An Illustrated Guide to Every Cable You Need
splendidus
by splendidus  8-4-2008
A Comment: "I hear Job's is working on the one cable to replace them all. Supposedly once you plug it into a device, it makes that device infinitely more powerful, then becomes invisible so there's no mess. One cable to rule them all, one cable to find them. One cable to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them."

Pathologists Believe They Have Pinpointed Achilles Heel of HIV
pitim
by pitim  7-16-2008
Sudhir Paul, Ph.D., pathology professor in the UT Medical School, said, “Unlike the changeable regions of its envelope, HIV needs at least one region that must remain constant to attach to cells. If this region changes, HIV cannot infect cells. Equally important, HIV does not want this constant region to provoke the body’s defense system. So, HIV uses the same constant cellular attachment site to silence B lymphocytes - the antibody producing cells. The result is that the body is fooled into making abundant antibodies to the changeable regions of HIV but not to its cellular attachment site. Immunologists call such regions superantigens. HIV’s cleverness is unmatched. No other virus uses this trick to evade the body’s defenses.”

Achilles Heel Of HIV Found?

HIV’s cleverness is unmatched. No other virus uses this trick to evade the body’s defenses.” Paul’s group has engineered antibodies with enzymatic activity, also known as abzymes, which can attack the Achilles heel of the virus in a precise way. “The abzymes recognize essentially all of the diverse HIV forms found across the world. This solves the problem of HIV changeability. The next step is to confirm our theory in huma

Translation of stone tablet that reveals "three days" motif
willhelm
by willhelm  7-14-2008    2
There is another reference to this -3 days- that is in the Old Testament book of Hosea. Refer to Hosea 6:1-2 Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us: he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds. After 2 days he will revive us; on the third day he will restore us, that we may live in his presence.

When Human Rights Extend to Nonhumans
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  7-13-2008    5
The 300 apes in Spanish zoos would not be freed, but better conditions would be mandated. Meanwhile, even in democracies, the law accords diminished rights to many humans: children, prisoners, the insane, the senile. Teenagers may not vote, philosophers who slip into dementia may be lashed to their beds, courts can order surgery or force-feeding. Spain’s Catholic bishops attacked the vote as undermining a divine will that placed humans above animals. One said such thinking led to abortion, euthanasia and ethnic cleansing.

The 'Idle' Oil Field Fallacy
merrie
by merrie  7-10-2008
or that there is not enough to justify the tremendous investment required to bring it to the surface – the company cuts its losses by moving on to more promising leases. Yet it continues to pay rent on the lease, atop a leasing bonus fee. Our companies have made tremendous strides in developing cutting-edge exploration technology. But they are not magicians. They cannot produce oil or natural gas where it does not exist. In reality, a lease is simply a block on a map, with no guarantee that it contains any resources. If all of them did, one could simply pay for the lease, haul in equipment and start pumping oil. But that only happens in fiction. Today's short-term need was yesterday's long-term opportunity. If Congress had acted on that opportunity years ago, America would not be in the energy bind it finds itself in today. Working with industry, Congress now has the opportunity to help secure America's energy future. It should not miss the chance again.

The Redacting Of Thomas Jefferson
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  7-10-2008    1
This is just a "tip of the iceberg" of the redacting and revising of documents and facts the Bush Neocon Administration have been busily churning out for the past 7-plus years. Will we ever see the WHOLE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH again? I am hopeful we will if Obama is elected, but I will say a jubilant Good Riddance to them all, come January 2009, no matter who is elected! thinkingblue.blogspot.com
