POPS Surfer Takes On 41-Foot Monster Wave... And Lives A daredevil surfer is pictured tackling a giant 41 foot wave in a bid to win himself a prestigious award. Kerby Brown took on the monster during a session at a top secret reef, and nearly didn't live to tell the tale. The unbelievable pictures have been entered into the prestigious Oakley Surfing Life Big Wave Awards, which rewards the riders of the biggest waves in Australasian waters.

POPSMegabucks of tax money for Bush admin portraits Rumsfeld's was $46,790. Gutierrez, $35,000. $25K, former NASA admin; $29,500 for EPA head. And yes, Dems have done it, too. How many people's total annual tax payment did it take to pay for Don Rumsfeld's painting?

POPSGlitches fill Ohio voter rolls "Frankly, I'd rather have people in there twice than not at all. It's not a big deal," said Diane Goldsmith, who heads the voter registration department of the Hamilton County Board of Elections. Well, that's scary. I don't care if they're Reps or Dems...I want the vote to be accurate, legal, and ethical. So this is Hamilton County...or just Ohio...ok, multiply this by the already known fraudulent and the potential unknown. I would think that every American would care that this election were fair; if for no other reason, we wouldn't have months of lawyers and court decisions holding up the process of installing a legitimately elected President.

POPSThe Parasitic Leech " No, if you take my line of thinking one step further, if you're not a patriot, what does that make you, besides a parasitic leech? Sorry if I'm running this rant aimed at you, Joe, but you were referred to in the debate because you're a modern archetype for right wing libertarian parasitic leeches-- and everything I'm saying about YOU is true for millions of other parasitic leeches who would let people die rather than support the universal health care that every other first world nation provides."

POPSRemembering Charlie Brown Entertaining and humourous article that pays homage to Charles Schulz's Charlie Brown. My favorite :) Like Groening, I too used to spend hours drawing Peanuts cartoons because they "looked" easy. I loved Snoopy! I wanted a beagle before I knew that they were crazy dogs. I owned a Snoopy snowcone machine - which they re-released and I saw at Urban Outfitters. I had thing for Schroeder. Thanks a million Charles Schulz!

POPSUK Rushes Bailout Plan for Troubled Banks UK moves to nationalize struggling banks. Sounds like a run on a few banks in the UK could strap them for cash. Do they have the equivalent of FDIC, are the people accounts insured by the government? The moves are to provide enough "cash on hand for day to day operations"--i.e. consumer withdrawals: To address the collapse of confidence in money markets, the standby facility should ensure big banks have enough cash to fund day-to-day operations.

POPSFederal sweep targeting illegal immigrants snares 1,150 statewide This reminds me of the failed US war against drugs. Arrest lots of folks at the street level, get on the 6 o'clock news, and leave the big fish profiting from exploiting economic immigrants free to go on fishing for greed driven profits. In the drug war brown and black young men in jail by hordes and money men go their merry way - Shades of the $700 billion bailout!

POPSChurch apologises to Charles Darwin over theory of evolution But Dr Brown says everyone makes mistakes, the church included. "When a big new idea emerges that changes the way people look at the world, it's easy to feel that every old idea, every certainty, is under attack and then to do battle against the new insights,'' he writes.

POPSWar is a Racket Wars are really a continuous stream of coordinated acts of terrorism, related to money and power instigated by the people who will benefit from the war and its expected end result. War is an instrument to expand economic power by destroying the national institutions and intelligent people of the victimized nation.

POPSDenver Police Arresting ABC Producer Overzealous Police in Denver arresting ABC producer, so much for the freedom of the press. If even the Mainstream Media people are arrested, imagine what will happen to the alternative Press People.

POPSABC Reporter Arrested in Denver Taking Pictures Arrested for taking pictures in a public space of public officials. It's just like the spy novels I read as a teen, except now this sort of thing occurs in the US instead of the Soviet Union. Basically the law these days is "Whatever the hell I say it is" if you are a police officer. If this had only been a single isolated incident, I wouldn't be so hot about this issue, but it's happening more and more every day. I read at least 1 article a week about the police abusing their power when it comes to photographers. So now I have to ask myself what I as a citizen should do. I know that patriotically I should never stand for abuse of power, but realistically I can't imagine how to even stand against this level of national fascism.

POPSPennsylvania Gov. Rendell: Obama Coverage Was "Embarrassing" At that point, PBS's Judy Woodruff, who was moderating the moderators event, said: "Why don’t we let Governor Rendell sit down." That was met with applause from the crowd of big-time media figures, which included Arianna Huffington, Gwen Ifill, Al Hunt, and Chuck Todd. Woodruff allowed Brokaw to respond, and in defending the network, he said that Matthews and Keith Olbermann are "not the only voices" on MSNBC.

POPSFreedom and Jeff: Inspiring Story of One Man and His Eagle
She was going to be put down that Friday, and I was supposed to come in on that Thursday afternoon. I didn’t want to go to the center that Thursday, because I couldn’t bear the thoughtof her being euthanized; of her being euthanized; but I went anyway, and when I walked in everyone was grinning from ear to ear. I went immediately back to her cage; and there she was, standing on her own, a big beautiful eagle. She was ready to live. I was just about in tears by then. That was a very good day. We knew she could never fly, so the director asked me to glove train her. I got her used to the glove, and then to jesses, and we started doing education programs for schools in western Washington. We wound up in the newspapers, on radio (believe it or not) and some TV. Miracle Pets even did a show about us. In the spring of 2000, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. I had stage 3, which is not good (one major organ plus everywhere) doing 8 months of chemo.
