POPSAngry Fundamentalist Dawkins Spews Out Rant Just kidding. But I thought I'd make fun of the cartoon representation applied to Dawkins of the rabid fundamentalist. The attached video shows the Dawkins I'm used to seeing. I'd suggest it is a bit of a stretch to characterize his manner as strident or intimidating. Compare his delivery to just about any Pentecostal preacher on any Sunday morning and the differences would be quite startling. As far as the content of this video, being familiar with his writing I've heard this argument before and think it bears further investigation.

POPSWriters really spoof it up. but wouldn't it cool if this was true? Hundreds of independent writers, artists, and activists are claiming credit for an elaborate project, 6 months in the making, in which 1.2 million copies of a "special edition" of the New York Times were distributed in cities across the U.S. by thousands of volunteers. The papers, dated July 4th of next year, were headlined with long-awaited news: "IRAQ WAR ENDS". The edition, which bears the same look and feel as the real deal, includes stories describing what the future could hold: national health care, the abolition of corporate lobbying, a maximum wage for CEOs, etc. There was also a spoof site, at http://www.nytimes-se.com/.

POPSRubin: My Friend, the "Neo-Nazi" I could say, I know him, he has been a guest in my home in New York and in my rented house in Provence, he bears absolutely no resemblance to the image these despicable people are trying to project of him, and lot's more. I could point out that I am Jewish and have VISIBLE JEWISH ARTIFACTS IN MY HOME, which did not appear to alarm Rashid, if he even noticed them, but it is all just so ridiculous I don't know what to say.

POPSBulls, Bears, Donkeys and Elephants These graphs compare the growth of a hypothetical investments under Republican vs Democratic administration since 1928. The Republicans have always promoted themselves as the party of economic expansion, but the graphs tell a different story.

POPSGodless = Not Acceptable? All the news outlets pass over the obvious and by doing so reinforce the common idea that being godless is somehow something to be used as a weapon to defame people. A thinking person should first ask what is wrong with being an atheist? Instead we see most people accept the premise that it is simply wrong and leave it at that. That, in and of itself, is arrogant, prejudicial, and hateful.

POPSNearby Solar System Looks Like Our Own at Time Life Formed Right now, Epsilon Eridani is surrounded by three asteroid rings that scientists believe are held in formation by large planets, the first of which is theorized to sit about half the distance from Mars to Jupiter. In the new paper, two other large planets, slightly farther from their star than Uranus and Neptune are from the sun, are proposed to explain the shape of the outer belts. It will take more sensitive instruments — perhaps like the next-generation of planet-hunting telescopes — to determine whether any would-be Earths lurk inside the habitable zone near the star.

POPSWill the "Real" America Please Stand Up. "When we act, we create our own reality," a "senior Bush advisor" (assumed to be Karl Rove) told journalist Ron Suskind in 2002, and this became the administration's version of a game plan. Thus Donald Rumsfeld's conviction -- shared by McCain -- that we would be "greeted as liberators" in Iraq. For GOP leaders, the Iraq that erupted into a violent insurgency just wasn't the "real" Iraq. Our culture was built by immigrants and shaped by wars, social upheavals, economic crises and further rounds of immigration, each time from places that seemed deeply "foreign" to those who had already settled in. Each round of change was painful to those used to the temporary status quo -- but each round of change also gave us a richer, stronger nation. That's the real America: a land of change and perpetual renewal. Let's stand up for it.

POPSPalin and George Wallace Palin courts racism by using Wallace's rhetoric. Makes a good point that counterculture of 60's bears no resemblance to Islamic jihadists.
