POPSGays Say Farewell to Tammy Faye Tammy Faye became a gay icon because of her sense of fairness towards homosexuals and because of her strength and courage under personal, professional and ultimately, medical duress. Gay men love strong and courageous women. The ultimate gay icon, as many of us know, was Judy Garland. Edith Piaf, Billie Holiday, Carol Channing are a few of the other woman who commanded the respect and adoration of the gay community. Tammy Faye exemplified courage and a sense of strong purpose in her life. And although she did become involved in a phony religious scam with her former husband, Jim, she decided to pick herself up, admit her faults and guilt, and build a new life for herself. At this she succeeded admirably.

But equally crucial is how much the “family values” establishment has tarnished itself in the Bush era. Some of that self-destruction followed the time-honored Jimmy Swaggart-Jim Bakker paradigm of hypocrisy: the revelations that Ted Haggard, the head of the National Association of Evangelicals, was finding God in the arms of a male prostitute, an

He also said that your right living should exceed the right living employed by the pharasees. He said that you must be born again, have a change of heart and everything would be made new. Remaining as you are when you come is not what Jesus had in mind when He died on the cross. IF there was no need for a CHANGE on one's manner of living then Jesus wasted a whole lot of time coming to earth and allowing Himself to be put to death for it was not neccessary, all we need to do is LOVE EVERYONE even the evil ones and all will be well. POPSOne Punk Under God or The 'Prize' of Tammy Faye Tammy Faye has become a "gay icon" and is battling lung and colon cancer. Her son, Jay Bakker, recently attended the premiere of "One Punk Under God" a documentary that will air on the Sundance Channel in November. Bakker is also pastoring Revolution an "alternative" church which embraces the gay community and holds services in a bar in Williamsburg Brooklyn. The same production team that filmed the award winning movie, "The Eyes of Tammy Faye" are producing this television documentary. A Page Six article In today's New York Post (10/22/06) covered this under the headline, "PRAY FOR TAMMY." Tammy was a part of the reality show "The Surreal Life" where she maintained her Christian witness while also gaining the respect of housemates like porn star Ron Jeremy. Tammy makes it clear that she cherishes her children, hence the play on words in the title of this clip.
