For det er vel ikke alltid forholdene tilsier at man BØR tro, det kan være like greit å tro på julenissen...? Da blir evnen til å etablere ny tro i stor grad avhengig av andre faktorer - det de kaller for "beskyttende systemer" - om de er tilstede i stor eller liten grad, eller er helt fraværende (hvor fravær gir økt risiko for varige traumer). "Beskyttende systemer" er individets øvrige livsbetingelser, under og etter stor påkjenning med stress, og fare for mer varige skader. Derfor kan ikke to mennesker erfare lik påkjenning. Det er erfaring som gjøres i lys av personens liv forøvrig; sosialt nettverk, familie, barn, avkobling, økonomisk trygghet, arbeid, status, nærvær av andre som bygger opp og støtter - mye, litt - eller tilnærmet ingenting. Like primitiv som fareresponsen vår er, er frykten for utstøtelse og avvisning - overveldende frykt. På sabeltanntigerens tid, ensbetydende med dødsdom; å bli jagd fra flokken og måtte berge seg alene. Det er forsåvidt det enda.

Zwart said the restored work "looks a lot different than before, and it looks better. The restoration work also revealed information about the painting's history. It turns out that the work is a "pendant," one of a pair of paintings on a shared theme. Barn Interior's companion painting hangs in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Art history professor Henry Luttikhuizen said he is pleased the discoveries about the painting are drawing attention to Van Nuis, who died last year. "Kees would have really enjoyed seeing the painting restored. I can readily imagine him chuckling with delight at the conservator's findings," Luttikhuizen said.

Poisoned Horses Update; One Still Critical Debbie Tomin, co-owner with her husband, Bill, of Rockridge Farm in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., told TheHorse.com late Sunday morning that "23 horses were fed the poisonous concoction (of apples, carrots, and oleander leaves). "All the ones in the barn and three outside (were fed the dangerous mixture)," she said of the Saddlebreds at their farm. "We brought two home from the hospital yesterday (that had been poisoned), but one is still in critical condition. "All the horses will have a blood test on Monday to see if their heart muscles have been affected," she said. "Once cleared, they can go back to work. "We have no suspects, no disgruntled employees or clients," Tomin said.
