POPSSelf-Portraits in Oil - BB art series
"According to my theory, all our basic sexual instincts except their straightforward manifestations are the instrument in the hands of an artist. In this series I’m taking the basic instrument – my body and inspired by great artists use their techniques, my experience and plunge into the intercourse to unite and be one. I’m overwhelmed by desire to not primitively mimic the technique, but plunge inside, learn what was driving the genius, what inspired him. Before starting each work I studied in detail the work of the artist. It’s a kind of a present to my favourite artists. All the materials or textures used in the compilations were painted by me in oil. All works are self-portraits." ...Katerina Tumanova (Belkina) Country: Odincovo, Russian Federation Title: Paint Russian digital artist, painter and photographer, born in Samara. POPSTop 10 Crimes Against Your Body
When I opened this article, I thought it was going to be one of those same ole, same ole's, about smoking, drinking, overeating and unsafe sex, all the nasty, enjoyable habits we've grown to love. I was surprised to see it was about the rush to improve one's appearance by seeking out deadly cosmetic surgeries of sort. This is another one of those by-products from the advertisement industry who use "beautiful people" to sell the crap we buy... Subconscious messages are planted during these many ads, shoved in our faces, via magazines, newspapers, TV and any media we may tap into, to get entertained or informed. These ads, on a subconscious level make us feel ugly and useless because we don't resemble the actors or models who seem to enjoy their lives so much better than we. So what does one do to join the "beautiful people" crowd? They go under the knife! A big collective OUCH! http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/05/06/top-10-crimes-against-your-body.aspx

POPSPain as an art form Mr. Collen wrote to pain doctors around the world to solicit examples of art from pain patients. Working with San Francisco college student James Gregory, 21, who suffers from chronic pain as the result of a car accident, the two created the Pain Exhibit, an online gallery of art from pain sufferers. The images are evocative and troubling.“Some of them are painful even to look at,'’ Dr. Basbaum said. Finding ways to communicate pain is essential to patients who are suffering, many of whom don’t receive adequate treatment from doctors.Mr. Collen said the main goal of the exhibit is to raise awareness about the problem of chronic pain.“People don’t believe what they can’t see,'’ Mr. Collen said. “But they see a piece of art an individual created about their pain and everything changes.'’

POPSSaint Orlan: ultimate body art "If lipstick is an impression only for the Object, do feminists dream of the withering away of that second skin of make-up? But if it also carries a woman's potential for impressing/painting on the Object, the lover's lips or collar, what then?
