Search for Extra Dimensions in the Universe
cakebelly
by cakebelly  11-10-2008    2
continues: For example, black holes created at the LHC would be expected to start off spinning. The spinning of the black hole increases the fraction of the black hole's mass that is dissipated as gravitons–elementary quanta of gravity, which could be used to provide a clue to the existence and structure of extra dimensions. Black holes are being studied with BlackMax by members of the ATLAS Experiment at LHC, one of the two principal large particle detectors at the new collider. Case Western Reserve physicists working with Glenn Starkman on the project are his former doctoral student Dejan Stojkovic, now a visiting professor on the faculty of the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, and De-Chang Dai, who recently graduated with his doctoral degree in physics, and is now a postdoctoral fellow working with Stojkovic. Other collaborators are experimental physicists Cigdem Issever and Jeff Tseng of Oxford University and Eram Rizvi from Queen Mary College at the University of

Pakistanis Protest Obama's Position on bin Laden
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  11-3-2008
There is definitely a problem here: the Yanks are coming. After 8 stupid, irresponsible years and wrong-headed, misguided, corrupt and false reasons, Bush will be out of power. His term of office has been like watching someone fall off a roof. His failure to kill or capture bin Laden is one of the worst failures in all our USA history -- and using deliberately fabricated lies to get us into a black hole in Iraq the second worse failure in USA history. Once he's gone all this crud will be wiped away, erased, throw into the rubbish. The new president - with just one ounce of brain-power will right away realize: 'Oh, the criminals of 9/11 still run free and the whole nation want to kill them (or capture them). Even red, red-necks should realize this gross failure, and stop defending Republican incompetence. Now it's is believed bin Laden is in Pakistan. Sorry about that Pakistan. Turn him over or we're going in to get him ourselves. The Yanks ARE coming. Resist

Pentagon Wants $450 Billion Increase in Spending
blueridge
by blueridge  10-14-2008    2
...realizing that Obama might come in with a knife. Note the quote from Rabbi Dov Zakheim (neoconservative and PNAC member) on who's watch billions were lost and "unaccounted for" , in the Pentagon's black book-keeping. (On Sept. 11th the side of the Pentagon destroyed included the accountants and records of the Pentagon Budget Office!) Talk about Wall Street fraud, here is another black hole. Zakheim should be brought up on fraud charges. No comptroller of any corporation would get away with the kind of loss and unaccounted for spending (e.g. Enron). There is no accountability in government, especially the Pentagon. Everything is just fine is the message we get when outrageous abuses take place with taxppayers' money.

Pentagon's Secret Budget Numbers
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  10-11-2008    2
Do you hear that strange sucking sound? That's the US taxpayer dollars being sucked into the voracious black hole of the Military Industrial Complex. This secret budget is ON TOP of the announced 600+ billion dollars already allocated. That is a hell of a lot of money! Bombs or food? Not my choice to make, but are more bombs really what America needs? Really?

McCain Claims Obama Dishonorable & Dangerous
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  10-7-2008
This site has been put up by the Obama campaign: http://www.keatingeconomics.com/ This site, above, tells the truth and gives facts about the last banking scandal -- in which John McCain was involved. The guy at the center of the scandal went to jail. McCain got officially censored by the Senate. It's the Republicans who have PROVED themselves dishonorable and dangerous -- who led us into the black stupid hole of Iraq War -- who destroyed our economy. We can't let these warmongers and liars continue to rule our country. We need to Defeat Republicans! Now. Later start the war crime trials and trials for shredding the Constitution and deliberately leading a nation into war based on lies, torture against the Geneva convention, etc. These vampires and blood suckers will not die till we drive a firm stake into their hearts. Every word out of their mouths is false and dangerous. Vote Obama.

Bailout Creating a Financial Black Hole
katsteevns
by katsteevns  10-5-2008
(cont.)The latest propaganda from the government and the Illuminist think tanks tells us that, treasuries are more secure than gold because they are backed by the US government and gold has a counter party risk by whoever is storing your gold as the counter party. I’ve never heard any stupider comments. The Fed has informed Bank of America to be ready for a one-week universal shutdown of the banking system, including access to checking accounts, savings accounts and credit cards. This is why you need $5,000 in small bills in your safe at home and small denomination gold and silver coins.

The big bounce vs Big Bang
pokkets
by pokkets  10-4-2008    1
Edwin Hubble and Stephen Hawking, and the discovery of Cosmic background radiation amongst other contributers drafted the Big Bang Theory, but Each knew it was a theory, and destined to be qualified significantly as our our technology and depth of understanding progresses. Big bang is a Theory, not a conclusion. Ask Stephen Hawking to consider any new theories, and evidence, and he would be delighted to consider the evidence. He's a scientist, and a Mathematician, who knows how limited our theories can be with what we know. He is looking for what happened, not what may have happened,.

Forget black holes, could the LHC trigger a “Bose supernova”?
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  10-4-2008    3
Nobody is exactly sure how these explosions proceed which is a tad worrying for the following reason: some clever clogs has pointed out that superfluid helium is a BEC and that the LHC is swimming in 700,000 litres of the stuff. Not only that but the entire thing is bathed in some of the most powerful magnetic fields on the planet. If not for anything else, the LHC has become a modern doom spelling myth. The universe is about to punish us for prying on its privacy... These modern myths are truly fascinating. After Bose Nova? Bose Supernova! :-)

Large Hadron Collider Stalled till Spring '09
Andy Greenberg
by Andy Greenberg  9-24-2008
This must be frustrating for physicists who have waited decades to smash particles together in exciting new ways. But those of us with (scientifically debunked) fears of being swallowed by an LHC-triggered black hole can breathe a sigh of relief. For now.

What Happens if You Fall Into a Black Hole?
Deepti
by Deepti  9-16-2008    3
If you fell into a large enough black hole, your last moments would be a little bit like being on the inside of a distorted, one-way mirror. No one outside would be able to see you, but you'd have a view of them. Meanwhile, the gravitational pull would bend the light weirdly and distort your last moments of vision
