this is so stupid. If a person comes dressed as a witch, they have been banned too, because it might offend a wiccan- this is equally unfair. Although, if someone came dressed as a KKK member, they would be told to go home because they were glorifying them... will it never end?

Referenda: Good News for Women, Bad for Gays
Wisco
by Wisco  11-5-2008    1
Good on them. However, several states cast votes that they'll eventually regret. In California, Prop. 8 wins . Marriage equality is dead in California -- the same is true of measures in Arizona and Florida. In Arkansas, gays are banned from adopting or becoming foster parents . That's a shame -- literally. These are attitudes we'll all look back at with shame.

Pakistani security forces said to secure Loisam area
tommy2balmy
by tommy2balmy  10-26-2008
Tribal sources said the militants from Loisam used to easily travel to Nawagai Tehsil on one side and Nawapass in Charmang on the border with Afghanistan on the other side and similarly to Mamond via Bhai Cheena and Banda. Similarly, the militants were using it as an easy route to the adjoining Mohmand Agency via Ambar and Sarlara areas.Maulvi Omar, a spokesman for Baitullah Mahsud-led banned TTP, had once remarked that they would die but never allow Loisam to fall to the troops.

The Extreme Team Behind Amendment 48
brightlight4
by brightlight4  10-24-2008
This constitutional amendment is not about protecting life. Amendment 48 does nothing less than rob us of the ability to make many of life's most important decisions. The architects of the proposed amendment know this. The initiative's sponsor Kristi Burton asserts, "As far as birth control, IVF and abortion and all that, our amendment doesn't ban anything." But then she slyly admits, "That would be up to the legislature and courts. If our amendment passes and that's (a fertilized egg) considered a person you'd have to view those issues in that way." Ms. Burton knows full well that the only purpose to granting a fertilized egg full human rights is to target the right to birth control, IVF and stem cell research. If it were simply about targeting the right to an abortion, then Amendment 48 would have attempted to define life as starting at the moment a pregnancy begins and not before, as Amendment 48 does. The groups supporting Amendment 48, as listed on the Personhood Col

Schools and Libraries to Ban Facebook/MySpace?
handleriii
by handleriii  10-24-2008
I think there is a huge difference between "social networking" and using social sites to show how "cool" you are and troll for dates & relationships. Teenagers who are not "networking" for a business related reason have no business NOT having their online activities supervised...because teens have poor impulse control, poor self esteem issues, and can be easily swayed to do ridiculous things just because some stranger thinks they are "hot". Should Facebook & MySpace be banned at libraries for teens? Perhaps yes...for everyone, perhaps not.

Obama's Abortion Extremism
pkronfield
by pkronfield  10-24-2008    3
It gets worse yet. In an act of breathtaking injustice which the Obama campaign lied about until critics produced documentary proof of what he had done, as an Illinois state senator Obama opposed legislation to protect children who are born alive, either as a result of an abortionist's unsuccessful effort to kill them in the womb, or by the deliberate delivery of the baby prior to viability. This legislation would not have banned any abortions. Indeed, it included a specific provision ensuring that it did not affect abortion laws. (This is one of the points Obama and his campaign lied about until they were caught.) The federal version of the bill passed unanimously in the United States Senate, winning the support of such ardent advocates of legal abortion as John Kerry and Barbara Boxer. But Barack Obama opposed it and worked to defeat it. For him, a child marked for abortion gets no protection-even ordinary medical or comfort care-even if she is born alive and entirely separated from

Calderon Struggles to Reform Pemex
Rustee
by Rustee  10-23-2008
Former presidential candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the most outspoken critic, mobilized supporters for massive street protests Thursday to try to stop approval of the plan he said could lead toward privatization. Privatization!?!? Oh the horror! It would make it easier for private companies to take part in drilling projects. But they would be banned from building or operating oil refineries. Contracts for badly needed deep-water exploration would be allowed only on a straight contractual basis, without the results-based bonuses proposed under the original plan.
