POPSThe World's Greatest Aviation Innovations 9. The flying wing -- Yves Rossy keeps breaking records and defying expectations with his 8-foot-diameter, carbon composite flying wing. Last week he made a successful 13 minute, 125 mph trip across the English Channel. 10. Stealth aircraft -- What's cooler than a plane that can outsmart radar? Because the surfaces of a stealth are designed to absorb radio waves or reflect them away from the receiver, stealth planes can sneak in and sneak out undetected. Too bad they're so expensive: The 21 plane B-2 program cost over $45 billion. 11. Jetway -- Another one most of us don't think about is the long covered walkway the connects our departure gate with our plane. 12. Deicing -- Ice buildup is the cause of many fatal aircraft accidents, which is why applying monopropylene de-icing fluid to wings pre-flight has become standard operating procedure.

POPS ACORN's Radical Anti-Capitalism Agenda ......millions of low-income residents of cities pay excessively high prices for consumer goods in part because of a lack of competition. The report noted that in Chicago "higher priced, small grocery stores" are concentrated in the city's poorer neighborhoods—exactly the kind of place where big-box stores now want to open. Far from rejecting these stores, inner-city residents have embraced them. Thousands of local residents showed up to apply for jobs when Wal-Mart announced it was opening a new store in an abandoned former Macy's outlet in the Baldwin Hills section of Los Angeles. After the store opened in 2003, sales soared at the mall were the Wal-Mart was located and other national retailers moved into the predominantly black neighborhood, vastly improving the range of products offered to residents.

POPS10 Books That Screwed Up The World I agree with most of this list, the rest I have no opinion because I haven't read the books. My curiosity has been piqued enough to read them and found out. Read the article to learn beyond the summaries why these books (and by extension, their authors) are considered to be so harmful.

POPSPioneering Physicist John Wheeler Dies at 96 a real genius, if i am not mistaken he was Hugh Everett III's professor of physics, also he is the one the suggested the 'delayed choice' experiment that showed the experimenter can choose, AFTER THE FACT, whether the photon was in both places or just one.

POPS20 things that culturally define Australia Mateship Mateship is different from friendship. It means more than that. In Australia mateship is not just the expression of being one's friend, but being loyal to one's friend. You stick by your mates, no matter what. If they are in a bit of strife or under fire with criticism, you stick up for them. If your mate needs a helping hand, you give them that helping hand, and then enjoy a beer with 'em afterwards. Aboriginal Flag Designed by Harold Thomas in 1971, the Aboriginal Flag represents Aboriginal Australians as a symbol of their rich culture and history. The black represents the people on the land, and the dark skies of night. The red represents the land, and the ochre used in Aboriginal Art - and also the blood of Aboriginal Australians during fighting with early white settlers. The yellow circle represents the sun; the renewer of life. (much more at the source)

POPSDoctor Who regenerates fan base is perhaps far geekier I've been called many things in my life but never a geek. I guess I'm in good company. I really love this show. The first Doctor Who episode was postponed because it had been scheduled to air on the day JFK was murdered. They were in black and white. I started watching when they came to the US. My son was watching it on a Sat. AM and I got so interested, I was hooked. It was the 4th doctor and although I can't recall the name of the episode, it was about a Sontarian. (probably spelled wrong). Maybe "The Sontarian Experiment"? He was testing humans for weaknesses.
