A million rally to Chicgo to celebrate Obama Victory?
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  11-4-2008    3
In four hours the polls close and the level of excitement is building beyond belief and anyone's experience. Some have said there will be a million people going to Chicago for election night madness and celebration. 70,000 tickets to Obama's planned Victory Speech at Grant Park were gone in a hour. All fireman are on call. All police are on call and both told the have their max equipment on hand. Hospitals too have beefed up staff. Secret Service protection measures also to the max. It's reasonable to expect 'mischief,' or something in a probably the largest crowd gathered for a political event in U.S. history. But - Republicans are continuing their smear tactics to the very end, saying their are worries about black riots if Obama loses, etc., hitting the stereotype of blacks as criminals and threats -- instead of voters. We'' need to 'purify,' ourselves after this election; then move forward. Goosebumps . Jitters.. YouTube report: http://www.youtube.com/watch

The Psychology of Denial in the Age of Consumerism
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  11-3-2008    3
A four-year analysis of the world's ecosystems sponsored by the Worldwatch Institute found that over-consumption has pushed 15 out of 24 ecosystems essential to human life "beyond their sustainable limits". Our insatiable desire for more is moving the planet toward a state of collapse that may be "abrupt and potentially irreversible".

"How Grimoires Work"
cakebelly
by cakebelly  10-28-2008
continues Indeed, they seem so ridiculous that they encourage scorn concerning the whole subject. Is this ridicule valid? i don't think it is.: Perhaps we should look beyond the words and instructions, and see what is really going on in such instruction. And the first point to be raised is the 'leap of faith'. This is an absolute knowing that a belief system is true. It ignores reason, and takes the believer to a oneness with whatever system is being believed in. And often, to ignore the rationality that says it is wrong requires you to accept what to others would be gibberish. Hence, the ridiculousness of it all has rationality. : And this attitude continues into the spells themselves. For in order to carry out such irrational instructions, your beliefs have to be strengthened with every utterance or action. Hence, the very 'stupidity' of it all enhances your confidence that a result can be achieved. Spells are also related to normal life. Most people, when they get up in a mornin

On a trip this month into the rutted hills, where about 300 people regularly borrow books from him, he reminisced about a visit to the National Library in the capital, Bogotá, where he was stunned by the building’s immense collection and its Art Deco design. “I felt so ordinary in Bogotá,” Mr. Soriano said. “My place is here.” Very nice story....

So what we will see in the next days and weeks--what we have already seen in the hours after her nomination--is an effort by all the powers of the old liberalism, both in the Democratic party and the mainstream media, to exorcise this spectre. They will ridicule her and patronize her. They will distort her words and caricature her biography. They will appeal, sometimes explicitly, to anti-small town and anti-religious prejudice. All of this will be in the cause of trying to prevent the American people from arriving at their own judgment of Sarah Palin.

In my line of work, I see many people addicted to methadone and I must confess that it is simply shocking to me that doctors addict these people so lightly. I don't mean to make light of the personal responsibility of the patient, but it just boggles my mind and it is so sad; sad beyond belief. I see 40 year olds that I know won't live another 10 years.

Obama Vows to Continue Bush's Assault on the Constitution!
rustajb
by rustajb  6-25-2008    6
I am speechless. I was going to vote for Obama until I learned this. I simply can not vote for anyone who sells out our constitutional rights. I feel a little crushed right now (only a little, I am primarily an anarchist). I just wanted an eloquent, seemingly humanist, president for a change. but now I see my old belief still holds true; Obama is just another head of the same beast, all be it more literate and better dressed. This is beyond the pale! I guess I needed this to wake me from my romanticized stupor. I was swayed by his charisma but now see his true colors and they are not red, white and blue. The linked article summed it up best: "as a Constitutional Law Professor, he knows full well what a radical perversion of our Constitution this bill is, and yet he's supporting it anyway. Anyone who sugarcoats or justifies that is doing a real disservice to their claimed political values and to the truth. "

Limbaugh tops his own bigotry with this one.
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  6-18-2008    20
It's hard to believe what can come out of the mouth (butt) of Rush Limbaugh but his latest tirade is beyond belief, beyond disgusting, beyond loathsome. Yes it's very hard to believe this mindless little man could stoop so low as to praise the flood victims in Iowa, Illinois who happen to be mostly white and at the same time, condemn the Katrina victims with the same old rhetoric, innuendos and outright bigotry that the KKK type people carry in their bags of hateful garbage. Those poor hurrican victims, who happen to be mostly of color are responsible in the intolerant brain cells of Rush, for their fate. I know beyond the pale, is too weak a phrase for this criticism from a genuine butt-hole. The only bewilderment I feel of such a creep sputtering into a microphone that goes out over the airwaves is, WHY THE HELL WOULD ANYONE LISTEN TO HIS SHIT AND STILL THINK OF HIM AS A CREDIBLE BEARER OF THE TRUTH? :-? http://thinkingblue.blogspot.com

10 Books That Screwed Up The World
willhelm
by willhelm  5-13-2008    2
"From Machiavelli's The Prince to Karl Marx's The Communist Manifesto to Alfred Kinsey's Sexual Behavior in the Human Male, these "influential" books have led to war, genocide, totalitarian oppression, family breakdown, and disastrous social experiments. And yet these authors' bad ideas are still popular and pervasive--in fact, they might influence your own thinking without your realizing it. Here with the antidote is Professor Benjamin Wiker. In his scintillating new book, 10 Books That Screwed Up the World (And 5 Others That Didn't Help), he seizes each of these evil books by its malignant heart and exposes it to the light of day. "

Transhumanism vs. Trans-Systemism
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  5-13-2008
What exactly is this “human” that we are supposed to extrapolate into the future? Is it an individual animal? A member of a species? A self-aware “software” that resides in the fore brain of an advanced mammal? Several combined pieces of software? Software combined with external knowledge and information? Does it depend on nature? Can it be distinguished form the system in which it resides? Can it exist without the broader system? ******** Perhaps the most critical challenge of transhumanist philosophy is exactly this: To offer a vision of the future human, the human of beyond. Transhumanism will not grow into a mature philosophy without defining and describing the possible favorable directions of human evolution, both as individuals and as a specie.

Junk about Obama from a dailykos diary
egoldstein

Are you kidding me!? What Rev Wright has said goes way way way beyond the belief that "racism is alive and well in white middle class America." The references made by the author to Obama's "white advisors" and Obama having "become white" render this piece entirely hypocritical in my opinion. Usually i don't clip things that i find to be so stupid, but this one startled me so that i felt the need to point it out.

Professor Lee Cronin at the University of Glasgow said, “What we have done is find a way to potentially increase the data storage capabilities in a radical way. We have been able to assemble a functional nanocluster that incorporates two electron donating groups, and position them precisely 0.32 nm apart so that they can form a totally new type of molecular switching device. The key advantage of the molecule sized switch is information / transistor density in traditional semi-conductors. Molecule sized switches would lead to increasing data storage to say 4 Petabits per square inch. This breakthrough shows conceptually that this is possible (showing the bulk effect) but we are yet to solve the fabrication and addressing problems. The fact these switches work on carbon means that they could be embedded in plastic chips so silicon is not needed and the system becomes much more flexible both physically and technologically.”

This mind-boggling voyage is but one of many facts which have been compiled and collated, and which is presented in this DVD by Jim Condit Jr. in this fascinating new DVD entitled The Final Solution to Adolf Hitler. This thorough analysis examines Hitler’s career and influence, from his humble beginning in Austria to his appointment as German Chancellor by President Paul Von Hindenburg, from his ascent to absolute dictator of the Third Reich to his role in bringing about the modern state of Israel and the emerging world government.

What if everything you believe is Wrong?
pokkets
by pokkets  1-11-2008    17
Retrospect and reflection are priceless. It's easy to cherish a belief that we are not prepared to challenge. Like a crab that needs to shed it's shell to grow, for a short time is soft and vulnerable. Soon it is harder, stronger and bigger. (unless it's a Hermit crab, with a new shell ready) One of the keys to the manner in which we challenge our beliefs is through learning and experience. Without the unknown to draw us forward, we would run around in circles. Consider the way a child sees the world. It can be valid, but sometimes beliefs belong in the domain of children. Children can believe a man they barely know gives them gifts for Christmas. There comes a time in their life that they have to admit not so much that this is a fiction, but that the truth has been that their parents have had to work to get the money to get the gifts, with absolutely no credit. (Sorry, I should write Recognition. Credit and Christmas are Mortal enemies)

Seer Stones Find No Use in White House?
AtlLiberal

It was telling that the speech took place at the library of the countries champion of religious bigotry, George H. W. Bush. For those too young to remember, in 1987 when asked about atheists he responded: “I don’t know that atheists should be regarded as citizens, nor should they be regarded as patriotic. This is one nation under God.” Romney, during his "I'm a holy, godly, person" speech made no mention of unbelievers at all. He simply regurgitated what would bring the Religious Right back into the fold. His talk, filled with homilies and half-truths should play well among the sheep he's trying to attract. Incidentally, he was also stunningly silent on Mormonism itself. Not too surprising when one considers the sheer idiocy of this belief system.
