Historian: Genocidal Napoleon was as barbaric as Hitler
missjackson
by missjackson  Yesterday 6:19 PM
The Haitians fought to the death for independence, which they finally declared in 1804. Prisoners on both sides were regularly tortured and killed, and their heads were mounted on the walls of stockades or on spikes beside the roads. Non-combatants, too, were raped and slaughtered. According to contemporary accounts, the French used dogs to rip black prisoners to pieces before a crowd at an amphitheatre. Allegdly on Napoleon's orders, sulphur was extracted from Haitian volcanoes and burned to produce poisonous sulphur dioxide, which was then used to gas black Haitians in the holds of ships - more than 100,000 of them, according to records. The use of these primitive gas chambers was confirmed by contemporaries. Antoine Metral, who in 1825 published his history of the French expedition to Haiti, writes of piles of dead bodies everywhere, stacked in charnel-houses.

On Suing The Enemy
merrie
by merrie  6-30-2008    2
“It bears repeating that our opinion does not address the content of the law that governs petitioners’ detention. That is a matter yet to be determined.” Associate Justice Antonin Scalia, who is nothing if not plain-spoken, was his usual clear and precise self on this occasion, “The game of bait-and-switch that today’s opinion plays upon the Nation’s Commander in Chief will make the war harder on us. It will almost certainly cause more Americans to be killed.” And not just Americans, if Mr. Justice Scalia proves as prescient as he is plain. Already prisoners at Guantanamo who have had to be released have returned to attacking American troops and/or civilian targets, and had to be recaptured. Having again entered the maw of the American judicial system, who knows if they will ever face justice? That question, too, remains Yet To Be Determined.

torture of Palestinians in Israeli prisons is the rule, not the exception
RaiseClip

Shame? Israeli Jews & and their supporters with an ounce of shame? They don't even know the definition of the word. The contradictions are obvious. These are the people stuffing sympathy down our throats around the clock about the brutal Nazis. These creatures are EXACTLY the same and even worse. My question is why should anyone feel sympathy for the profiteering alleged victims who, in the present hour, systematically perform the same torture rituals, justifying such barbaric acts with the same lame excuses?

Bizarre origins of wedding traditions
Kelika
by Kelika  6-28-2008    1
"It used to be that after the bride and groom said, "I do," they were to go immediately into a nearby room and consummate the marriage. Obviously, to really make it official, there would need to be witnesses, which basically led to hordes of wedding guests crowding around the bed, pushing and shoving to get a good view and hopefully to get their hands on a lucky piece of the bride's dress as it was ripped from her body. Sometimes the greedy guests helped get the process going by grabbing at the bride's dress as she walked by, hoping for a few threads of good fortune. In time, it seems, people realized that this was all a bit, well... creepy, and it was decided that for modesty's sake the bride could toss her bouquet as a diversion as she made her getaway and the groom could simply remove an item of the bride's undergarments and then toss it back outside to the waiting throngs to prove that he was about to, uh, seal the deal."

Judicial Barbarism
ouyangwulong
by ouyangwulong  6-26-2008    1
Although I am an opponent of the death penalty, I think this was the wrong decision. Why? Because it enshrines barbarism in our legal system. By saying that the death penalty is not warranted unless the victim of the crime was also killed, the justices have defined our legal system as an instrument not of justice but of vengeance. Justice is the protection of the weak, and the assurance that wrongs, once committed, will not be repeated. Justice should not spring from vindictive passion, but instead from a love for all those in society. Our legals system is there to protect us from henious individuals who menace society, not to torture them for our own sadistic satisfaction. If we merely revisit their own crimes back on them, we are not just, but savage, not civilized but barbaric.

Thanks to Israel again. I'm sure the Israel supporters get tired of hearing about what a rotten, barbaric state Israel is, but the one thing Israel or its people don't do is simply stop being so barbaric and terroristic. Israel cannot do this, because it is like an abusive alcoholic. Withdrawals from committing so much violence and cruelty would be rather painful.

What a surprise. Stealing. Always stealing. The cult started off stealing (just read your bible) and has been stealing and swindling ever since. They turn around and wonder why anyone in their right mind might not feel so good about the cult. Of course they know why people are piping mad, but they pretend to be dumb when it comes to human nature. They ration that in spite of treating Palestinians worse than Hitler treated Jews, that Palestinians should be in love with them. Most obvious is that they KNOW they live, breath and sleep on a bed of lies and the hope and pray the world believes their lies. The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth is that the State of israel is, in fact, one of the most cruel and barbaric regimes in the world today. That's the truth and no amount of their bullying and whining can change that fact. No amount of name-calling and invoke the the label of Nazi can change these facts. Israel is wrong and the world should recognize it openly and universa

some deep sarcasm here. continuing... Nothing drives this truth home quite as blatantly as America's mercenary army in Iraq, which is immune from prosecution under either Iraqi or U.S. law. And the baddest of the American privateers are the Blackwater guys, about whom a rival security contractor told Fortune magazine: "They always shoot first and ask questions later. When we're out in country, we often fear Blackwater more than the Iraqis." Back on Sept. 16, Blackwater personnel -- not for the first time -- convulsed the people to whom we are bringing democracy with an unprovoked shooting rampage. While providing security for a U.S. embassy mission, they opened fire in the crowded square. By the time they stopped, 17 Iraqis lay dead and another several dozen were wounded. These were just ordinary people going about their lives. No one had fired at the security team first, witnesses insisted. But apparently something spooked them, and when you're not accountable under any law, why

There is no question that Japan has been "caught out" in its acts of barbaric and unenlightened whaling practices. Hence their reaction to the release of the graphic images. Japan prefers to drop a cloak over its operations and simply with uniform or misinform the public. It tries to lie its way using the guise of "research".  The whaling industry has no place in the 21st Century and certainly not in a sophisticated nation like Japan. Whaling is a primitive, cruel, economically senseless and barbaric practice. What is a major industrialized super power doing killing whales anyway? The only other people involved in this anachronistic bit of sadistic maritime madness are a few frustrated inbred Vikings in Northern Norway and the Danish Faeroe Islands. Even the Icelanders have seen fit to pack the harpoons away.
