POPSDrug use is a Health Issue, not a Law Enforcement issue We waste a lot of money fighting the drug trade in the U.S. What do we have to show for it? Over-crowded jails, bloated law enforcement budgets devoted to fighting drug use instead of helping the user fight the habit, a criminal underworld that is profitting from drug traffic and an ever increasing crime rate surrounding drug trafficking. This issue needs to be seriously addressed and changes need to be made, because what we are doing is NOT WORKING. For what other health issues do we use police, prosecutors, and prisons as the primary means of 'helping' a sick person? Isn't that just as silly as using a baseball bat to cure someone of clinical depression? (Smile and get happy or I'll whack you again)

POPSPrediction: XXX XXX XXX Wins 281-257 From this base case (XXX XXX XXX winning with an 11 point cushion), there are a couple deviations worth mentioning, given that Virginia and Pennsylvania seem to represent the most tenuous wins for McCain. * If McCain loses Virginia (13 votes), he can still win by picking up any of the three western battlegrounds (NM, CO, or NV). Of these, at least Colorado appears plausible, so Virginia isn't necessarily a killer. * If McCain loses Pennsylvania (21 votes), he needs to pick up any two of those western states. This is a stretch, so losing Pennsylvania would appear nearly lethal. The caveat here is that McCain could lose Pennsylvania and pick up only Colorado, which would yield a 269-269 tie. * If McCain loses both Virginia and Pennsylvania, President Obama is a near mathematical certainty.

POPSMore Antigay Remarks From Jerry Lewis Jerry Lewis has always been known to be a rather mean-spirited individual. He has made many misogynistic remarks, as well as anti-gay comments over the years, as well as other socially offensive actions and statements which are too numerous to go into right now. The problem is, that the older he gets, the more cantankerous he becomes. He was once largely panned by the press in Montreal when he insulted vilely a female journalist who did not post a particularly favourable review of his performance.

POPSTuring test, put to test next week. "I think the reason Alan Turing set this game up was that maybe to him consciousness was not that important; it's more the appearance of it, and this test is an important aspect of appearance.' "The test will be carried out by human 'interrogators', each sitting at a computer with a split screen: one half will be operated by an unseen human, the other by a program. The interrogators will then begin separate, simultaneous text-based conversations with both of them on any subjects they choose. After five minutes they will be asked to judge which is which." "a program needs only to make 30 per cent or more of the interrogators unsure of its identity to be deemed as having passed the test, based on Turing's own criteria"

POPSBiden: "I Have Been Field Dressed!" Update: 10:20 - Quite literally in the same breath, Joe laments, "I'm not gonna change..." and then goes on to boast about his record of change. Update: 10:24 - After an unsteady beginning, Palin seemed to get consistenly more comfortable (and more effective throughout the debate). In the home stretch, she's managing to stay on positive notes, enunciating her and McCain's strong points, and thus keeping possession of the ball, leaving Biden to spend much of his times grouchily refuting her. Update: 10:28 - On the final question regarding "changing the tone" in Washington, Joe claims he has never - not since his freshman year anyway - questioned the motives (or opposed to the judgment) of a fellow Senator. Fact check away. Update: 10:38 - Was anyone else bracing for an awkward "hot mic" moment after the debate ended and they left both candidates' mics open?
