POPSWho Should Rock Obama? Inauguration 09 (!)
Yesterday houses of prayer and worship throughout the nation (and others) rang bells, lit candles, lit incense, offered prayers, blessings, good will to the new President-elect. The previous week were tributes from world leaders, USA politicians,, rock stars and Hollywood celebrities, sports stars, TV announcers and pundits, Radio DJ's, activist groups and people everywhere on the street or from their offices. TV news, in a desperate bid to keep viewers now that the elections are over, tried to pretend which bred of dog(s) Obama should get for his kids was a topic of national interest. But - BOOM! - What the people were really interested in and what they wanted exploded onto the scene (just like who they wanted elected, ! exploded, despite stupid or negative meda) -- The Inauguration. Inauguration tickets. Inauguration hotel and dinner reservations. Some memorabilia and... MUSIC! Cast your vote on this web page's unofficial contest. (Note: 'Movin' On Up' is a joke

POPSvoting + electronics = EPIC FAIL!!
tsk tsk..... how many years running and only the hackers of the world have a clue on how patheticly stupid it is using electronic machines... go back to paper folks!!! lo-tech always beats hi-tech.... sheesh even Oprah had problems with her machine.. Now lets think about (North) Americans for a minute.... for techno savvy (reasonably) folks you sure are over-confident in your concepts of "security". Only non-hackers(users) can even CONCEIVE of (its frankly funny) "secure" You want something thats un-hackable... unplug it!! -that is a FACT Now Security.. (digital).... realise it now.. it is just an idea and u better get it over it.. dont believe me? google video: steve rambam, toorcon or if u r smart RTFM With the amount of info out on the backdoors on the machines from 04 and 00... sigh.... (closed source machines!!!!!?? Hello!!?? OMG?? alarm bells anybody!!?? *sigh*) Catch a wake up!! .....not that it matters, peak-oil etc, we'll all be seriously off-line

POPSSkinheads Arrested, Planned to Assassinate Sen. Barack Obama and other African-Americans The complaint said the two planned to take guns from a store in Jackson, Tenn., and one of the men had a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun. The men were initially taken into custody by the Crockett County Sheriff's Office as they drove around in a vehicle covered with racially offensive words and symbols. Darrin Blackford, a spokesman for Secret Service, said the agency was contacted after the men repeated statements about their plan to federal agents investigating the case.

POPSAre the Bushies trying to retain control after January 20th? More: "Noting that Bill Clinton also ordered up a transition council on Nov. 27, 2000, Light called his "similar but without all the bells and whistles." Among other things, the Bush executive order could keep agencies busy preparing briefing materials and a Transition Directory to include "federal publications and other materials that provide information on each executive department and agency." Cynics might wonder if the Bush team wants to keep its hands in before the order expires on Feb. 20, 2009, one month after the new president takes office. Whatever the motives, said Light, one of the presidential candidates will need the help more than the other. "McCain has done almost nothing about the transition," he said, except to criticize Obama for saying in mid-summer that he was appointing a team to begin contingency planning."

POPSLearning From Mistakes Only Works After Age 12, Study Suggests Is that difference between eight- and twelve-year-olds the result of experience, or does it have to do with the way the brain develops? As yet, nobody has the answer. 'This kind of brain research has only been possible for the last ten years or so,' says Crone, 'and there are a lot more questions which have to be answered. But it is probably a combination of the brain maturing and experience.'

POPSLearning From Mistakes Only Works After Age 12, Study Suggests "There is also an area of the brain that responds strongly to positive feedback: the basal ganglia, just outside the cerebral cortex. The activity of this area of the brain does not change. It remains active in all age groups: in adults, but also in children, both eight-year-olds and twelve-year-olds."

POPSChristmas Songs and Carols It’s getting close to December and you can’t deny that Christmas is just around the corner. The breeze is getting colder and slowly filled with familiar Christmas melodies. Your favorite radio station is playing ‘Silver Bells,’ the mall you frequent with plays a disco version of ‘Jingle Bells,’ the bakeshop and even your bus ride home are playing a variety of Christmas carols. Now you can’t stop yourself from humming some good old Christmas songs and sometimes they just keep on playing in your mind for the rest of the day. Ooops ‘last-song’ syndrome!

POPSThe Banking Bailout and Those Bells and Whistles
It seemed like everyone was on the same page--it lasted for about 24 hours. But the funds are not uncontroversial and have been criticized as a method by which politicians can cater to special interests. The funds were set to receive funding from Fannie Mae (nyse: FNM ) and Freddie Mac (nyse: FRE ) in this summer's Housing Bill. The uncertainty over the funds is tied directly to the uncertainty with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which need new legislation from the next Congress. The Treasury program to buy equity and securities from Fannie and Freddie only lasts through 2009. Under the new proposal, however, the funds will be addressed now. Together they receive one-fifth of the profits from the Treasury's purchasing program. Of that fifth, 65% go to the Housing Trust Fund and 35% to the Capital Magnet Fund. The remainder of the profits would stay with the Treasury. Not exactly the clean and simple passage that everyone was talking about on Sunday morning.

POPSJohn McCain, Friend of Monopolies I think there are two reasons McCain invokes Teddy Roosevelt. 1. Roosevelt wasn't a Republican in the modern sense, but a Republican in the original sense -- i.e., a progressive. McCain hopes to signal some that his "maverick" label actually means something. 2. Teddy Roosevelt is the one face on Mt. Rushmore that Americans know the least about. In the end, I'd say it's more 2 than 1.
