POPSThe UN is a joke. The UN used to be dominated by the Soviets and other Eastern block puppet states, now it is dominated by anti-Semite, anti-western Arab states and their helpers from the EU

POPSJerry Z. Muller: Is the Market Moral? Jerry Z. Muller ("The Mind and the Market: Capitalism in Western Thought") is Professor of history at the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. His essay, which is overflowing with dewy-eyed praise of the morality of capitalism, ought to be noticed and needs critique. Summary: Muller discusses the moral effects of capitalism. He enumerates five positive moral effects of the market. The link between individual autonomy and self-support through legally free labor. The moral quality of self-support arises in good part from the fact that it so often extends beyond the individual, to his or her family and descendants. The market leads to a self-interested concern for others, to what one might call non-altruistic reciprocity. Capitalism creates ever wider forms of association. Capitalism creates new and more complex forms of individuality. ↗Deutsch

POPSEvolution of Social Groups: love is important Even as individuals we can take encouragement that small things count. History is the witness of benevolence always washing away the malevolence of the moment, no matter how hateful and powerful it seemed at the time.

POPSSad Argument From Oxford Grad I started this article with high hopes that the author, being an Oxford graduate, would bring a certain amount of intellectual weight to his argument. Boy, was I disappointed. Even an Oxford education doesn't protect one from the hold of superstition. Johnson uses the same old tired cliches and discredited arguments to back up his claims. What struck me most is the lack of imagination the "scholar" brings to his argument. And then he makes up this "militant atheism that threatens our happiness and well-being". What a load of drivel. How shallow his faith must be!

POPSA Better Way to Offer Help This struck me as a very good way to become effective in offering assistance to others. I know that my own coping mechanisms to stress are not often effective. When someone can offer a suggestion instead of questioning my stressors, I'm likely to recover more quickly, be better equipped to assess the cause of the stress or to tackle the challenge at hand, or to allow someone else to provide their gracious assistance.

POPSTraining KILLERS. Dying to KILL! Familiar?
Human beings, then, are not killers by nature. Political leaders, including our own, whose aim it is to further their political goals through violence, have recognized that this reluctance to kill, this foundational aspect of a human being’s moral identity, jeopardizes their ability to wage war effectively. Consequently, following the Second World War, warrior preparation – basic training/boot camp – was modified to shift its focus from acquainting soldiers with tactics and weaponry to rather sophisticated techniques of value manipulation, moral desensitization, and psychological conditioning, aimed at destroying/overriding the recruits’ moral aversion to killing. Second, the reality of combat is such that few men kill or are willing to die for ideology, issues of justice, god or country. What ultimately motivate soldiers to kill and to die in battle are personal honor, self-respect, and their loyalty and accountability to their comrades. {Stolen from Cptenaud}
