Post about the "100 Mile Diet". I haven't read the book, but I do believe that we should eat local foods whenever possible. Not only does it save on fuels used in shipping - it tastes better, had more nourishment because it is fresher, and keeps us living in sync with the seasons.

The first time I ever rode on a plane, my dad bought me "Brain Droppings" I must have been twelve and that book was way too inappropriate for me. I fell in love with it after the first page. George Carlin helped me to think for myself and taught me how to swear. I haven't stopped either of those things since. George Carlin. May 12, 1937 – June 22, 2008

Christian Child Abuse caught on tape
Oortcloud
by Oortcloud  6-14-2008    33
Listen to this audio of a 9 year old girl being mentally abused. She is being forced to accept that Harry Potter put the devil in her. This is child abuse. People like this needs to be locked up, but because of a taboo we allow on discussing religion people like this are allowed to continue, often encouraged. Pardon me while I go throw up now

Orthodox Jewish youths burn New Testaments. What next?
righthand
by righthand  5-23-2008    5
Wonder how this went down with the Christian Zionist fundamentalists? Are they in rapture over the burning of the new testaments? So your welcome to boast the Zionist economy but don't bring your bible. So now we have the torture, the concentration camps, the assassinations, the ethnic cleansing, the Gaza prison, the slow starvation, the economic strangulation, the racism, the Arab holocaust to match the Nakba of 60 years ago, and on and on. And all with America's blessing. What next? Burning the Christians?

Flames of Hate

I never was a racist in SA - but one cannot suppress the feeling of horror, disgust, contempt, and feelings close to hated towards the ppl responsible for the attrocities shown in this slideshow. What is this world coming to?! - our planet is being destroyed, precious animals becoming extinct, murder, rape, crime , drugs, proverty, hunger, human trafficking, the most horrific natural disasters to mention just a few are the order of the day. Yet ppl still deny the existance of God and what was prophesied in the the book of Revelations in the Bible - surely we are living in those end times.

Got this from alternative news source. If any groups of the lowly Gentiles got together and burned Talmuds, I promise you, it would be on the front page of each and every Western rag and charges of "anti-semitism" would be tossed all over the place. But god's privileged people get away with ANY and EVERYTHING.

Censoring Iraq Michael Yon
merrie
by merrie  5-9-2008
went to Iraq initially at the behest of military friends who insisted that what Americans were seeing on the news wasn't an accurate reflection of the reality on the ground. Two of my friends died on consecutive days. When the charred remains of American contractors were strung from a bridge in Falluja, I put aside a book I was writing to attend the funerals. In Colorado we laid to rest a Special Forces friend who'd been killed in Samara; then on to Florida for the funeral of the friend who'd been murdered and mutilated in Falluja. A photo of the dang ling corpses won a Pulitzer. I purchased and borrowed the equipment required for the journey. Camera, satellite phone, laptop, body armor, helmet, and so on. Like most of the people who would later be called "alternative media," I bore these expenses myself, including the flights to Kuwait.

Moses Was High on Drugs, Israeli Researcher Says
papananook
by papananook  3-5-2008    19
The description in The Book of Exodus of thunder, lightening and a blaring trumpet, according to Shanon, are the classic imaginings of people under the influence of drugs. As for the vision of the burning bush, well obviously that too was a drug-fueled hallucination, according to Shanon. "In advanced forms of ayahuasca inebriation," he wrote, "the seeing of light is accompanied by profound religious and spiritual feelings." Shanon admits he took some of these drugs while in the Amazon in 1991. "I experienced visions that had spiritual-religious connotations," he said. The initial reaction to this controversial theory from Israel's religiously orthodox community and the powerful rabbis who lead it was less than enthusiastic. Orthodox rabbi Yuval Sherlow, quoted by Reuters speaking on Israel radio, said: "The Bible is trying to convey a very profound event. We have to fear not for the fate of the biblical Moses, but for the fate of science."

GOP Senator Chafee: New Book is tough on Pro-War Democrats, Bush, and Republicans
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  2-2-2008
More: The most startling revelation: Chafee must be the only senator in U.S. political history who says his defeat was the result of voters acting logically. “The system works best when power remains in the hands of the voters,” writes Chafee. “I was a casualty of the system working in 2006, and while defeat is never easy, I give the voters credit: They made the connection between electing even popular Republicans at the cost of leaving the Senate in the hands of a leadership they had learned to mistrust.” “I find it surprising now, in 2008, how many Democrats are running for president after shirking their constitutional duty to check and balance this president,” writes Chafee. “They argue that the president duped them into war, but getting duped does not exactly recommend their leadership. Helping a rogue president start an unnecessary war should be a career-ending lapse of judgment.”

Lincoln, the Hypocrite and Thanksgiving--Religious Propaganda to Cover War Crimes
blueridge
by blueridge  11-22-2007
History as taught is a fabrication to indoctrinate into an artificial unity. Lincoln was no more a Christian than was Thomas Paine, the Deist who wrote against the Bible. The real motive behind Lincoln's hypocritical declaration of Thanksgiving (advised by Seward, who was Lincoln's Karl Rove) was, per the above, because "it pleases the fools"--i.e. it was religious propaganda in order to cover up the unlawful, anti-constitutional invasion of the Southern States, the burning of their cities, the rape and pillage of Sherman's army by calling for Thanksgiving. (The parallels between invasion of Iraq and invasion of the South are striking). Lincoln was distrusted by not only the South but many in the North. Christians saw him as a Deist not a Christian as his own words demonstrate. Lincoln, like most of the Presidents, was not a Christian and used religion like a hypocrite for political purposes, not unlike GWB.

Respect All Religions-Learn To Create Your Own
DouglasDirk
by DouglasDirk  11-18-2007
I believe in the aspect of respecting all people's religions and faiths. I do not believe one religion has the right to intrude on others faiths or beliefs. We are all here as one people and while here we are trying to commune with our god, goddess, gods, saints, etc. Respect for others beliefs is a way of respecting your own beliefs or non-beliefs. Again, I cannot emphasize enough that we should all celebrate diversity! I integrate smudging and the burning of incense when I pray. I also find reverence in nature and the Shamanic views. I am a Christian but do not believe we have to adhere to traditions. When you pray, it is a deeply personal thing and objects and images that mean a lot to you should be integrated into the ritual/time of prayer. This makes more sense than repeating words or phrases that are not meaningful to you. I believe my God wants me to use my own mind when worshiping and at prayer.

Germany 1935? Middle Ages? Fahrenheit 451? - Take Your Pick
Jorjor
by Jorjor  11-7-2007    3
The article goes on to say, "Sadler said people should bring anything that represents Satan in their lives to the burning - it doesn't have to be book. "'Harry Potter' books, Goosebumps books, Ouija boards, etc..." Sadler said. He said the world needs to go back to the values that this nation was founded on, "biblical values". "This is a call to definition between what is good and evil; God and Satan," Sadler said. What's really dismaying about this newspaper item is that the heading gives the time and place as if this were a social event or a bake sale. "If my own father were a heretic, I would personally gather the wood to burn him" -- Pope Paul IV
