, armed robbery, apostasy, blasphemy, serious drug t

The Top Dozen Religions of the World
delete101
by delete101  6-11-2007    5
I'm amazed that a large portion of the world is Islam. Obviously, there may be drastic implications of a global, Islamic Jihad, which is why peace must be fostered among ALL religions. Unfortunately, Islamic extremists believe our occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan is a threat/war against Islam. America, on the other hand, can't even agree on what the fuck the meaning behind our occupation is.

Striving towards rationality but still missing the mark. The whole idea of a disembodied consciousness doesn't make sense in a material world. The whole "soul" idea is based on a primitive conception of brain function.
